1 Γιατί στα έθνη ταραχή

κι οι λαοί ματαιότητες

σιγανοψιθυρίζουν;

2 Της γης οι βασιλιάδες συσπειρώθηκαν

κι οι άρχοντες μαζεύτηκαν

ενάντια στον Κύριο,

στον εκλεκτό του ενάντια,

και σκέφτονται:

3 «Ας σπάσουμε τα δεσμά τους,

τις αλυσίδες τους ας τις αποτινάξουμε».

4 Θ’ αναγελάσει εκείνος

που ’χει στους ουρανούς το θρόνο του·

θα τους χλευάσει ο Κύριος!

5 Θα τους μιλήσει τότε οργισμένος,

με το θυμό του

θα τους συνταράξει:

6 «Εγώ» –θα πει–

«έχρισα στη Σιών το βασιλιά μου,

στο άγιο μου βουνό».

7 Διακηρύττω εκείνο

που ο Κύριος αποφάσισε.*Διακηρύττω... αποφάσισε. Ο Ψαλμός αυτός πιθανώς απαγγελλόταν κατά την ενθρόνιση του βασιλιά. Στο στ. 7 αρχίζει να μιλάει ο ίδιος ο βασιλιάς.

Μου είπε:

«Γιος μου είσ’ εσύ·

σήμερα εγώ σε γέννησα.*Γιος μου... γέννησα. Νομική ορολογία στη διαδικασία της υιοθεσίας στους αρχαίους Εβραίους.

8 Ζήτα μου και θα σου χαρίσω όλους τους λαούς,

στην κατοχή σου θα ’ναι

ως και τα πέρατα της γης.

9 Με σιδερένιο χέρι θα τους κυβερνήσεις,

θα τους συντρίψεις

σαν να ’ταν καμωμένοι από πηλό».

10 Τώρα, λοιπόν, συνετιστείτε, βασιλιάδες·

του κόσμου κυβερνήτες διδαχτείτε.

11 Τον Κύριο με φόβο υπηρετήστε

και με τρόμο γιορτάστε γι’ αυτόν.

12 Αποδώστε στο γιο του

την τιμή που του αξίζει·

αλλιώς θα οργιστεί

και θα χαθείτε απ’ της ζωής το δρόμο,

γιατί ο θυμός του θα ξεσπάσει.

Μακάριοι όσοι προσφεύγουνε σ’ αυτόν!

3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.*2.5 vex: or, trouble

7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.*2.7 the decree: or, for a decree

8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.

10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.

11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
