1 Οι Ισραηλίτες είχαν ήδη νικήσει δύο βασιλιάδες ανατολικά του Ιορδάνη και είχαν καταλάβει τις χώρες τους, που εκτείνονταν από τον ποταμό Αρνών ως το όρος Ερμών και καταλάμβαναν την ανατολική περιοχή της κοιλάδας του Ιορδάνη. 2 Ο ένας ήταν ο Σιχόν, βασιλιάς των Αμορραίων, που κατοικούσε στην Εσεβών. Αυτός βασίλευε στο μισό της κοιλάδας του ποταμού Αρνών, από την πλευρά της Αροήρ, και στο μισό της περιοχής της Γαλαάδ, ως το χείμαρρο Ιαβόκ, που είναι το σύνορο με τη χώρα των Αμμωνιτών. 3 Είχε ακόμα στην κατοχή του το ανατολικό μέρος της κοιλάδας του Ιορδάνη, από τη θάλασσα Χιννερώθ*Βλ. υποσ. εις Αρ 34:11. στο βορρά, ως τη Νεκρά Θάλασσα, κοντά στη Βαιθ-Ιασιμώθ, και νοτιότερα την περιοχή στους πρόποδες του όρους Φασγά.

4 Ο άλλος βασιλιάς ήταν ο Ωγ, βασιλιάς της Βασάν, που προερχόταν από τα υπολείμματα των Ρεφαϊτών, και κατοικούσε στην Ασταρώθ και στην Εδρεΐ. 5 Στο βασίλειό του ανήκε το όρος Ερμών, η Σαλχά, ολόκληρη η Βασάν ως τα σύνορα των Γεσουριτών και των Μααχαθιτών, καθώς και η μισή περιοχή της Γαλαάδ, ως τα σύνορα του Σιχόν, βασιλιά της Εσεβών. 6 Ο Μωυσής, ο δούλος του Κυρίου, και οι Ισραηλίτες είχαν νικήσει αυτούς τους δύο βασιλιάδες και ο Μωυσής είχε δώσει τις χώρες τους στις φυλές Ρουβήν και Γαδ και στο μισό της φυλής Μανασσή για ιδιοκτησία.

7 Στη συνέχεια ο Ιησούς και οι Ισραηλίτες νίκησαν τους βασιλιάδες των χωρών δυτικά του Ιορδάνη, από τη Βάαλ-Γαδ της Κοιλάδας του Λιβάνου, στο βορρά, ως τις ορεινές ερήμους κοντά στο όρος Σηείρ, στο νότο. Ο Ιησούς έδωσε τις χώρες αυτών των βασιλιάδων για ιδιοκτησία στους Ισραηλίτες, κατανέμοντας σε κάθε φυλή το μερίδιό της. 8 Στο τμήμα αυτό περιλαμβανόταν η ορεινή και η πεδινή περιοχή, η κοιλάδα του Ιορδάνη, η περιοχή με τις βουνοπλαγιές, η έρημος και η νότια περιοχή. Σ’ αυτά τα εδάφη ζούσαν οι Χετταίοι, οι Αμορραίοι, οι Χαναναίοι, οι Φερεζαίοι, οι Ευαίοι και οι Ιεβουσαίοι.

9 Οι βασιλιάδες που νικήθηκαν ήταν αυτοί των παρακάτω πόλεων: της Ιεριχώ, της Γαι, που βρίσκεται κοντά στη Βαιθήλ, 10 της Ιερουσαλήμ, της Χεβρών, 11 της Ιαρμούθ, της Λαχίς, 12 της Εγλών, της Γέζερ, 13 της Δεβείρ, της Γέδερ, 14 της Χορμά, της Αράδ, 15 της Λιβνά, της Αδουλλάμ, 16 της Μακκηδά, της Βαιθήλ, 17 της Ταπουά, της Χέφερ, 18 της Αφέκ, της Λασσαρών, 19 της Μαδών, της Ασώρ, 20 της Σιμρών-Μερών, της Αχσάφ, 21 της Τανάχ, της Μεγιδδώ, 22 της Κέδες, της Ιοκνεάμ στον Κάρμηλο, 23 της Δωρ στις βουνοπλαγιές της Δωρ, της Γαλιλαίας των Εθνών,*της Γαλιλαίας των Εθνών, κατά τους Ο΄. Το εβρ. έχει «στα Γάλγαλα».24 και της Τιρσά –συνολικά τριάντα ένας βασιλιάδες.

1 Now these are the kings of the land, which the children of Israel smote, and possessed their land on the other side Jordan toward the rising of the sun, from the river Arnon unto mount Hermon, and all the plain on the east: 2 Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, and ruled from Aroer, which is upon the bank of the river Arnon, and from the middle of the river, and from half Gilead, even unto the river Jabbok, which is the border of the children of Ammon; 3 And from the plain to the sea of Chinneroth on the east, and unto the sea of the plain, even the salt sea on the east, the way to Beth-jeshimoth; and from the south, under Ashdoth-pisgah:*12.3 the south: or, Teman*12.3 Ashdoth-pisgah: or, the springs of Pisgah, or, the hill

4 And the coast of Og king of Bashan, which was of the remnant of the giants, that dwelt at Ashtaroth and at Edrei, 5 And reigned in mount Hermon, and in Salcah, and in all Bashan, unto the border of the Geshurites and the Maachathites, and half Gilead, the border of Sihon king of Heshbon. 6 Them did Moses the servant of the LORD and the children of Israel smite: and Moses the servant of the LORD gave it for a possession unto the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh.

7 And these are the kings of the country which Joshua and the children of Israel smote on this side Jordan on the west, from Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon even unto the mount Halak, that goeth up to Seir; which Joshua gave unto the tribes of Israel for a possession according to their divisions; 8 In the mountains, and in the valleys, and in the plains, and in the springs, and in the wilderness, and in the south country; the Hittites, the Amorites, and the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites:
