2 Disse comigo mesmo: "Velarei sobre os meus atos, para não mais pecar com a língua. Porei um freio em meus lábios, enquanto o ímpio estiver diante de mim".

3 Fiquei mudo, mas sem resultado, porque minha dor recrudesceu.

4 Meu coração se abrasava dentro de mim, meu pensamento se acendia como um fogo. Então, eu me pus a falar:

5 "Fazei-me conhecer, Senhor, o meu fim, e o número de meus dias, para que eu veja como sou efêmero.

6 A largura da mão: eis a medida de meus dias, diante de vós minha vida é como um nada; todo homem não é mais que um sopro".

7 De fato, o homem passa como uma sombra, é em vão que ele se agita; amontoa, sem saber quem recolherá.

8 E agora, Senhor, que posso esperar? Minha confiança está em vós.

9 Livrai-me de todas as faltas, não me abandoneis ao riso dos insensatos.

10 Calei-me, já não abro a boca, porque sois vós que operais.

11 Afastai de mim esse flagelo, pois sucumbo ao rigor de vossa mão.

12 Quando punis o homem, fazendo-lhe sentir a sua culpa, consumis, como o faria a traça, o que ele tem de mais caro. Verdadeiramente, apenas um sopro é o homem.

13 Ouvi, Senhor, a minha oração, escutai os meus clamores, não fiqueis insensível às minhas lágrimas. Diante de vós não sou mais que um viajor, um peregrino, como foram os meus pais.

14 Afastai de mim a vossa ira para que eu tome alento, antes que me vá para não mais voltar.

A Psalm of David, to bring to remembrance.

1 O LORD, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.

2 For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore.

3 There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.*38.3 rest: Heb. peace, or, health

4 For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

5 My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness.

8 I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart.

9 Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee.

13 But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.

14 Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.
