A vaidade dos bens terrestres

Ao cantor-mor. Salmo dos filhos de Corá

1 *Sl 78.1;Is 1.2;Mq 1.2Ouvi isto, todos os povos;

dai ouvidos, todos os *Sl 33.8habitantes do mundo,

2 tanto *Sl 62.9plebeus como de alta estirpe,

juntamente os ricos e os pobres.

3 A minha boca *Sl 37.30falará sabedoria;

*Sl 119.130de entendimento será a meditação do meu coração.

4 Inclinarei o meu ouvido a *Sl 78.2uma parábola;

ao som da harpa, declararei *Nm 12.8o meu enigma.

5 Por que hei de eu *Sl 23.4;27.1temer nos dias de adversidade,

quando me cercar a iniquidade dos que me perseguem,

6 dos que *Sl 52.7;Jó 31.24;Pv 11.28;Mc 10.24confiam na sua fazenda

e se gloriam na multidão das suas riquezas?

7 Nenhum deles pode de maneira alguma *Mt 25.8-9remir a seu irmão,

nem por ele dar um *Jó 36.18-19resgate a Deus

8 (Pois custa demais a remissão da vida deles,

e esta tentativa tem de ser abandonada para sempre.),

9 para que *Sl 22.29continuasse a viver perpetuamente

e para que *Sl 16.10;89.48não visse a cova.

10 Pois vê-se que *Ec 2.16os sábios morrem;

*Sl 92.6;94.8o estulto e o estúpido juntos perecem

*Sl 39.6;Ec 2.18,21;Lc 12.20e deixam a outros a sua fazenda.

11 *Sl 64.6O seu pensamento íntimo é que as suas *Sl 10.6casas permanecerão para sempre,

e as suas moradas, para todas as gerações.

12 *Sl 49.20O homem, porém, não permanece em dignidade;

antes, é semelhante aos animais que perecem.

a morte os pastoreia.

16 Não temas, *Sl 37.7quando alguém se enriquecer,

quando for aumentada a glória da sua casa,

17 porque, quando morrer, *Sl 17.14;1Tm 6.7não levará coisa alguma;

a sua glória não descerá após ele.

18 Ainda que ele, enquanto vivo, *Sl 10.3,6;Dt 29.19;Lc 12.19abençoou a sua alma

(Os homens te louvam, enquanto fazes o bem a ti mesmo.),

19 *Gn 15.15irá ter com a geração de seus pais,

os quais não verão mais *Sl 56.13;Jó 33.30a luz.

20 *Sl 49.12O homem, revestido de dignidade, mas sem entendimento,

é semelhante aos animais que perecem.

1 Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world:*49.1 for: or, of

3 My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.

4 I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.

5 Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?

6 They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;

7 None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:

8 (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)

9 That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption.

10 For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.

11 Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.*49.11 all…: Heb. generation and generation

12 Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.
