2 Κύριε, Θεέ μου,

σ’ εσένα καταφεύγω·

σώσε με από τον κάθε διώχτη μου

και ελευθέρωσέ με·

3 να μην αρπάξει σαν λιοντάρι τη ζωή μου

και την κατασπαράξει,

και τότε ούτ’ ένας να με σώσει δε θα μπορεί.

4 Κύριε, Θεέ μου,

δεν έπραξα αυτό που με κατηγορούν,

ούτ’ έκανα καμιά παρανομία·

5 δεν ανταπόδωσα κακό

σ’ αυτόν που ειρηνικά μού φέρθηκε,

τους εχθρούς μου αναίτια δεν τους λεηλάτησα.

6 Αλλιώς, ας με καταδιώξουν οι εχθροί μου

κι ας με φτάσουν·

και τη ζωή μου

ας την ποδοπατήσουνε στη γη·

στο χώμα ας ρίξουν την ατίμητη ύπαρξή μου.

7 Έλα, Κύριε, μέσα στην οργή σου,

ορθώσου ενάντια στη μανία των εχθρών μου·

υπερασπίσου με στην κρίση που εσύ όρισες.

8 Θα σε περιστοιχίζει των λαών η σύναξη·

στο θρόνο κάθισε ψηλά πάνω απ’ αυτούς.

9 Εσύ, Κύριε, που κρίνεις τους λαούς.

κι ευνόησε το δίκιο μου,

την αθωότητά μου.

10 Ας σταματήσει πια η κακία των ασεβών·

και στέριωσε τον άνθρωπο τον δίκαιο,

εσύ που ξέρεις σ’ όλο τους το βάθος

σκέψεις κι επιθυμίες, δίκαιε Θεέ.

11 Με προστατεύει ο Θεός,

τους τίμιους τους σώζει.

12 Ο Θεός είναι δίκαιος κριτής,

τον ένοχο παντοτινά καταδικάζει.

13 Αν δεν μετανοήσουν οι ασεβείς,

θα κάνει πιο βαριά την τιμωρία·

τέντωσε τη χορδή του τόξου και σκοπεύει.

14 Γι’ αυτούς ετοίμασε τα όπλα του θανάτου·

πάνω τους ρίχνει βέλη πύρινα.

15 Να, ο άνομος κυοφορεί·

την πονηρία συνέλαβε, γεννοβολάει το ψέμα.

16 Έσκαψε λάκκο και τον βάθυνε·

όμως αυτός θα πέσει

στο βόθρο που ετοίμασε.

17 Πάνω στην κεφαλή του ξαναγυρνά η κακία του,

και πέφτει η ανομία του

πάνω στο μέτωπό του.

18 Τον Κύριο θα δοξολογώ για τη δικαιοσύνη του·

θα ψάλλω του Κυρίου του ύψιστου την ύπαρξη.

Shiggaion of David, which he sang unto the LORD, concerning the words of Cush the Benjamite.

1 O LORD my God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me:*7.1 words: or, business

2 Lest he tear my soul like a lion, rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.*7.2 none…: Heb. not a deliverer

3 O LORD my God, if I have done this; if there be iniquity in my hands;

4 If I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me; (yea, I have delivered him that without cause is mine enemy:)

5 Let the enemy persecute my soul, and take it; yea, let him tread down my life upon the earth, and lay mine honour in the dust. Selah.

6 Arise, O LORD, in thine anger, lift up thyself because of the rage of mine enemies: and awake for me to the judgment that thou hast commanded.

7 So shall the congregation of the people compass thee about: for their sakes therefore return thou on high.

8 The LORD shall judge the people: judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness, and according to mine integrity that is in me.

9 Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins.

10 My defence is of God, which saveth the upright in heart.*7.10 My…: Heb. My buckler is upon God

11 God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.*7.11 judgeth…: or, is a righteous judge

12 If he turn not, he will whet his sword; he hath bent his bow, and made it ready.

13 He hath also prepared for him the instruments of death; he ordaineth his arrows against the persecutors.

14 Behold, he travaileth with iniquity, and hath conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood.

15 He made a pit, and digged it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made.*7.15 He made a pit: Heb. He hath digged a pit

16 His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own pate.

17 I will praise the LORD according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the LORD most high.
