1 — Se aparecer no meio de vocês um profeta ou sonhador e anunciar um sinal ou prodígio, 2 e se acontecer esse sinal ou prodígio de que ele falou, e ele disser: "Vamos seguir e adorar outros deuses", deuses esses que vocês não conheceram, 3 não deem ouvidos às palavras desse profeta ou sonhador. Porque o Senhor, seu Deus, está pondo vocês à prova, para saber se vocês amam o Senhor, seu Deus, de todo o coração e de toda a alma. 4 Sigam o Senhor, seu Deus, e temam somente a ele. Guardem os seus mandamentos, deem ouvidos à sua voz, sirvam-no e sejam fiéis a ele. 5 Esse profeta ou sonhador será morto, pois pregou rebeldia contra o Senhor, o Deus de vocês, que os tirou da terra do Egito e os resgatou da casa da servidão. Esse profeta ou sonhador quis afastá-los do caminho que o Senhor, seu Deus, lhes ordenou, para que andassem nele. Assim eliminarão o mal do meio de vocês.

6 — Caso se aproximar de você o seu irmão, filho de sua mãe, ou o seu filho, ou a sua filha, ou a mulher que você ama, ou um amigo íntimo, e, em segredo, disser: "Vamos servir outros deuses", deuses que você não conhecia e que nem os seus pais conheceram, 7 deuses dos povos que estão ao redor de você, tanto os que estão perto como os que estão longe, desde uma até a outra extremidade da terra, 8 não concorde com ele, nem dê ouvidos a ele. Não olhe para ele com piedade, não o poupe, nem o esconda; 9 pelo contrário, você certamente o matará. Você será o primeiro a levantar a mão contra ele, para o matar, e depois todo o povo levantará a mão contra ele. 10 Vocês devem apedrejá-lo até que morra, porque ele procurou afastá-los do Senhor, seu Deus, que os tirou da terra do Egito, da casa da servidão. 11 E todo o Israel ouvirá e temerá, e não se tornará a praticar maldade como esta no meio de vocês.

12 — Se em alguma das cidades que o Senhor, seu Deus, lhes dá para morar vocês ouvirem dizer 13 que homens malignos saíram do meio de vocês e incitaram os moradores da cidade, dizendo: "Vamos servir outros deuses", deuses que vocês não conheceram, 14 então vocês devem inquirir, investigar e perguntar com diligência. E eis que, se for verdade e certo que tal abominação foi praticada no meio de vocês, 15 então certamente vocês deverão matar a fio de espada os moradores daquela cidade, destruindo-a completamente e tudo o que nela houver, até os animais. 16 Depois ajuntem todo o seu despojo no meio da praça e queimem a cidade e todo o seu despojo como oferta total ao Senhor, seu Deus. E a cidade ficará um montão de ruínas para sempre; nunca mais deverá ser edificada. 17 Também nada do que for condenado deverá ficar nas mãos de vocês, para que o Senhor se afaste do furor da sua ira, seja misericordioso, e tenha piedade de vocês, e os multiplique, como jurou aos pais de vocês. 18 Isto se vocês ouvirem a voz do Senhor, seu Deus, e guardarem todos os seus mandamentos que hoje lhes ordeno, para que façam o que é reto aos olhos do Senhor, seu Deus.

1 If there arise in the midst of thee a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and he gives thee a sign or a wonder,2 and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou have not known, and let us serve them,3 thou shall not hearken to the words of that prophet, or to that dreamer of dreams, for LORD your God proves you, to know whether ye love LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.4 Ye shall walk after LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cling to him.5 And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death, because he has spoken rebellion against LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed thee out of the house of bondage, to draw thee aside6 If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, who is as thine own soul, entices thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou have not known, thou,7 of the gods of the peoples that are round about you, near to thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth,8 thou shall not consent to him, nor hearken to him. Neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shall thou spare, neither shall thou conceal him,9 but thou shall surely kill him. Thy hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people.10 And thou shall stone him to death with stones, because he has sought to draw thee away from LORD thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.11 And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall no more do any such wickedness as this is in the midst of thee.12 If thou shall hear tell concerning one of thy cities, which LORD thy God gives thee to dwell there, saying,13 Certain base fellows have gone out from the midst of thee, and have drawn away the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known,14 then thou shall inquire, and make search, and ask diligently. And, behold, if it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in the midst of thee,15 thou shall surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that is in it, and the cattle in it, with the edge of the sword.16 And thou shall gather all the spoil of it into the midst of the street of it, and shall burn the city with fire, and all the spoil of it, every whit, to LORD thy God, and it shall be a heap forever. It shall not be built again.17 And nothing of the devoted thing shall cling to thy hand, that LORD may turn from the fierceness of his anger, and show thee mercy, and have compassion upon thee, and multiply thee, as he has sworn to thy fathers,18 when thou shall hearken to the voice of LORD thy God, to keep all his commandments which I command thee this day, to do that which is right in the eyes of LORD thy God.
