1 Pela segunda vez veio a palavra de Jeová a Jeremias, quando estava ainda encarcerado no pátio da guarda, dizendo:2 Assim diz Jeová que faz estas coisas, Jeová que as forma, para as estabelecer; Jeová é o seu nome.3 Clama a mim, e responder-te-ei; anunciar-te-ei coisas grandes e difíceis, que não sabes.4 Pois assim diz Jeová, Deus de Israel, acerca das casas desta cidade, e acerca das casas dos reis de Judá, que foram demolidas para com elas fazer uma defesa contra as trincheiras e contra a espada.5 Essas casas vêm a pelejar contra os caldeus, mas é para se encherem dos cadáveres dos homens que feri na minha ira e no meu furor; é por causa de toda a maldade deles que eu escondi desta cidade o meu rosto.6 Eis que lhe trarei a ela saúde e cura, e os sararei, e lhes revelarei a abundância de paz e de verdade.7 Farei voltar o cativeiro de Judá e o cativeiro de Israel, e os edificarei como no princípio.8 Purificá-los-ei de toda a sua iniqüidade, em que pecaram contra mim; e lhes perdoarei todas as suas iniqüidades, com que pecaram contra mim, e com que transgrediram contra mim.9 Esta cidade me servirá de nome, de gozo, de louvor e de glória, diante de todas as nações da terra, que ouvirem todo o bem que eu lhes estou fazendo, e que temerem e tremerem por causa de todo o bem e por causa de toda a paz que eu lhes estou proporcionando.10 Assim diz Jeová: Neste lugar do qual vós dizeis: Ermo é, sem homem nem animal, sim, nas cidades de Judá, e nas ruas de Jerusalém, que são ermas, sem homem, sem habitante, e sem animal, ainda se ouvirá11 a voz de gozo e a voz de alegria, a voz de noivo e a voz de noiva, a voz dos que dizem: Dai graças a Jeová dos exércitos, porque Jeová é bom, porque a sua misericórdia dura para sempre; e também se ouvirá a voz dos que trazem à casa de Jeová sacrifícios de ação de graças. Pois farei voltar o cativeiro da terra como no princípio, diz Jeová.12 Assim diz Jeová dos exércitos: Neste lugar que está ermo sem homem nem animal, e em todas as suas cidades, ainda haverá uma habitação de pastores que façam repousar aos seus rebanhos.13 Nas cidades da região montanhosa, nas cidades da Sefelá, e nas cidades do Neguebe, e na terra de Benjamim, e nos lugares ao redor de Jerusalém, e nas cidades de Judá ainda passarão os rebanhos pelas mãos do que os conta, diz Jeová.14 Eis que vêm os dias, diz Jeová, em que cumprirei a boa palavra que falei acerca da casa de Israel e acerca da casa de Judá.15 Naqueles dias e naquele tempo farei brotar um Renovo de justiça para Davi; ele executará juízo e justiça na terra.16 Naqueles dias Judá será salvo, e Jerusalém habitará em segurança; este é o nome de que será ela chamada: Jeová é a nossa justiça.17 Pois assim diz Jeová: Nunca faltará a Davi varão que se assente sobre o trono da casa de Israel;18 nem aos sacerdotes levíticos faltará diante de mim varão que ofereça holocaustos, e queime oblações, e ofereça sacrifícios continuamente.19 A palavra de Jeová veio a Jeremias, dizendo:20 Assim diz Jeová: Se puderdes invalidar a minha aliança com o dia, e a minha aliança com a noite, de sorte que não haja nem dia nem noite a seu tempo;21 também poderá ser invalidada a minha aliança com o meu servo Davi, para que não tenha ele um filho que reine sobre o seu trono; também poderá ser invalidada a minha aliança com os sacerdotes levíticos, meus ministros.22 Assim como o exército do céu não pode ser contado, nem ser medida a areia do mar; assim multiplicarei a linhagem de Davi, meu servo, e os levitas, meus ministros.23 A palavra de Jeová veio a Jeremias, dizendo:24 Acaso não consideras o que este povo tem falado, dizendo: Acaso Jeová acaba de rejeitar as duas famílias que escolheu? assim eles desprezam o meu povo, ao ponto de não considerá-lo mais uma nação.25 Assim diz Jeová: Se não durar a minha aliança com o dia e com a noite, se eu não tiver determinado as ordenanças do céu e da terra;26 também rejeitarei a linhagem de Jacó, e de Davi, meu servo, de sorte que não tomarei da sua linhagem os que dominem sobre a linhagem de Abraão, Isaque e Jacó. Pois farei voltar o cativeiro deles, e me compadecerei deles.

1 The word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah the second time, while he was still confined in the court of the guard:2 »Jehovah is the maker of the earth. Jehovah is the one who formed and established it. Jehovah is His name.3 ‘Call to me and I will answer you. I will tell you grand and impressive things, things you do not know.’«4 »The houses in this city and the palaces of the kings of Judah have been torn down. They are used against the dirt ramps and weapons of the Babylonians. This is what Jehovah the God of Israel says about this:5 »The people of Israel fought the Babylonians. Now their houses are filled with the bodies of their own people I killed in my anger and my fury. I will hide my face from this city because of its wickedness.6 »However I will heal this city and restore it to health. I will heal its people, and I will give them peace and security.7 »I will restore Judah and Israel and rebuild them as they were before.8 »I will cleanse them from all the sins that they have committed against me. I will forgive them for all the sins that they have committed against me and for rebelling against me.9 »Jerusalem will be my source of joy, praise, and honor. All the nations on earth will hear about all the blessings that I will give to Jerusalem. They will be afraid and tremble because of all the prosperity that I will provide for it.’«10 »This is what Jehovah says: ‘You have said that this place is ruined and that no people or animals live in it. It is true! The cities of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem are deserted. No people or animals live there. But once again you will hear,11 »Yes, you will hear the sounds of joy and happiness and the sounds of brides and grooms. You will hear those who bring thank offerings to Jehovah’s Temple.« ’ »‘They will say: Give thanks to Jehovah of Hosts because Jehovah is good, because his mercy endures forever. I will restore the prosperity of the land to what they were before,« ’ says Jehovah.12 »Jehovah of Hosts said: ‘In this land that is like a desert and where no people or animals live, there will once again be pastures where shepherds can take their sheep.’13 »‘In mountain towns, in the foothills, and in southern Judah, in the territory of Benjamin, in the villages around Jerusalem, and in the towns of Judah, shepherds will once again count their sheep.’ I Jehovah have spoken.«14 »‘Jehovah said: ‘The time is coming when I will fulfill the promise that I made to the people of Israel and Judah.15 »At that time I will choose as king a righteous descendant of David. That king will do what is right and just throughout the land.16 »The people of Judah and of Jerusalem will be rescued and will live in safety. The city will be called Jehovah is Our Righteousness.’«17 »I Jehovah promise that there will always be a descendant of David to be king of Israel18 and that there will always be priests from the tribe of Levi to serve me and to offer burnt offerings, grain offerings, and sacrifices.’«19 Jehovah continued to speak to me:20 »If you break my covenant of the day and my covenant of the night, so that day and night will not be at their appointed time,21 then my covenant may also be broken with David my servant so that he will not have a son to reign on his throne, with the Levitical priests as my ministers.22 »‘I will increase the descendants of my servant David and the Levites who serve me in the same way as the stars of heaven that cannot be counted and the sand on the seashore that cannot be measured.’«23 The word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah:24 »Have you not observed what this people have said. They say, ‘The two families Jehovah chose, he has rejected?’ Thus they despise my people, no longer are they as a nation in their sight.25 »Jehovah says: ‘If My covenant for day and night do not stand and I have not established the fixed patterns of heaven and earth,26 then I would reject the descendants of Jacob and David my servant. And I would not take from his descendants rulers over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. But I will restore their prosperity and will show them love and compassion.’«
