1 — Se na terra que o Senhor, seu Deus, lhes dá para que tomem posse dela, alguém for achado morto, caído no campo, sem que se saiba quem o matou, 2 os anciãos e os juízes devem sair e medir a distância entre o morto e as cidades ao redor. 3 Os anciãos da cidade mais próxima do morto tomarão uma novilha do rebanho, que ainda não tenha sido usada no trabalho, nem puxado com o jugo, 4 e a trarão a um vale de águas correntes, que não foi lavrado, nem semeado; e ali, naquele vale, desnucarão a novilha. 5 Então se aproximarão os sacerdotes, filhos de Levi, porque o Senhor, o Deus de vocês, os escolheu para o servirem, para abençoarem em nome do Senhor e, por sua palavra, decidirem toda demanda e todo caso de violência. 6 Todos os anciãos dessa cidade mais próxima do morto lavarão as mãos sobre a novilha desnucada no vale 7 e dirão: "As nossas mãos não derramaram este sangue, e os nossos olhos não viram quem o derramou. 8 Perdoa o teu povo de Israel, que tu, ó Senhor, resgataste, e não ponhas a culpa do sangue inocente no meio do teu povo de Israel." E a culpa daquele sangue lhe será perdoada. 9 Assim vocês eliminarão a culpa do sangue inocente do meio de vocês, pois farão o que é reto aos olhos do Senhor.

10 Quando vocês saírem para fazer guerra aos seus inimigos, e o Senhor, seu Deus, os entregar nas suas mãos e vocês fizerem prisioneiros de guerra, 11 se algum de vocês vir entre eles uma mulher bonita, gostar dela e quiser tomá-la por esposa, 12 deve levá-la para casa, onde ela rapará a cabeça, cortará as unhas, 13 e trocará a roupa que estava usando ao ser capturada. Ela permanecerá em casa e ficará de luto pelo pai e pela mãe durante um mês. Depois disto você pode tomá-la; você será o seu marido e ela será a sua mulher. 14 E, se você não gostar mais dela, deixe que ela vá para onde quiser. Você não pode vendê-la por dinheiro nem maltratá-la, porque a humilhou.

15 — Se um homem tiver duas mulheres, uma a quem ama e outra a quem não ama, e as duas lhe derem filhos, e o primogênito for da que ele não ama, 16 no dia em que repartir a herança entre os filhos, não poderá dar a primogenitura ao filho da amada, preferindo-o ao filho da que ele não ama e que é de fato o primogênito. 17 Pelo contrário, deve reconhecer por primogênito o filho da mulher que ele não ama, dando-lhe dobrada porção de tudo o que possuir, porque aquele é o primogênito do seu vigor; o direito da primogenitura é dele.

18 — Se alguém tiver um filho teimoso e rebelde, que não obedece à voz de seu pai nem à voz de sua mãe e, mesmo quando castigado, não lhes dá ouvidos, 19 seu pai e sua mãe o pegarão e o levarão aos anciãos da cidade, junto ao portão daquele lugar, 20 e dirão: "Este nosso filho é rebelde e teimoso, não dá ouvidos à nossa voz, é comilão e beberrão." 21 Então todos os homens da cidade o apedrejarão até que morra. Assim vocês eliminarão o mal do meio de vocês; todo o Israel ouvirá e temerá.

22 — Se alguém tiver cometido um pecado que é passível da pena de morte, e tiver sido morto, e vocês o pendurarem num madeiro, 23 o seu cadáver não deve permanecer no madeiro durante a noite. É preciso sepultá-lo no mesmo dia, pois o que for pendurado no madeiro é maldito de Deus. Assim vocês não contaminarão a terra que o Senhor, seu Deus, lhes dá por herança.

1 If a man is found slain in the land which LORD thy God gives thee to possess it, lying in the field, and it not be known who has smitten him,2 then thy elders and thy judges shall come forth. And they shall measure to the cities which are round about him who is slain,3 and it shall be, that the city which is nearest to the slain man, even the elders of that city shall take a heifer of the herd, which has not been worked with, and which has not drawn in the yoke,4 and the elders of that city shall bring down the heifer to a valley with running water, which is neither plowed nor sown, and shall break the heifer's neck there in the valley.5 And the priests the sons of Levi shall come near, for LORD thy God has chosen them to minister to him, and to bless in the name of LORD, and according to their word shall every controversy and every stroke be.6 And all the elders of that city, who are nearest to the slain man, shall wash their hands over the heifer whose neck was broken in the valley,7 and they shall answer and say, Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it.8 Forgive, O LORD, thy people Israel whom thou have redeemed, and allow no innocent blood [to remain] in the midst of thy people Israel. And the blood shall be forgiven them.9 So shall thou put away the innocent blood from the midst of thee when thou shall do that which is right in the eyes of LORD.10 When thou go forth to battle against thine enemies, and LORD thy God delivers them into thy hands, and thou carry them away captive,11 and see among the captives a beautiful woman, and thou have a desire for her, and would take her to thee to wife,12 then thou shall bring her home to thy house. And she shall shave her head, and pare her nails,13 and she shall put the raiment of her captivity from off her, and shall remain in thy house, and bewail her father and her mother a full month. And after that thou shall go in to her, and be her husband, and she shall be thy wife.14 And it shall be, if thou have no delight in her, then thou shall let her go where she will, but thou shall not sell her at all for money. Thou shall not deal with her as a slave, because thou have humbled her.15 If a man has two wives, the one beloved, and the other regarded inferior, and they have borne him sons, both the beloved and the one regarded inferior, and if the first-born son be hers who was regarded inferior,16 then it shall be, in the day that he causes his sons to inherit that which he has, that he may not make the son of the beloved the first-born before the son of the one regarded inferior, who is the first-born.17 But he shall acknowledge the first-born, the son of the one regarded inferior, by giving him a double portion of all that he has, for he is the beginning of his strength. The right of the first-born is his.18 If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son, who will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and, though they chasten him, will not hearken to them,19 then his father and his mother shall lay hold on him, and bring him out to the elders of his city, and to the gate of his place.20 And they shall say to the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice. He is a glutton, and a drunkard.21 And all the men of his city shall stone him to death with stones. So thou shall put away the evil from the midst of thee, and all Israel shall hear, and fear.22 And if a man has committed a sin worthy of death, and he be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree,23 his body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shall surely bury him the same day, for he who is hanged is accursed of God, that thou not defile thy land which LORD thy God gives thee for an inheritance.
