1 "Say to your brothers, ‘My people!’2:1 ‘Ammi’ in Hebrew
and to your sisters, ‘My loved one!’2:1 ‘Ruhamah’ in Hebrew
2 Contend with your mother!
Contend, for she is not my wife,
neither am I her husband;
and let her put away her prostitution from her face,
and her adulteries from between her breasts;
3 lest I strip her naked,
and make her bare as in the day that she was born,
and make her like a wilderness,
and set her like a dry land,
and kill her with thirst.
4 Indeed, on her children I will have no mercy,
for they are children of unfaithfulness.
5 For their mother has played the prostitute.
She who conceived them has done shamefully;
for she said, ‘I will go after my lovers,
who give me my bread and my water,
my wool and my flax,
my oil and my drink.’
6 Therefore behold,2:6 "Behold", from "הִנֵּה", means look at, take notice, observe, see, or gaze at. It is often used as an interjection. I will hedge up your way with thorns,
and I will build a wall against her,
that she can’t find her way.
7 She will follow after her lovers,
but she won’t overtake them;
and she will seek them,
but won’t find them.
Then she will say, ‘I will go and return to my first husband,
for then it was better with me than now.’
8 For she didn’t know that I gave her the grain, the new wine, and the oil,
and multiplied to her silver and gold, which they used for Baal.
9 Therefore I will take back my grain in its time,
and my new wine in its season,
and will pluck away my wool and my flax which should have covered her nakedness.
10 Now I will uncover her lewdness in the sight of her lovers,
and no one will deliver her out of my hand.
11 I will also cause all her celebrations to cease:
her feasts, her new moons, her Sabbaths, and all her solemn assemblies.
12 I will lay waste her vines and her fig trees,
about which she has said, ‘These are my wages that my lovers have given me,’
and I will make them a forest,
and the animals of the field shall eat them.
13 I will visit on her the days of the Baals,
to which she burned incense
when she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels,
and went after her lovers
and forgot me," says Yahweh.
14 "Therefore behold, I will allure her,
and bring her into the wilderness,
and speak tenderly to her.
15 I will give her vineyards from there,
and the valley of Achor for a door of hope;
and she will respond there
as in the days of her youth,
and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.
16 It will be in that day," says Yahweh,
"that you will call me ‘my husband,’
and no longer call me ‘my master.’
17 For I will take away the names of the Baals out of her mouth,
and they will no longer be mentioned by name.
18 In that day I will make a covenant for them with the animals of the field,
and with the birds of the sky,
and with the creeping things of the ground.
I will break the bow, the sword, and the battle out of the land,
and will make them lie down safely.
19 I will betroth you to me forever.
Yes, I will betroth you to me in righteousness, in justice, in loving kindness, and in compassion.
20 I will even betroth you to me in faithfulness;
and you shall know Yahweh.
21 It will happen in that day, that I will respond," says Yahweh.
"I will respond to the heavens,
and they will respond to the earth;
22 and the earth will respond to the grain, and the new wine, and the oil;
and they will respond to Jezreel.
23 I will sow her to me in the earth;
and I will have mercy on her who had not obtained mercy;
and I will tell those who were not my people, ‘You are my people;’
and they will say, ‘You are My God!’"

1 "Mea atu koutou ki ō koutou tuākana, ‘Ami,’ ki ō koutou tuāhine, ‘Ruhama.’ "
Te Pūremu a Koma – Te Pūremu a Īharaira
2 "Whakawākia tō koutou whaea, whakawākia,
ehara hoki ia i te wahine nāku,
ehara anō ahau i te tahu nāna.
Nā, kia whakarērea e ia ōna moepuku i tōna aroaro,
ōna pūremu i waenga ōna ū.
3 Kei tangohia ōna e ahau, ā, ka noho tahanga ia,
kei meinga anō ia kia rite ki te rā i whānau ai ia;
kei meinga ia e ahau kia rite ki te koraha,
kei waiho ia hei whenua waikore,
ā, ka mate i te matewai.
4 Āe rā, e kore āna tamariki e tohungia e ahau;
nō te mea he tamariki rātou nā te moepuku.
5 Kua kairau nei hoki tō rātou whaea;
he mahi whakamā tā te wahine i whānau ai rātou.
7 Ka whāia anō e ia āna i aroha ai,
heoi, e kore e mau i a ia;
ka rapua rātou e ia,
otiia e kore e kitea.
Kātahi ia ka mea ake, ‘Ka haere ahau
ka hoki ki tāku tahu tuatahi;
nui ake hoki tō reira pai ki ahau i tō nāianei.’
8 Kīhai rā hoki ia i mōhio
nāku i hoatu te wīti ki a ia,
te wāina, me te hinu,
nāku anō i whakanui te hiriwa māna, me te kōura,
tā rātou i mahi nei hei mea mā Paara.
9 "Mō reira ka hoki ahau,
ka tango i tāku wīti i tōna wā anō,
i tāku wāina i tōna wā anō,
ka riro anō i ahau tāku huruhuru hipi me tāku muka
i hīpokina ai ia i a ia e noho tahanga ana.
10 Nā, ākuanei ka whakakitea e ahau
tāna mahi wairangi ki ngā kanohi o āna i aroha ai,
e kore anō tētahi tangata e whakaora i a ia i roto i tōku ringa.
11 Ka mutu katoa anō i ahau tōna koa,
ōna rā hākari, ōna kōwhititanga marama, ōna hāpati,
me āna huihui nunui katoa.
12 Ka ururua anō i ahau āna wāina, me āna piki,
ngā mea i kī ai ia,
‘Ko ōku utu ēnei,
he mea hōmai nā āku i aroha ai.’
Ā, ka meinga e ahau hei ngahere,
ā, ka kainga e ngā kīrehe o te pārae.
13 Ka whiua anō ia e ahau mō ngā rā o ngā Paarimi,
mō ērā i tahu whakakakara ai ia ki a rātou;
ā, whakapaipai ana i a ia ki ōna whakakai,
ki āna whakapaipai, haere ana ki te whai i āna i aroha ai,
ā, wareware ake ki ahau," e ai tā Ihowā.
14 "Mō reira, nanā, ka whakawai ahau i a ia,
ka kawe i a ia ki te koraha,
ka kōrero whakamārie anō ki a ia.
15 Ka hoatu anō e ahau ētahi māra wāina ki a ia i reira,
me te raorao o Ākoro hei kūwaha mō te tūmanako.
Ā, ka whakahoki kupu ia ki reira,
ka pērā me tō ngā rā o tōna tamarikitanga,
me tō te rā hoki i haere mai ai ia i te whenua o Īhipa.
16 "Nā, i taua rā," e ai tā Ihowā,
"ka karangatia ahau e koe, ‘E Ihi,’
e kore hoki ahau e karangatia e koe, ‘E Paari,’ ā muri ake nei.
17 Nō te mea ka tangohia e ahau ngā ingoa o ngā Paarimi i roto i tōna māngai,
e kore anō rātou, ō rātou ingoa,
e maharatia ā muri ake nei.
18 Ka whakaritea anō e ahau i taua rā he kawenata,
he pai mō rātou, ki ngā kīrehe o te pārae, ki ngā manu o te rangi, ki
ngā mea ngōkingōki o te oneone.
Ka whati anō i ahau te kōpere, te hoari,
te whawhai i runga i te whenua,
ā, ka meinga rātou e ahau kia au te takoto.
19 Ka taumautia anō koe e ahau ā ake ake;
inā, ka taumautia koe e ahau māku i runga i te tika,
i te whakarite whakawā, i te aroha, i te atawhai.
20 Ka taumautia anō koe māku i runga i te pono, ā, ka mōhio koe ki a Ihowā.
21 "I taua rā ka whakarongo ahau," e ai tā Ihowā,
"ka whakarongo ahau ki ngā rangi,
ka whakarongo rātou ki te whenua.
22 Ka whakarongo anō te whenua ki te wīti, ki te wāina, ki te hinu;
ā, ka whakarongo ērā ki a Ietereere;
23 ka whakatō anō ahau i a ia māku ki te whenua.
Ka tohu i tēnei kīhai nei i tohungia,
ka kī atu anō ki te hunga ehara nei i te iwi nāku, ‘ko koe tāku iwi,’
ā, ka mea ērā, ‘Ko koe tōku Atua.’ "
