1 Η περιοχή που δόθηκε με κλήρο στις συγγένειες της φυλής Ιούδα εκτεινόταν ως το νοτιότερο άκρο της ερήμου Σιν, στα σύνορα της Ιδουμαίας. 2 Έτσι, τα νότια σύνορα της περιοχής ξεκινούσαν από τον κόλπο που βρίσκεται στο νότιο άκρο της Νεκράς Θάλασσας, 3 προχωρούσαν από τα νότια της ανωφέρειας Ακραββίμ,*ανωφέρειας Ακραββίμ. Βλ. υποσ. εις Αρ 34:4. περνούσαν από τη Σιν κι ύστερα από τα νότια της Κάδης-Βαρνή περνούσαν από την Εσρών και ανέβαιναν στην Αδδάρ, απ’ όπου γύριζαν προς την Καρκαά. 4 Έπειτα περνούσαν από την Ασμών, συνέχιζαν ως τον χείμαρρο της Αιγύπτου*χείμαρρο της Αιγύπτου. Βλ. υποσ. εις Αρ 34:5. και κατέληγαν στη θάλασσα. Αυτά ήταν τα νότια σύνορα της φυλής Ιούδα.*τα νότια... Ιούδα. Το εβρ. έχει «τα νότια σύνορά σας».

5 Το ανατολικό σύνορο ήταν η Νεκρά Θάλασσα ως την εκβολή του Ιορδάνη. Από κείνο το σημείο, άρχιζαν τα βόρεια σύνορα. 6 Ανέβαιναν προς τη Βαιθ-Χογλά, περνούσαν βόρεια της Βαιθ-Αραβά και ανέβαιναν προς την Πέτρα που ονομαζόταν «του Βοάν», ενός από τους γιους του Ρουβήν. 7 Κατόπιν τα σύνορα ανέβαιναν προς τη Δεβείρ περνώντας από την Κοιλάδα Αχώρ, κι έπειτα βορινότερα γύριζαν προς τα Γάλγαλα,*Γάλγαλα. Άλλη πόλη, διαφορετική από αυτήν που αναφέρεται εις κεφ. 4:19 και 5:9. που βρίσκονται απέναντι από την ανωφέρεια της Αδουμμίμ, νότια της χαράδρας· στη συνέχεια περνούσαν από τις πηγές της Εν-Σεμές και προχωρούσαν ως την Εν-Ρωγήλ. 8 Έπειτα ανέβαιναν την Κοιλάδα Εννόμ, προς τη νότια πλευρά του λόφου της Ιεβούς, δηλαδή της Ιερουσαλήμ· περνούσαν από την κορυφή του βουνού που βρίσκεται στα δυτικά της Κοιλάδας Εννόμ και στο βόρειο άκρο της Κοιλάδας Ρεφαείμ. 9 Από ’κει τα σύνορα γύριζαν προς τις πηγές της Νεφτωάχ, έβγαιναν στις πόλεις του όρους Εφρών και κατόπιν συνέχιζαν προς την Βααλά, δηλαδή την Κιριάθ-Ιαρίμ. 10 Από τη Βααλά τα σύνορα γύριζαν δυτικά προς το όρος Σηείρ*όρος Σηείρ. Διαφορετικό από κείνο που βρίσκεται στην Εδώμ (πρβλ. υποσ. εις Δτ 1:2). και συνέχιζαν προς τη βόρεια κορυφή του όρους Ιαρίμ, δηλαδή στη Χεσαλών, κατέβαιναν προς τη Βαιθ-Σεμές και περνούσαν από την Τιμνά. 11 Έπειτα, συνέχιζαν προς τη βόρεια πλευρά της πόλης Εκρών, γύριζαν προς την Σικρών, περνούσαν από το όρος Βααλά, προχωρούσαν προς την Ιαβνεήλ και κατέληγαν στη θάλασσα. 12 Το δυτικό όριο ήταν η Μεγάλη Θάλασσα.

Αυτά ήταν τα σύνορα της περιοχής που δόθηκε στη φυλή Ιούδα, ανάλογα με τις συγγένειές τους.

13 Στο Χάλεβ, γιο του Ιεφοννή, ο Ιησούς έδωσε μερίδιο από τα εδάφη της φυλής Ιούδα, όπως τον είχε διατάξει ο Κύριος. Τους έδωσε την πόλη του Αρβά, πατέρα του Ανάκ, τη σημερινή Χεβρών. 14 Ο Χάλεβ έδιωξε από ’κει τις τρεις συγγένειες των Ανακιτών: του Σεσαΐ, του Αχιμάν και του Ταλμαΐ. 15 Από εκεί ξεκίνησε για να χτυπήσει τους κατοίκους της Δεβείρ, η οποία παλιότερα λεγόταν Κιριάθ-Σεφέρ. 16 Τότε ο Χάλεβ έκανε την ανακοίνωση: «Όποιος χτυπήσει την Κιριάθ-Σεφέρ και την κυριέψει, θα του δώσω την κόρη μου Αχσά για γυναίκα». 17 Την κυρίεψε ο Οθνιήλ, γιος του Κενά, αδερφού του Χάλεβ, κι έτσι ο Χάλεβ έδωσε σ’ αυτόν την κόρη του για γυναίκα.

18 Την ημέρα του γάμου αυτή ζήτησε από τον Οθνιήλ τη συγκατάθεσή του να γυρέψει από τον πατέρα της ένα χωράφι. Χτύπησε τα χέρια της πάνω από το γαϊδούρι κι ο Χάλεβ τη ρώτησε: «Τι σου συμβαίνει;» 19 Αυτή του απάντησε: «Θέλω να μου δώσεις ένα δώρο. Η περιοχή που μου παραχώρησες νότια είναι άνυδρη· γι’ αυτό να μου δώσεις και πηγές με νερό». Έτσι ο Χάλεβ της έδωσε τις πηγές στα ορεινά και στα πεδινά.

20 Αυτή είναι λοιπόν η περιοχή που δόθηκε με κλήρο στη φυλή Ιούδα, ανάλογα με τις συγγένειές τους:

21 Στο νότιο τμήμα της περιοχής του Ιούδα, κοντά στα σύνορα της Εδώμ οι πόλεις: Καβσεήλ, Έδερ και Ιαγούρ, 22 Κινά, Διμωνά, Αδαδά, 23 Κέδες, Ασώρ, Ιθνάν, 24 Ζιφ, Τέλεμ, Βεαλώθ, 25 Ασώρ-Αδαττά, Κιριώθ-Εσρών, που λέγεται και Ασώρ, 26 Αμάμ, Σεμά, Μωλαδά, 27 Ασάρ-Γαδδά, Εσμών, Βαιθ-Παλέτ, 28 Ασάρ-Σουάλ, Βέερ-Σεβά με τις γύρω περιοχές της, 29 Βααλά, Ιείμ, Ασέμ, 30 Ελτωλάδ, Χεσίλ, Χορμά, 31 Σικλάγ, Μαδμαννά, Σανσαννά, 32 Λεβαώθ, Σιλίμ και Άειν-Ριμμών –συνολικά είκοσι εννέα πόλεις με τα χωριά τους.

33 Στην πεδιάδα οι πόλεις: Εσταόλ, Σωρεά, Ασνά, 34 Ζανωάχ, Εν-Γαννίμ, Ταπουάχ, Ενάμ, 35 Ιαρμούθ, Αδουλλάμ, Σοχώ, Αζεκά, 36 Σααραΐμ, Αδιδαΐμ, η Γεδερά και οι επαύλεις της –δεκατέσσερις πόλεις με τα χωριά τους.

37 Επίσης οι πόλεις: Σενάν, Αδασά, Μιγδάλ-Γαδ, 38 Διλεάν, Μισπέ, Ιοκθεήλ, 39 Λαχίς, Βασκάθ, Εγλών, 40 Χαββών, Λαχμάς, Χιθλίς, 41 Γεδερώθ, Βαιθ-Δαγών, Νααμά, και Μακκηδά –δεκαέξι πόλεις με τα χωριά τους.

42 Επίσης οι πόλεις: Λιβνά, Έθερ, Ασάν, 43 Ιφτάχ, Ασνά, Νεσίβ, 44 Κεϊλά, Αχζίβ και Μαρεσά –εννιά πόλεις με τα χωριά τους.

45 Επίσης η Εκρών με τις γύρω περιοχές και τα χωριά της. 46 Όλες οι πόλεις που βρίσκονται κοντά στην Ασδώδ με τα χωριά τους, από την Εκρών ως τη θάλασσα. 47 Η Ασδώδ με τις γύρω περιοχές και τα χωριά της, η Γάζα με τις γύρω περιοχές και τα χωριά της, ως το χείμαρρο της Αιγύπτου*χείμαρρο της Αιγύπτου. Βλ. υποσ. εις Αρ 34:5. και τη Μεγάλη Θάλασσα, που ήταν και το σύνορο.

48 Στην ορεινή περιοχή οι πόλεις: Σαμίρ, Ιαθείρ, Σωχώ, 49 Δαννά, Κιριάθ-σαννά (η σημερινή Δεβείρ), 50 Ανάβ, Εστεμώ, Ανίμ, 51 Γεσέν,*Γεσέν. Βλ. υποσ. εις κεφ. 10:41. Χωλών και Γιλώ –έντεκα πόλεις με τα χωριά τους.

52 Επίσης οι πόλεις: Αράβ, Δουμά, Εσάν, 53 Ιανίμ, Βαιθ-Ταππούαχ, Αφεκά, 54 Χουμτά, Κιριάθ-Αρβά, (η σημερινή Χεβρών) και η Σιώρ –εννιά πόλεις με τα χωριά τους.

55 Επίσης οι πόλεις Μαών, Καρμέλ, Ζιφ, Ιουτά, 56 Ιζρεέλ, Ιοκδεάμ, Ζανωάχ, 57 Κάιν, Γιβεά και Τιμνά –δέκα πόλεις με τα χωριά τους.

58 Επίσης οι πόλεις: Χαλχούλ, Βαιθ-Σουρ, Γεδώρ, 59 Μααράθ, Βαιθ-Ανώθ και Ελτεκών –έξι πόλεις με τα χωριά τους.

60 Επίσης η Κιριάθ-Βαάλ, (η σημερινή Κιριάθ-Ιαρίμ) και η Ραββά –δύο πόλεις με τα χωριά τους.

61 Επίσης στην έρημο οι πόλεις: Βαιθ-Αραβά, Μιδδίν, Σεχαχά, 62 Νιβσάν, η Πόλη του Άλατος, και η Εν-Γεδί –έξι πόλεις με τα χωριά τους.

63 Ωστόσο, οι απόγονοι του Ιούδα δεν μπόρεσαν να εκδιώξουν τους Ιεβουσαίους, κατοίκους της Ιερουσαλήμ· έτσι αυτοί ζουν στην πόλη μαζί με τη φυλή Ιούδα μέχρι σήμερα.

1 This then was the lot of the tribe of the children of Judah by their families; even to the border of Edom the wilderness of Zin southward was the uttermost part of the south coast. 2 And their south border was from the shore of the salt sea, from the bay that looketh southward:*15.2 bay: Heb. tongue 3 And it went out to the south side to Maaleh-acrabbim, and passed along to Zin, and ascended up on the south side unto Kadesh-barnea, and passed along to Hezron, and went up to Adar, and fetched a compass to Karkaa:*15.3 Maaleh-acrabbim: or, the going up to Acrabbim 4 From thence it passed toward Azmon, and went out unto the river of Egypt; and the goings out of that coast were at the sea: this shall be your south coast. 5 And the east border was the salt sea, even unto the end of Jordan. And their border in the north quarter was from the bay of the sea at the uttermost part of Jordan: 6 And the border went up to Beth-hogla, and passed along by the north of Beth-arabah; and the border went up to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben: 7 And the border went up toward Debir from the valley of Achor, and so northward, looking toward Gilgal, that is before the going up to Adummim, which is on the south side of the river: and the border passed toward the waters of En-shemesh, and the goings out thereof were at En-rogel: 8 And the border went up by the valley of the son of Hinnom unto the south side of the Jebusite; the same is Jerusalem: and the border went up to the top of the mountain that lieth before the valley of Hinnom westward, which is at the end of the valley of the giants northward: 9 And the border was drawn from the top of the hill unto the fountain of the water of Nephtoah, and went out to the cities of mount Ephron; and the border was drawn to Baalah, which is Kirjath-jearim: 10 And the border compassed from Baalah westward unto mount Seir, and passed along unto the side of mount Jearim, which is Chesalon, on the north side, and went down to Beth-shemesh, and passed on to Timnah: 11 And the border went out unto the side of Ekron northward: and the border was drawn to Shicron, and passed along to mount Baalah, and went out unto Jabneel; and the goings out of the border were at the sea. 12 And the west border was to the great sea, and the coast thereof. This is the coast of the children of Judah round about according to their families.

13 And unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a part among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of the LORD to Joshua, even the city of Arba the father of Anak, which city is Hebron.*15.13 the city…: or, Kirjath-arba 14 And Caleb drove thence the three sons of Anak, Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak. 15 And he went up thence to the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjath-sepher.

16 And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjath-sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife. 17 And Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife. 18 And it came to pass, as she came unto him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wouldest thou? 19 Who answered, Give me a blessing; for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And he gave her the upper springs, and the nether springs.

20 This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Judah according to their families. 21 And the uttermost cities of the tribe of the children of Judah toward the coast of Edom southward were Kabzeel, and Eder, and Jagur, 22 And Kinah, and Dimonah, and Adadah, 23 And Kedesh, and Hazor, and Ithnan, 24 Ziph, and Telem, and Bealoth, 25 And Hazor, Hadattah, and Kerioth, and Hezron, which is Hazor, 26 Amam, and Shema, and Moladah, 27 And Hazar-gaddah, and Heshmon, and Beth-palet, 28 And Hazar-shual, and Beer-sheba, and Bizjothjah, 29 Baalah, and Iim, and Azem, 30 And Eltolad, and Chesil, and Hormah, 31 And Ziklag, and Madmannah, and Sansannah, 32 And Lebaoth, and Shilhim, and Ain, and Rimmon: all the cities are twenty and nine, with their villages: 33 And in the valley, Eshtaol, and Zoreah, and Ashnah, 34 And Zanoah, and En-gannim, Tappuah, and Enam, 35 Jarmuth, and Adullam, Socoh, and Azekah, 36 And Sharaim, and Adithaim, and Gederah, and Gederothaim; fourteen cities with their villages:*15.36 and Gederothaim: or, or Gederothaim 37 Zenan, and Hadashah, and Migdal-gad, 38 And Dilean, and Mizpeh, and Joktheel, 39 Lachish, and Bozkath, and Eglon, 40 And Cabbon, and Lahmam, and Kithlish, 41 And Gederoth, Beth-dagon, and Naamah, and Makkedah; sixteen cities with their villages: 42 Libnah, and Ether, and Ashan, 43 And Jiphtah, and Ashnah, and Nezib, 44 And Keilah, and Achzib, and Mareshah; nine cities with their villages: 45 Ekron, with her towns and her villages: 46 From Ekron even unto the sea, all that lay near Ashdod, with their villages:*15.46 near: Heb. by the place of 47 Ashdod with her towns and her villages, Gaza with her towns and her villages, unto the river of Egypt, and the great sea, and the border thereof:

63 As for the Jebusites the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah could not drive them out: but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Judah at Jerusalem unto this day.
