1 Han sade till mig: "Människo­barn, ät vad du ser framför dig! Ät upp bokrullen och gå och tala till Israels hus." 2 Jag öppnade min mun, och han gav mig rullen att äta. 3 *Ps 19:11, Jer 15:16. Han sade till mig: "Människobarn, mätta din mage och fyll din buk med rullen som jag ger dig." Jag åt, och den var söt som honung i min mun.

4 Han sade till mig: "Människobarn, gå till Israels hus och tala mina ord till dem. 5 *Jes 33:19, Matt 10:5f. Du blir inte sänd till ett folk med främmande språk och obegripligt tal, utan till Israels hus, 6 inte till många folk med främmande språk och obegripligt tal som du inte förstår. Hade jag sänt dig till sådana skulle de lyssna på dig.

7 *Hes 2:4. Men Israels hus vill inte lyssna på dig, för de vill inte lyssna på mig. Hela Israels hus har hårda pannor och förhärdade hjärtan. 8 *Jer 1:18, 15:20, Mika 3:8. Se, jag gör ditt ansikte hårt som deras ansikten och din panna hård som deras pannor. 9 *Jer 1:8, Hes 2:5f. Jag gör din panna hård som diamant, hårdare än flinta. Var inte rädd för dem och tappa inte modet inför dem, för de är ett upproriskt släkte."

10 Och han sade till mig: "Männi­skobarn, allt som jag talar till dig ska du ta till ditt hjärta och höra med dina öron. 11 Gå till dina landsmän i fångenskapen och säg till dem: Så säger Herren Gud – vare sig de lyssnar eller inte."

12 *Jes 6:3, Apg 2:2. Anden lyfte upp mig, och jag hörde bakom mig ljudet av ett väldigt dån: "Lovad är Herrens härlighet i hans boning!" 13 Jag hörde ljudet av varelsernas vingar som rörde sig mot varandra och dessutom ljudet från hjulen, ett väldigt dån. 14 *Hes 8:3, Apg 8:39. Anden*3:14AndenHebr. rúach betyder också "vind" (jfr Joh 3:8). lyfte upp mig och tog tag i mig, och jag fördes bort, bedrövad och upprörd i min ande, och Herrens hand var stark över mig. 15 *Job 2:13, Hes 1:3, Dan 7:28, 8:27. Jag kom till dem som förts bort till Tel-Abib*3:15Tel-AbibAkkadiska til abubi betyder "ruinhög efter översvämning", möjligen ett projekt för fångarna att återuppbygga. Inte identiskt med moderna Tel Aviv ("vårkullen") vid ­Medelhavet., de som bodde vid floden Kebar. Jag slog mig ner där de satt och stannade där bland dem i sju dagar, djupt bedrövad.

16 Men efter sju dagar kom Herrens ord till mig:

17 *Jer 1:7, 6:17, Hes 33:7f. "Människo­barn, jag har satt dig till väktare för Israels hus. När du hör ett ord från min mun ska du varna dem från mig. 18 När jag säger till den ogudaktige: Du ska dö, och du inte varnar honom och inte säger något för att varna den ogudaktige för hans ogudaktiga väg och så rädda hans liv, då ska den ogudaktige dö i sin missgärning, men jag ska utkräva hans blod av din hand. 19 Men om du varnar den ogudaktige och han ändå inte vänder om från sin ogudaktighet eller sin ogudaktiga väg, då ska han dö i sin missgärning, men du har räddat din själ.

20 *Hes 18:24, 33:12f. Och när en rättfärdig man vänder om från sin rättfärdighet och gör det som är orätt, då ska jag lägga en stötesten i hans väg och han ska dö. Om du då inte har varnat honom ska han dö i sin synd. Man ska inte komma ihåg de rättfärdiga gärningar han tidigare har gjort, utan jag ska utkräva hans blod av din hand. 21 Men om du varnar den rättfärdige för att synda och han avhåller sig från synd, då ska han få leva eftersom han lät varna sig, och själv har du räddat ditt liv."

22 *Hes 8:1, Apg 9:6, 22:10.Herrens hand kom över mig där, och han sade till mig: "Stig upp och gå ut på slätten. Där ska jag tala med dig." 23 *Hes 1:3, 8:4. Då steg jag upp och gick ut på slätten, och se, där stod Herrens härlighet, lik den härlighet jag såg vid floden Kebar. Och jag föll ner på mitt ansikte. 24 *Hes 2:2. Anden kom då in i mig och reste upp mig på mina fötter. Herren talade med mig och sade: "Gå och stäng in dig i ditt hus. 25 *Hes 4:8. Och du människobarn, se, man ska lägga rep om dig och binda dig med dem så att du inte kan gå ut bland de andra. 26 *Hes 2:5, 24:27. Jag ska låta din tunga fastna vid din gom så att du blir stum och inte kan straffa dem, för de är ett upproriskt släkte. 27 *Hes 2:4f, 29:21, 33:22. Men när jag talar med dig ska jag öppna din mun, och du ska säga till dem: Så säger Herren Gud. Den som vill lyssna ska lyssna, och den som inte vill får låta bli, för de är ett upproriskt folk."

4 And he said unto me, Son of man, go, get thee unto the house of Israel, and speak with my words unto them. 5 For thou art not sent to a people of a strange speech and of an hard language, but to the house of Israel;*3.5 of a…: Heb. deep of lip, and heavy of tongue 6 Not to many people of a strange speech and of an hard language, whose words thou canst not understand. Surely, had I sent thee to them, they would have hearkened unto thee.*3.6 of a…: Heb. deep of lip, and heavy of language*3.6 Surely…: or, If I had sent thee, etc. would they not have hearkened unto thee? 7 But the house of Israel will not hearken unto thee; for they will not hearken unto me: for all the house of Israel are impudent and hardhearted.*3.7 impudent…: Heb. stiff of forehead, and hard of heart 8 Behold, I have made thy face strong against their faces, and thy forehead strong against their foreheads. 9 As an adamant harder than flint have I made thy forehead: fear them not, neither be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house. 10 Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, all my words that I shall speak unto thee receive in thine heart, and hear with thine ears. 11 And go, get thee to them of the captivity, unto the children of thy people, and speak unto them, and tell them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear. 12 Then the spirit took me up, and I heard behind me a voice of a great rushing, saying, Blessed be the glory of the LORD from his place. 13 I heard also the noise of the wings of the living creatures that touched one another, and the noise of the wheels over against them, and a noise of a great rushing.*3.13 touched: Heb. kissed 14 So the spirit lifted me up, and took me away, and I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit; but the hand of the LORD was strong upon me.*3.14 in bitterness: Heb. bitter*3.14 heat: Heb. hot anger

15 Then I came to them of the captivity at Tel-abib, that dwelt by the river of Chebar, and I sat where they sat, and remained there astonished among them seven days.

16 And it came to pass at the end of seven days, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 17 Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me. 18 When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. 19 Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul. 20 Again, When a righteous man doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand.*3.20 righteousness which: Heb. righteousnesses 21 Nevertheless if thou warn the righteous man, that the righteous sin not, and he doth not sin, he shall surely live, because he is warned; also thou hast delivered thy soul.

22 And the hand of the LORD was there upon me; and he said unto me, Arise, go forth into the plain, and I will there talk with thee. 23 Then I arose, and went forth into the plain: and, behold, the glory of the LORD stood there, as the glory which I saw by the river of Chebar: and I fell on my face. 24 Then the spirit entered into me, and set me upon my feet, and spake with me, and said unto me, Go, shut thyself within thine house. 25 But thou, O son of man, behold, they shall put bands upon thee, and shall bind thee with them, and thou shalt not go out among them: 26 And I will make thy tongue cleave to the roof of thy mouth, that thou shalt be dumb, and shalt not be to them a reprover: for they are a rebellious house.*3.26 a reprover: Heb. a man reproving 27 But when I speak with thee, I will open thy mouth, and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; He that heareth, let him hear; and he that forbeareth, let him forbear: for they are a rebellious house.
