Marcos 9

1 He said to them, "Most certainly I tell you, there are some standing here who will in no way taste death until they see God’s Kingdom come with power."

2 After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John, and brought them up onto a high mountain privately by themselves, and he was changed into another form in front of them. 3 His clothing became glistening, exceedingly white, like snow, such as no launderer on earth can whiten them. 4 Elijah and Moses appeared to them, and they were talking with Jesus.

5 Peter answered Jesus, "Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let’s make three tents: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah." 6 For he didn’t know what to say, for they were very afraid.

7 A cloud came, overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud, "This is my beloved Son. Listen to him."

8 Suddenly looking around, they saw no one with them any more, except Jesus only.

9 As they were coming down from the mountain, he commanded them that they should tell no one what things they had seen, until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead. 10 They kept this saying to themselves, questioning what the "rising from the dead" meant.

11 They asked him, saying, "Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?"

12 He said to them, "Elijah indeed comes first, and restores all things. How is it written about the Son of Man, that he should suffer many things and be despised? 13 But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they have also done to him whatever they wanted to, even as it is written about him."

14 Coming to the disciples, he saw a great multitude around them, and scribes questioning them. 15 Immediately all the multitude, when they saw him, were greatly amazed, and running to him, greeted him. 16 He asked the scribes, "What are you asking them?"

17 One of the multitude answered, "Teacher, I brought to you my son, who has a mute spirit; 18 and wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; and he foams at the mouth, grinds his teeth, and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they weren’t able."

19 He answered him, "Unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to me."

20 They brought him to him, and when he saw him, immediately the spirit convulsed him and he fell on the ground, wallowing and foaming at the mouth.

21 He asked his father, "How long has it been since this has been happening to him?"

He said, "From childhood. 22 Often it has cast him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us."

23 Jesus said to him, "If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes."

24 Immediately the father of the child cried out with tears, "I believe. Help my unbelief!"

25 When Jesus saw that a multitude came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to him, "You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him, and never enter him again!"

26 After crying out and convulsing him greatly, it came out of him. The boy became like one dead, so much that most of them said, "He is dead." 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and raised him up; and he arose.

28 When he had come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, "Why couldn’t we cast it out?"

29 He said to them, "This kind can come out by nothing but by prayer and fasting."

30 They went out from there and passed through Galilee. He didn’t want anyone to know it, 31 for he was teaching his disciples, and said to them, "The Son of Man is being handed over to the hands of men, and they will kill him; and when he is killed, on the third day he will rise again."

32 But they didn’t understand the saying, and were afraid to ask him.

33 He came to Capernaum, and when he was in the house he asked them, "What were you arguing among yourselves on the way?"

34 But they were silent, for they had disputed with one another on the way about who was the greatest.

35 He sat down and called the twelve; and he said to them, "If any man wants to be first, he shall be last of all, and servant of all." 36 He took a little child and set him in the middle of them. Taking him in his arms, he said to them, 37 "Whoever receives one such little child in my name receives me; and whoever receives me, doesn’t receive me, but him who sent me."

38 John said to him, "Teacher, we saw someone who doesn’t follow us casting out demons in your name; and we forbade him, because he doesn’t follow us."

39 But Jesus said, "Don’t forbid him, for there is no one who will do a mighty work in my name and be able quickly to speak evil of me. 40 For whoever is not against us is on our side. 41 For whoever will give you a cup of water to drink in my name because you are Christ’s, most certainly I tell you, he will in no way lose his reward.

42 "Whoever will cause one of these little ones who believe in me to stumble, it would be better for him if he were thrown into the sea with a millstone hung around his neck. 43 If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having your two hands to go into Gehenna, *9:43 or, Hell into the unquenchable fire, 44 ‘where their worm doesn’t die, and the fire is not quenched.’ ✝9:44 Isaiah 66:24*9:44 NU omits verse 44. 45 If your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life lame, rather than having your two feet to be cast into Gehenna, *9:45 or, Hell into the fire that will never be quenched— 46 ‘where their worm doesn’t die, and the fire is not quenched.’ *9:46 NU omits verse 46. 47 If your eye causes you to stumble, throw it out. It is better for you to enter into God’s Kingdom with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into the Gehenna*9:47 or, Hell of fire, 48 ‘where their worm doesn’t die, and the fire is not quenched.’ ✝9:48 Isaiah 66:24 49 For everyone will be salted with fire, and every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt. 50 Salt is good, but if the salt has lost its saltiness, with what will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another."

Jesus visar sin härlighet

Vi kan göra tre hyddor: en åt dig, en åt Mose och en åt Elia." 6 Han visste inte vad han skulle säga, så skräckslagna var de. 7 *Matt 3:17, Mark 1:11, 2 Petr 1:16f. Då kom ett moln och sänkte sig över dem, och ur molnet hördes en röst: "Han är min älskade Son. Lyssna till honom!" 8 Och plötsligt, när de såg sig omkring, såg de inte längre någon där utom Jesus.

9 *Matt 17:9f, Mark 8:30, Luk 9:36. På vägen ner från berget befallde han dem att inte berätta för någon vad de hade sett förrän Människosonen uppstått från de döda. 10 De tog fasta på det ordet och diskuterade med varandra vad som menades med att uppstå från de döda.

11 Och de frågade honom: "Varför säger då de skriftlärda att Elia först måste komma*9:11Elia först måste kommaEnligt Mal 4:5f skulle Elia omvända folket inför Messias ankomst. Jesus förklarar att profetian är uppfylld genom Johannes Döparen (jfr Matt 11:13, Luk 1:17).?" 12 *Ps 22:2f, Jes 53:3f. Han sade till dem: "Elia kommer först och återupprättar allt. Jesus botar en pojke med stum ande

14 När de kom till de andra lärjungarna, såg de mycket folk omkring dem och skriftlärda som diskuterade med dem. 15 Så snart allt folket fick se Jesus, blev de förundrade och skyndade fram och hälsade på honom. 16 Han frågade dem: "Vad är det ni diskuterar?"

17 *Matt 17:14f, Luk 9:38f. En i folkskaran svarade honom: "Mästare, jag har kommit till dig med min son som har en stum ande. 18 Var den än får tag i honom slår den omkull honom, och han tuggar fradga och gnisslar tänder och blir stel. Jag bad dina lärjungar driva ut den, men de kunde inte." 19 Jesus svarade dem: "Detta släkte som inte vill tro! Hur länge ska jag vara hos er? Hur länge ska jag stå ut med er? Hämta honom till mig." 20 *Mark 1:26. Och de kom med honom till Jesus.

Så snart anden fick se honom slet den och ryckte i pojken, och han föll till marken och vred sig och tuggade fradga. 21 Jesus frågade hans far: "Hur länge har det varit så med honom?" Fadern svarade: "Sedan han var barn. 22 Ofta har den kastat honom i elden och i vattnet för att ta livet av honom. Men om du kan, så förbarma dig över oss och hjälp oss!" 23 *Mark 11:23, Luk 17:6. Jesus sade till honom: "Om du kan? Allt är möjligt för den som tror." 24 Genast ropade barnets far: "Jag tror. Hjälp min otro!"

25 Jesus såg att folk strömmade till, och han sade strängt till den orena anden: "Du stumma och döva ande, jag befaller dig: far ut ur honom och kom aldrig mer in i honom!" 26 Anden skrek och ryckte våldsamt i honom och for ut. Pojken var som livlös, och de flesta sade att han var död. 27 Men Jesus tog hans hand och reste upp honom, och han stod upp.

28 *Matt 17:19f. När Jesus hade kommit inomhus och lärjungarna var ensamma med honom, frågade de: "Varför kunde inte vi driva ut den?" 29 Han svarade: "Den sorten kan bara drivas ut med bön."*9:29med bönAndra handskrifter: "med bön och fasta".

Jesus talar än en gång om sitt lidande

30 *Matt 17:22f. Sedan gick de vidare därifrån och vandrade genom Galileen. Jesus ville inte att någon skulle få veta det, 31 *Mark 8:31, 10:32f, Luk 9:44f, 18:31f. eftersom han höll på att undervisa sina lärjungar. Han sade till dem: "Människosonen ska utlämnas i människors händer, och de kommer att döda honom. Men tre dagar efter*9:31tre dagar efterI judisk tideräkning liktydigt med den tredje dagen (jfr 1 Kung 12:5, 12), eftersom startpunkten räknades som dag ett och inte dag noll (jfr 3 Mos 19:6). sin död ska han uppstå." 32 Men de förstod inte vad han menade och vågade inte fråga honom.

Vem är störst?

33 *Matt 18:1f, Luk 9:46f. De kom till Kapernaum. När Jesus nu var hemma, frågade han dem: "Vad var det ni talade om på vägen?" 34 Men de teg, för på vägen hade de talat med varandra om vem som var den störste. 35 *Matt 20:26f, Mark 10:43f, Luk 22:26. Jesus satte sig ner, kallade på de tolv och sade till dem: "Om någon vill vara den förste, så ska han vara den siste av alla och allas tjänare."

36 *Mark 10:16. Sedan tog han ett litet barn och ställde det mitt ibland dem, omfamnade det och sade till dem: 37 *Matt 10:40, Joh 13:20. "Den som tar emot ett sådant barn i mitt namn tar emot mig. Och den som tar emot mig, tar inte emot mig utan honom som har sänt mig."

Inte mot oss utan för oss

38 *4 Mos 11:27f, Luk 9:49f. Johannes sade till Jesus: "Mästare, vi såg en man som drev ut onda andar i ditt namn, och vi försökte hindra honom eftersom han inte följde oss." 39 *1 Kor 12:3. Men Jesus sade: "Hindra honom inte. Ingen som gör en kraftgärning i mitt namn kan sedan genast tala illa om mig. 40 *Matt 12:30. Den som inte är mot oss är för oss. 41 *Matt 10:42. Den som ger er en bägare vatten att dricka därför att ni tillhör Kristus – jag säger er sanningen: Han ska inte gå miste om sin lön.

Frestelser och förförelser

42 *Matt 18:6f, Luk 17:1f. Den som förleder en av dessa små som tror på mig, för honom vore det bättre att få en kvarnsten hängd om halsen och bli kastad i havet. 43 Om din hand förleder dig till synd, så hugg av den! Det är bättre att du går in i livet stympad än att du har båda händerna kvar och hamnar i Gehenna*9:43GehennaHebreiska för Hinnomsdalen, där avgudadyrkare en gång offrade barn i eld (2 Kung 23:10). I NT en bild för domens eviga eld (Matt 5:22, 10:28)., i elden som aldrig slocknar. 45 Och om din fot förleder dig till synd, så hugg av den! Det är bättre att du går in i livet halt än att du har båda fötterna kvar och kastas i Gehenna. 47 Och om ditt öga förleder dig till synd, så riv ut det! Det är bättre att du går in i Guds rike enögd än att du har båda ögonen kvar och kastas i Gehenna, 48 *Jes 66:24. där deras mask inte dör och elden inte släcks.*9:48 Jes 66:24. 49 Var och en ska saltas med eld*9:49saltas med eldSenare handskrifter tillägger: "och varje offer ska saltas med salt". Tempeloffren helgades med salt innan de förbrändes på altaret (3 Mos 2:13).. 50 *Matt 5:13, Luk 14:34, Kol 4:6. Salt är bra, men om saltet förlorar sin sälta, hur ska ni då få det salt igen? Ha salt i er och håll fred med varandra!"
