1 — Agora, pois, ó Israel, ouça os estatutos e os juízos que eu lhes ensino, para que vocês os cumpram, para que vivam, entrem e tomem posse da terra que o Senhor, o Deus de seus pais, está dando a vocês. 2 Não acrescentem nada à palavra que eu lhes ordeno, nem diminuam nada dela, para que vocês guardem os mandamentos do Senhor, o Deus de vocês, que eu lhes ordeno. 3 Com os seus próprios olhos vocês viram o que o Senhor fez por causa de Baal-Peor, pois o Senhor, seu Deus, eliminou do meio de vocês todos os que seguiram Baal-Peor. 4 Porém vocês que permaneceram fiéis ao Senhor, seu Deus, todos hoje estão vivos.

5 — Eis que eu lhes tenho ensinado estatutos e juízos, como o Senhor, meu Deus, me ordenou, para que vocês os cumpram na terra que passarão a possuir. 6 Portanto, guardem e cumpram essas leis, porque isto será a sabedoria e o entendimento de vocês aos olhos dos povos que, ouvindo todos esses estatutos, dirão: "De fato, este grande povo é gente sábia e inteligente." 7 Pois que grande nação há que tenha deuses tão chegados a si como o Senhor, nosso Deus, todas as vezes que o invocamos? 8 E que grande nação há que tenha estatutos e juízos tão justos como toda esta lei que hoje eu lhes proponho?

9 — Tão somente tenham cuidado e guardem bem a sua alma, para que vocês não se esqueçam daquelas coisas que os seus olhos têm visto, e elas não se afastem do seu coração todos os dias da sua vida. Vocês também contarão isso aos seus filhos e aos filhos dos seus filhos. 10 Não se esqueçam do dia em que vocês estiveram diante do Senhor, seu Deus, em Horebe, quando o Senhor me disse: "Reúna este povo, e os farei ouvir as minhas palavras, a fim de que aprendam a temer-me durante todos os dias em que viverem na terra e também as ensinem aos seus filhos."

11 — Então vocês chegaram e ficaram ao pé do monte. E o monte estava em chamas que subiam até o céu, e havia trevas, nuvens e escuridão. 12 Então o Senhor falou a vocês do meio do fogo e vocês ouviram o som das palavras dele. Vocês ouviram a voz, mas não viram aparência nenhuma; só escutaram a voz. 13 Então ele anunciou a sua aliança, que ordenou a vocês, os dez mandamentos, e os escreveu em duas tábuas de pedra. 14 Ao mesmo tempo o Senhor ordenou que eu ensinasse a vocês estatutos e juízos, para que os cumprissem na terra que passarão a possuir.

15 — Tenham cuidado! Guardem bem a sua alma. Porque vocês não viram aparência nenhuma no dia em que o Senhor, o Deus de vocês, lhes falou em Horebe, no meio do fogo. 16 Portanto, tenham cuidado para não se corromperem e fazerem para si alguma imagem esculpida na forma de ídolo, semelhança de homem ou de mulher, 17 semelhança de algum animal que há na terra, semelhança de alguma ave que voa pelos céus, 18 semelhança de algum animal que rasteja sobre a terra, semelhança de algum peixe que há nas águas debaixo da terra. 19 Quando levantarem os olhos para os céus e verem o sol, a lua e as estrelas, a saber, todo o exército dos céus, cuidem para que vocês não sejam seduzidos a inclinar-se diante deles e prestar culto a essas coisas que o Senhor, seu Deus, repartiu a todos os povos debaixo dos céus. 20 Mas quanto a vocês, o Senhor os tomou e os tirou da fornalha de ferro do Egito, para que sejam povo da sua herança, como hoje se vê.

21 — Também o Senhor se indignou contra mim, por causa de vocês, e jurou que eu não passaria o Jordão e não entraria na boa terra que o Senhor, seu Deus, lhes dá por herança. 22 Porque eu morrerei neste lugar; não passarei o Jordão. Mas vocês vão passar o Jordão e possuir aquela boa terra. 23 Tenham o cuidado de não se esquecer da aliança que o Senhor, seu Deus, fez com vocês. Não façam para si nenhuma imagem esculpida, semelhança de alguma coisa que o Senhor, o Deus de vocês, proibiu. 24 Porque o Senhor, o Deus de vocês, é fogo consumidor, é Deus zeloso.

25 — Quando, pois, gerarem filhos e tiverem netos, e já estiverem muito tempo na terra, e se corromperem, e fizerem alguma imagem esculpida, semelhança de alguma coisa, e praticarem o que é mau aos olhos do Senhor, o Deus de vocês, para o provocar à ira, 26 hoje tomo o céu e a terra por testemunhas contra vocês, que vocês serão imediatamente eliminados da terra da qual, passando o Jordão, vocês tomarão posse. Vocês não prolongarão os seus dias nela; pelo contrário, serão totalmente destruídos. 27 O Senhor os espalhará entre os povos, e restarão apenas alguns de vocês entre as gentes aonde o Senhor os levará. 28 Lá, vocês servirão a deuses que são obra de mãos humanas, madeira e pedra, que não veem, nem ouvem, nem comem, nem cheiram. 29 De lá, vocês buscarão o Senhor, seu Deus, e o acharão, quando o buscarem de todo o coração e de toda a sua alma. 30 Quando estiverem em angústia, e todas estas coisas lhes sobrevierem nos últimos dias, e vocês se voltarem para o Senhor, seu Deus, e lhe atenderem a voz, 31 então o Senhor, o Deus de vocês, não os abandonará, porque é Deus misericordioso, nem os destruirá, nem se esquecerá da aliança que jurou aos pais de vocês.

32 — Agora, pois, perguntem aos tempos passados, que transcorreram antes de vocês, desde o dia em que Deus criou o ser humano sobre a terra, desde uma extremidade do céu até a outra, se já aconteceu algo tão grandioso como isto ou se em algum momento se ouviu falar de coisa semelhante. 33 Perguntem se algum povo ouviu a voz de algum deus falando do meio do fogo, como vocês ouviram, e ficaram vivos; 34 ou se já houve um deus que tentou ir tomar para si um povo do meio de outro povo, com provas, com sinais, com milagres, com lutas, com mão poderosa, com braço estendido e com feitos espantosos, segundo tudo o que o Senhor, seu Deus, fez por vocês no Egito, como vocês viram com os seus próprios olhos. 35 Isso foi mostrado a vocês para que soubessem que o Senhor é Deus; nenhum outro há, além dele. 36 Dos céus ele fez com que ouvissem a sua voz, para ensiná-los, e sobre a terra lhes mostrou o seu grande fogo, e do meio do fogo vocês ouviram as suas palavras. 37 Ele amou os pais de vocês e escolheu os seus descendentes depois deles; por isso o Senhor os tirou do Egito com a sua presença e com a sua grande força, 38 para expulsar da frente de vocês nações maiores e mais poderosas do que vocês, para fazer com que vocês entrassem na terra deles e dá-la a vocês por herança, como hoje se vê.

39 — Por isso, hoje vocês saberão e refletirão em seu coração que só o Senhor é Deus em cima no céu e embaixo na terra; não há nenhum outro deus. 40 Portanto, guardem os seus estatutos e os seus mandamentos que hoje lhes ordeno, para que tudo vá bem com vocês e com os seus filhos depois de vocês e para que vocês prolonguem os seus dias na terra que o Senhor, seu Deus, lhes está dando para todo o sempre.

41 Então Moisés separou três cidades além do Jordão, para o nascente do sol, 42 para que ali pudesse se refugiar o homicida que tivesse matado, involuntariamente, o seu próximo, de quem, antes daquilo, não tivesse ódio algum. Esse homicida poderia se refugiar numa destas cidades e salvar a sua vida. 43 As cidades eram Bezer, no deserto, no planalto, para os rubenitas; Ramote, em Gileade, para os gaditas; e Golã, em Basã, para os manassitas.

44 Esta é a lei que Moisés apresentou aos filhos de Israel. 45 São estes os testemunhos, os estatutos e os juízos que Moisés falou aos filhos de Israel, quando saíram do Egito, 46 além do Jordão, no vale diante de Bete-Peor, na terra de Seom, rei dos amorreus, que habitava em Hesbom, a quem Moisés e os filhos de Israel derrotaram quando saíram do Egito, 47 e tomaram posse da terra dele, bem como da terra de Ogue, rei de Basã, dois reis dos amorreus, que estavam além do Jordão, para o nascente do sol. 48 Essas terras se estendiam desde Aroer, que está à beira do vale de Arnom, até o monte Siom, que é Hermom, 49 e incluíam toda a Arabá, além do Jordão, do lado leste, até o mar da Arabá, pelas encostas do monte Pisga.

1 And now, O Israel, hearken to the statutes and to the ordinances, which I teach you, to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which LORD, the God of your fathers, gives you.2 Ye shall not add to the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish from it, that ye may keep the commandments of LORD your God which I command you.3 Your eyes have seen what LORD did because of Baal-peor. For all the men who followed Baal-peor, LORD thy God has destroyed them from the midst of thee.4 But ye who clung to LORD your God are alive every one of you this day.5 Behold, I have taught you statutes and ordinances, even as LORD my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the midst of the land where ye go in to possess it.6 Keep therefore and do them, for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples, who shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.7 For what great nation is there that has a god so near to them, as LORD our God is whenever we call upon him?8 And what great nation is there that has statutes and ordinances so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?9 Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes saw, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life, but make them known to thy sons and thy son's sons--10 the day that thou stood before LORD thy God in Horeb, when LORD said to me, Assemble the people to me, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they live upon the earth, and that they may11 And ye came near and stood under the mountain, and the mountain burned with fire to the heart of heaven, with darkness, cloud, and thick darkness.12 And LORD spoke to you out of the midst of the fire. Ye heard the voice of words, but ye saw no form, only a voice.13 And he declared to you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even the ten commandments. And he wrote them upon two tablets of stone.14 And LORD commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and ordinances, that ye might do them in the land where ye go over to possess it.15 Take ye therefore good heed to yourselves, for ye saw no manner of form on the day that LORD spoke to you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire.16 Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make for you a graven image in the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female,17 the likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the sky,18 the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the water under the earth.19 And lest thou lift up thine eyes to heaven, and when thou see the sun and the moon and the stars, even all the host of heaven, thou be drawn away and worship them, and serve them, which LORD thy God has allotted to all the peoples20 But LORD has taken you, and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, out of Egypt, to be to him a people of inheritance, as at this day.21 Furthermore LORD was angry with me because of you, and swore that I would not go over the Jordan, and that I would not go in to that good land, which LORD thy God gives thee for an inheritance,22 but I must die in this land. I must not go over the Jordan, but ye shall go over, and possess that good land.23 Take heed to yourselves, lest ye forget the covenant of LORD your God, which he made with you, and make you a graven image in the form of anything which LORD thy God has forbidden thee.24 For LORD thy God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.25 When thou shall beget sons, and son's sons, and ye shall have been long in the land, and shall corrupt yourselves, and make a graven image in the form of anything, and shall do that which is evil in the sight of LORD thy God, to pr26 I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that ye shall soon utterly perish from off the land to which ye go over the Jordan to possess it. Ye shall not prolong your days upon it, but shall be utterly destroyed.27 And LORD will scatter you among the peoples, and ye shall be left few in number among the nations where LORD shall lead you away.28 And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.29 But from there ye shall seek LORD thy God. And thou shall find him when thou search after him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.30 When thou are in tribulation, and all these things have come upon thee, in the latter days thou shall return to LORD thy God, and hearken to his voice.31 For LORD thy God is a merciful God. He will not fail thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he swore to them.32 For ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man upon the earth, and from the one end of heaven to the other, whether there has been [anything] as this great thing is, or has been he33 Did a people ever hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as thou have heard, and live?34 Or has God assayed to go and take for him a nation from the midst of [another] nation, by trials, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by an outstretched arm, and by great terrors, according to all that L35 It was shown to thee, that thou might know that LORD he is God. There is none else besides him.36 Out of heaven he made thee to hear his voice, that he might instruct thee. And upon earth he made thee to see his great fire, and thou heard his words out of the midst of the fire.37 And because he loved thy fathers, therefore he chose their seed after them, and brought thee out with his presence, with his great power, out of Egypt,38 to drive out nations from before thee greater and mightier than thou, to bring thee in, to give thee their land for an inheritance, as at this day.39 Know therefore this day, and lay it to thy heart, that LORD he is God in heaven above and upon the earth beneath. There is none else.40 And thou shall keep his statutes, and his commandments, which I command thee this day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy sons after thee, and that thou may prolong thy days in the land, which LORD thy God gives thee, fore41 Then Moses set apart three cities beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise,42 that the manslayer might flee there, who kills his neighbor unawares, and did not hate him in time past, and that fleeing to one of these cities he might live:43 [namely], Bezer in the wilderness, in the plain country, for the Reubenites; and Ramoth in Gilead, for the Gadites; and Golan in Bashan, for the Manassites.44 And this is the law which Moses set before the sons of Israel.45 These are the testimonies, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which Moses spoke to the sons of Israel, when they came forth out of Egypt,46 beyond the Jordan, in the valley opposite Beth-peor, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon, whom Moses and the sons of Israel smote when they came forth out of Egypt.47 And they took his land in possession, and the land of Og king of Bashan, the two kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise,48 from Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, even to mount Sion (the same is Hermon),49 and all the Arabah beyond the Jordan eastward, even to the sea of the Arabah, under the slopes of Pisgah.
