1 Στους απογόνους του Ιωσήφ δόθηκε με κλήρο μια περιοχή που τα σύνορά της ξεκινούσαν από τον Ιορδάνη κοντά στην Ιεριχώ, ανατολικά της πηγής απ’ όπου υδρευόταν η Ιεριχώ. Από την Ιεριχώ προχωρούσαν στην έρημο και ανέβαιναν στα βουνά της Βαιθήλ· 2 συνέχιζαν από τη Βαιθήλ προς την Λουζ και κατευθύνονταν προς τα σύνορα των Αρκιτών,*Οι Αρκίτες όπως και οι Ιαφλαιτίτες του στ. 3 είναι πιθανώς χανανιτικοί λαοί. ως την Αταρώθ. 3 Έπειτα κατέβαιναν δυτικά, προς τα σύνορα των Ιαφλαιτιτών, ως τα σύνορα της κάτω Βαιθ-Χωρών κι ως τη Γεζέρ, και κατέληγαν στη θάλασσα. 4 Οι απόγονοι του Ιωσήφ, δηλαδή οι φυλές Εφραΐμ και Μανασσή, μοιράστηκαν αυτή την περιοχή.

5 Οι συγγένειες της φυλής Εφραΐμ έλαβαν ένα μέρος της περιοχής, που τα σύνορά της άρχιζαν από την Αταρώθ-Αδδάρ, νοτιοανατολικά, ως την άνω Βαιθ-Χωρών. 6 Από ’κει συνεχίζονταν δυτικά ως τη θάλασσα. Στα βόρεια, περνούσαν κοντά από τη Μιχμεθάθ. Κατόπιν γύριζαν ανατολικά προς την Ταανάθ-Σιλώ, την προσπερνούσαν κι έφταναν στην Ιανωχά. 7 Από την Ιανωχά κατέβαιναν προς την Αταρώθ και τη Νααράθ, έφταναν στην Ιεριχώ και κατέληγαν στον Ιορδάνη. 8 Δυτικά της Μιχμεθάθ, τα σύνορα συνέχιζαν από την Ταππουάχ ως τον ποταμό Κανά και κατέληγαν στη θάλασσα. Αυτή είναι η περιοχή που δόθηκε με κλήρο στις συγγένειες της φυλής Εφραΐμ. 9 Επίσης τους δόθηκαν ορισμένες πόλεις, μαζί με τα χωριά τους, μέσα στην περιοχή της φυλής Μανασσή, οι οποίες ήταν ξεχωρισμένες για τους Εφραϊμίτες. 10 Οι απόγονοι του Εφραΐμ δεν εκδίωξαν τους Χαναναίους που κατοικούσαν στη Γεζέρ· έτσι οι Χαναναίοι παρέμειναν ανάμεσα στους Εφραϊμίτες μέχρι σήμερα, αλλά ήταν υποτελείς τους.

1 And the lot of the children of Joseph fell from Jordan by Jericho, unto the water of Jericho on the east, to the wilderness that goeth up from Jericho throughout mount Beth-el,*16.1 fell: Heb. went forth 2 And goeth out from Beth-el to Luz, and passeth along unto the borders of Archi to Ataroth, 3 And goeth down westward to the coast of Japhleti, unto the coast of Beth-horon the nether, and to Gezer: and the goings out thereof are at the sea. 4 So the children of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim, took their inheritance.

5 And the border of the children of Ephraim according to their families was thus: even the border of their inheritance on the east side was Ataroth-addar, unto Beth-horon the upper; 6 And the border went out toward the sea to Michmethah on the north side; and the border went about eastward unto Taanath-shiloh, and passed by it on the east to Janohah; 7 And it went down from Janohah to Ataroth, and to Naarath, and came to Jericho, and went out at Jordan. 8 The border went out from Tappuah westward unto the river Kanah; and the goings out thereof were at the sea. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Ephraim by their families. 9 And the separate cities for the children of Ephraim were among the inheritance of the children of Manasseh, all the cities with their villages. 10 And they drave not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites unto this day, and serve under tribute.
