1 E aconteceu que, partindo deles, navegando em curso reto, chegamos a Cós e, no dia seguinte até Rodes, e dali para Pátara;
2 e, encontrando um navio que ia para a Fenícia, embarcamos nele e partimos.
3 E, avistando a Chipre, deixando-a à esquerda, navegamos para a Síria e chegamos a Tiro; porque o navio descarregaria sua carga ali.
4 E, tendo encontrado os discípulos, permanecemos ali por sete dias; os quais, diziam a Paulo, pelo Espírito, para que ele não subisse para Jerusalém.
5 E, havendo passado ali aqueles dias, saímos e seguimos nosso caminho, e todos eles nos acompanharam, com esposas e filhos, até estarmos fora da cidade. E, tendo-nos ajoelhado na praia, oramos.
6 E, despedindo-nos uns dos outros, subimos ao navio; e eles retornaram para casa novamente.
7 E quando finalizamos o nosso percurso desde Tiro, viemos a Ptolemaida; e, saudando os irmãos, permanecemos um dia com eles.
8 E no dia seguinte, nós que estávamos na companhia de Paulo partimos e chegamos a Cesareia; e, entrando na casa de Filipe, o evangelista, que era um dos sete, permanecemos com ele.
9 E este mesmo homem tinha quatro filhas virgens, que profetizavam.
10 E, demorando-nos ali por muitos dias, desceu da Judeia um certo profeta, por nome Ágabo.
11 E, vindo ter conosco, tomando o cinto de Paulo, e amarrando as suas próprias mãos e pés, disse: Isto diz o Espírito Santo: O homem ao qual pertence este cinto, assim será amarrado em Jerusalém pelos judeus, e será entregue nas mãos dos gentios.
12 E quando ouvimos estas coisas, tanto nós quanto os do lugar, rogamos-lhe que não subisse para Jerusalém.
13 Então Paulo respondeu: Por que chorais e quebrantais o meu coração? Porque eu estou pronto não somente para ser preso, mas também para morrer em Jerusalém pelo nome do Senhor Jesus.
14 E, como não podíamos persuadi-lo, nos aquietamos, dizendo: A vontade do Senhor seja feita.
15 E depois destes dias, arrumamos nossas bagagens e subimos para Jerusalém.
16 E foram também conosco certos discípulos de Cesareia, levando consigo um certo Mnasom, de Chipre, discípulo antigo, com o qual ficaríamos hospedados.
17 E, chegando a Jerusalém, os irmãos nos receberam de boa vontade.
18 E no dia seguinte Paulo foi conosco até Tiago, e todos os anciãos estavam presentes.
19 E, tendo-os saudado, declarou-lhes particularmente as coisas que Deus fizera entre os gentios por seu ministério.
20 E, ouvindo-o eles, glorificaram ao Senhor e disseram-lhe: Vês, irmão, os milhares de judeus que têm crido, e todos são zelosos da lei;
21 e eles foram informados acerca de ti, que tu ensinas todos os judeus que estão entre os gentios para abandonarem Moisés, dizendo que eles não devem circuncidar seus filhos, nem andar segundo nossos costumes.
22 Que faremos, pois? A multidão necessita reunir-se; porque eles ouviram que tu chegaste.
23 Faze, pois, isto que te dizemos: Nós temos quatro homens que têm um voto sobre eles;
24 toma estes contigo, e purifica-te com eles, e paga seus gastos para que se raspem a cabeça, e todos ficarão sabendo que as coisas de que foram informados acerca de ti não são nada, mas que tu também andas ordenadamente, guardando a lei.
25 Mas, quanto aos que creram dentre os gentios, nós escrevemos e concluímos que eles não observem tal coisa, mas que só se guardem das coisas oferecidas aos ídolos, e do sangue, e do estrangulado, e da fornicação.
26 Então, Paulo tomando os homens, no dia seguinte se purificou com eles e entrava no templo para informar do cumprimento dos dias da purificação, até que foi oferecida a oferta por cada um deles.
27 Quando os sete dias estavam para se cumprir, os judeus que eram da Ásia, vendo-o no templo, alvoroçaram todas as pessoas e lançaram mão dele,
28 gritando: Homens de Israel, socorro! Este é o homem que por todas as partes ensina a todos homens contra o povo, a lei e este lugar! E além disso trouxe os gregos para dentro do templo, e profanou este santo lugar.
29 (Porque tinham visto com ele na cidade a Trófimo, um efésio, supondo que Paulo o tivesse conduzido para dentro do templo).
30 E toda a cidade ficou agitada, e as pessoas corriam juntas; e, eles tomando Paulo, o arrastaram para fora do templo, e imediatamente fecharam-se as portas.
31 E, enquanto eles iam para matá-lo, a notícia chegou até o tribuno da coorte, que Jerusalém inteira estava alvoroçada.
32 O qual, imediatamente, tomando consigo soldados e centuriões, correu até eles. E, quando viram o tribuno e os soldados, eles pararam de ferir a Paulo.
33 Então, aproximando-se o tribuno, o tomou, e o mandou atar com duas correntes, e lhe perguntou quem ele era e o que tinha feito.
34 E, entre a multidão, uns clamavam de uma maneira; outros, de outra; e quando ele não podia saber a certeza para o tumulto, ele ordenou que fosse levado para a fortaleza.
35 Mas, chegando às escadas, aconteceu dele ser carregado pelos soldados, devido à violência da multidão.
36 Porque a multidão do povo o seguia gritando: Fora com ele!
37 E, quando iam conduzindo Paulo para a fortaleza, ele disse ao tribuno: Eu posso falar contigo? E ele disse: Tu consegues falar grego?
38 Não és tu aquele egípcio que antes destes dias fez um alvoroço e levou ao deserto quatro mil homens que eram assassinos?
39 Mas Paulo lhe disse: Eu sou um homem judeu cidadão de Tarso, da Cilícia, cidade não insignificante, e peço-te que me permitas falar ao povo.
40 E quando lhe deram permissão, Paulo, de pé nas escadas, acenou com a mão ao povo; e, feito um grande silêncio, falou-lhes em língua hebraica, dizendo:
1 And it happened when it was time to sail, we having been torn away from them, running direct we came to Cos; and on the next [day] to Rhodes, and from there to Patara.
2 And finding a ship sailing over to Phoenicia, going on board, we set sail.
3 And sighting Cyprus, and leaving it on the left, we sailed into Syria, and came down to Tyre. For the ship was to unload its cargo there.
4 And finding disciples, we stayed there seven days; who said to Paul through the Spirit that he should not go up to Jerusalem.
5 But when it was [time to] finish the days, going out, we traveled on. [And they] with all [the] women and children went with us as far as outside the city. And we kneeled down on the shore and prayed.
6 And giving parting greetings to one another, we went up into the ship; and they returned to their own things.
7 And finishing the voyage from Tyre, we came to Ptolemais. And greeting the brothers, we stayed with them one day.
8 And the next [day] those around [him] going out, Paul came to Caesarea. And entering the house of Philip the evangelist, [he] being of the seven, we stayed with him.
9 And there were four virgin daughters to this one, who prophesied.
10 And as we stayed more days, a certain prophet from Judea named Agabus came down.
11 And coming to us, and taking Paul's belt, and binding his hands and feet, he said, The Holy Spirit says these [things]: So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man whose belt this is, and will deliver [him] into the hands of the] nations.
12 And when we heard these things, both we and those of [the] place begged him not to go up to Jerusalem.
13 Then Paul answered, What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.
14 And he not being persuaded, we ceased, saying, The will of the Lord be [done].
15 And after those days, making ready, we went up to Jerusalem.
16 Also [some] of the disciples from Caesarea went with us, bringing Mnason, a certain Cypriot, an old disciple with whom we were to lodge.
17 And we being in Jerusalem, the brothers received us gladly.
18 And on the next [day] Paul went with us to James. And all the elders were present.
19 And having greeted them, he related one by one what things God had done among the nations by his ministry.
20 And hearing, they glorified the Lord, and said to him, You see, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are who believe, and they are all zealous of the law.
21 And they are informed concerning you, that you teach all the Jews who are among the nations to forsake Moses, saying that they ought not to circumcise [their] children, nor to walk after the customs.
22 What is it therefore? At all events a multitude will come together, for they will hear that you have come.
23 Therefore do this, what we say to you: We have four men who have a vow on themselves;
24 taking them, be purified with them, and be at expense for them, so that they may shave [their] heads. And all may know that what they have been told about you is nothing, but you yourself also walk orderly and keep the Law.
25 And as to the nations who believe, we joined in writing, judging them to observe no such things, except only that they keep themselves from both idol sacrifice, and blood, and a thing strangled, and [from] fornication.
26 Then taking the men on the next day, being purified with them, Paul went into the temple, declaring the fulfillment of the days of the purification, until an offering should be offered for each of them.
27 And when the seven days were about to be completed, the Jews who were from Asia, having seen him in the temple, stirred up all the crowd and laid hands on him,
28 crying out, Men, Israelites, help! This is the man who teaches all everywhere against the people and the Law and this place. And even he brought Greeks into the temple and has polluted this holy place.
29 (For they had seen Trophimus the Ephesian with him in the city before, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.)
30 And all the city was moved, and the people ran together. And laying hands on Paul, they drew him outside of the temple. And immediately the doors were shut.
31 And as they [were] seeking to kill him, the news came to the chiliarch of the cohort, that all Jerusalem was in an uproar.
32 [He] immediately took soldiers and centurions, and ran down to them. And seeing the chiliarch and the soldiers, they quit beating Paul.
33 Then going near, the chiliarch laid hold on him, and commanded [him] to be bound with two chains. And [he] demanded who he was and what he had done.
34 And others cried something else in the crowd, and not being able to know the certainty on account of the uproar, he commanded him to be carried into the fortress.
35 And when he came on the stairs, it happened that he was carried by the soldiers, because of the violence of the crowd.
36 For the multitude of the people followed after, crying, Away with him!
37 And as Paul was about to be led into the fortress, he said to the chiliarch, Is it lawful for me to say a thing to you? And he said, Do you know Greek?
38 Then are you not the Egyptian who before these days caused a riot, and led four thousand men of the assassins out into the wilderness?
39 But Paul said, I am a man, a Jew of Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen [of] no small city. And I beseech you, allow me to speak to the people.
40 And he allowing him, standing on the stairs, Paul signaled with [his] hand to the people. And much silence taking place, he spoke in the Hebrew dialect, saying:
