1 Eu sou a verdadeira videira, e meu Pai é o viticultor.2 Toda a vara em mim que não dá fruto, ele a corta; e toda a vara que dá fruto, ele a limpa, para que o dê mais abundante.3 Vós já estais limpos pela palavra que vos tenho falado;4 permanecei em mim, e eu permanecerei em vós. Como a vara não pode dar fruto de si mesma, se não permanecer na videira; assim nem vós o podeis dar, se não permanecerdes em mim.5 Eu sou a videira; vós sois as varas. Aquele que permanece em mim, e no qual eu permaneço, dá muito fruto, pois sem mim nada podeis fazer.6 Se alguém não permanecer em mim, é lançado fora como a vara, e seca-se; semelhantes varas são ajuntadas, lançadas no fogo, e elas ardem.7 Se permanecerdes em mim, e as minhas palavras permanecerem em vós, pedi o que quiserdes, e ser-vos-á feito.8 Nisto é glorificado meu Pai, em que deis muito fruto; e assim vos tornareis meus discípulos.9 Como o Pai me amou, assim também eu vos amei; permanecei no meu amor.10 Se guardardes os meus mandamentos, permanecereis no meu amor; assim como eu tenho guardado os mandamentos de meu Pai, e permaneço no seu amor.11 Eu vos tenho dito estas coisas, a fim de que o meu gozo esteja em vós, e o vosso gozo seja completo.12 Este é o meu mandamento, que vos ameis uns aos outros como eu vos amei.13 Ninguém tem maior amor do que este, de dar alguém a sua vida pelos seus amigos.14 Vós sois meus amigos, se fizerdes o que vos mando.15 Já não vos chamo servos, porque o servo não sabe o que faz seu senhor; mas tenho-vos chamado amigos, porque vos revelei tudo quanto ouvi de meu Pai.16 Vós não me escolhestes a mim, mas eu vos escolhi a vós, e vos designei para que vades e deis fruto, e o vosso fruto permaneça; a fim de que tudo quanto pedirdes ao Pai em meu nome, ele vo-lo conceda.17 Isto vos mando, que vos ameis uns aos outros.18 Se o mundo vos aborrece, sabei que primeiro do que a vós me tem aborrecido a mim.19 Se vós fôsseis do mundo, o mundo amaria o que era seu; mas como não sois do mundo, antes vos escolhi eu do mundo, por isso é que o mundo vos aborrece.20 Lembrai-vos das palavras que eu vos disse: O servo não é maior do que seu senhor. Se me perseguiram a mim, também vos hão de perseguir a vós; se guardaram as minhas palavras, também hão de guardar as vossas.21 Mas todas estas coisas vos farão por causa do meu nome, porque não conhecem aquele que me enviou.22 Se eu não viera e não lhes falara, não teriam eles cometido pecado; agora, porém, não têm desculpa do seu pecado.23 Aquele que me aborrece, aborrece também a meu Pai.24 Se eu não tivesse feito entre eles tais obras, quais nenhum outro fez, não teriam cometido pecado; mas agora não somente têm eles visto, mas também aborrecido tanto a mim como a meu Pai.25 Mas isto é para que se cumpra a palavra que está escrita na sua Lei: Eles me aborreceram sem motivo.26 Quando, porém, vier o Paráclito, que eu vos enviarei da parte do Pai, o Espírito da verdade, que procede do Pai, esse dará testemunho de mim;27 e vós também dareis testemunho, porque estais comigo desde o princípio.

1 »I am the true vine, and my Father is the cultivator.2 »He takes away the branches in me that do not bear fruit. He cleans every branch that bears fruit. That way it may bear more fruit.3 »You are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you.4 »Remain with me, and I with you. The branch cannot bear fruit by itself. It must remain on the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain with me.5 »I am the vine and you are the branches. He that remains with me, and I with him, the same bears much fruit. You can do nothing apart from me.6 »If a man does not remain with me, he is removed as a branch, and withers. They gather them and throw them into the fire where they are burned destroyedconsumed.7 »If you remain with me, and my words remain with you, ask whatever you will, and it will be done for you.8 »My Father is glorified when you bear much fruit. You will be my disciples.9 »I love you just as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love.10 »If you obey my commandments you will remain in my love. I have obeyed my Father’s commandments and remain in his love.11 »I spoke these things in order that my joy may continue with you and your joy may be made full.12 »This is my commandment, that you love one another, even as I have loved you.13 »No man has greater love then this that a man lay down his life for his friends.14 »You are my friends if you do the things that I command you.15 »I no longer call you servants for the servant does not know what the lord does. I have called you friends; for all things that I heard from my Father, I have made known to you.16 »You did not choose me. I chose you and appointed you. You should go and bear fruit and your fruit should remain. Whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.17 »These things I command you, that you may love one another.18 »If the world hates you, you know that it has hated me before it hated you.19 »If you were of the world, the world would love its own. I chose you out of the world. The world hates you because you are not of the world.20 »Remember the word I said to you. A servant is not greater than his master. If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they obeyed my word, they will obey yours also.21 »They will do all these things to you for my name’s sake. It is because they do not know the one that sent me.22 »If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin. Now they have no excuse for their sin!23 »He who hates me hates my Father also.24 »If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would have no sin. They have seen and hated both my Father and me.25 »This took place that the word written in the Law may be fulfilled: They hated me without a cause.26 »I will send the helper from the Father, the Spirit of truth, which proceeds from the Father to bear witness of me.27 »You also bear witness because you have been with me from the beginning.«
