1 — Amem o Senhor, o Deus de vocês, e sempre guardem os seus preceitos, os seus estatutos, os seus juízos e os seus mandamentos. 2 Considerem hoje — e não me dirijo aos filhos de vocês, que não conheceram nem viram a disciplina do Senhor, seu Deus —, sim, considerem a grandeza do Senhor, a sua mão poderosa e o seu braço estendido. 3 Considerem também os sinais e as obras que ele fez no meio do Egito contra Faraó, rei do Egito, e contra toda a sua terra. 4 Também o que ele fez com o exército do Egito, com os seus cavalos e os seus carros de guerra, fazendo passar sobre eles as águas do mar Vermelho, quando estavam perseguindo vocês, e como o Senhor os destruiu até o dia de hoje. 5 Considerem o que ele fez no deserto, até que vocês chegassem a este lugar. 6 E ainda o que ele fez com Datã e Abirão, filhos de Eliabe, filho de Rúben; como a terra abriu a boca e os engoliu, junto com as famílias deles, as tendas e tudo o que os seguia, no meio de todo o Israel. 7 Porque vocês viram com os seus próprios olhos todas as grandes obras que o Senhor fez.

8 — Portanto, guardem todos os mandamentos que hoje lhes ordeno, para que vocês sejam fortes, entrem e tomem posse da terra para onde estão indo, 9 e para que se prolonguem os seus dias na terra que o Senhor, sob juramento, prometeu dar aos pais de vocês e à descendência deles, terra que mana leite e mel. 10 Porque a terra da qual vocês tomarão posse não é como a terra do Egito, de onde vocês saíram, em que semeavam as suas sementes e depois tinham de regar com o pé, como se a plantação fosse uma horta. 11 Mas a terra da qual vocês tomarão posse é terra de montes e de vales, que bebe a água da chuva dos céus. 12 É terra da qual o Senhor, seu Deus, cuida; os olhos do Senhor, Deus de vocês, estão sobre ela continuamente, desde o princípio até o fim do ano.

13 — Se vocês de fato obedecerem aos meus mandamentos que hoje lhes ordeno, de amar o Senhor, seu Deus, e de o servir de todo o coração e de toda a alma, 14 então no devido tempo darei as chuvas que a terra de vocês precisa, tanto as primeiras como as últimas, para que vocês recolham o seu cereal, o vinho e o azeite. 15 Nos campos, darei pasto ao gado, e vocês comerão e se fartarão.

16 — Tenham cuidado para que não aconteça que o coração de vocês se engane, e vocês se desviem, sirvam outros deuses e se prostrem diante deles. 17 Se isso acontecer, a ira do Senhor se acenderá contra vocês, ele fechará o céu para que não chova, a terra não dará a sua colheita, e em pouco tempo vocês serão eliminados da boa terra que o Senhor lhes dá.

18 — Ponham estas minhas palavras no seu coração e na sua alma. Amarrem-nas como sinal na mão, para que sejam por frontal entre os olhos. 19 Ensinem essas palavras aos seus filhos, falando delas quando estiverem sentados em casa, andando pelo caminho, quando se deitarem e quando se levantarem. 20 Devem escrevê-las nos umbrais de sua casa e nas suas portas, 21 para que se multipliquem os seus dias e os dias de seus filhos na terra que o Senhor, sob juramento, prometeu dar aos pais de vocês, e para que esses dias sejam tão numerosos como os dias do céu acima da terra. 22 Porque, se vocês de fato guardarem todos estes mandamentos que lhes ordeno, amando o Senhor, o Deus de vocês, andando em todos os seus caminhos, e sendo fiéis a ele, 23 o Senhor expulsará todas estas nações e vocês tomarão posse de nações maiores e mais poderosas do que vocês. 24 Todo lugar onde puserem a planta do pé, desde o deserto, desde o Líbano, desde o rio, o rio Eufrates, até o mar ocidental, será de vocês. 25 Ninguém poderá resistir a vocês. O Senhor, seu Deus, espalhará o terror e o temor de vocês por toda terra que vocês pisarem, como ele já lhes prometeu.

26 — Eis que hoje eu ponho diante de vocês a bênção e a maldição: 27 a bênção, se cumprirem os mandamentos do Senhor, seu Deus, que hoje eu lhes ordeno; 28 a maldição, se não cumprirem os mandamentos do Senhor, seu Deus, mas se desviarem do caminho que hoje eu lhes ordeno, para seguirem outros deuses que vocês não conheciam. 29 Quando o Senhor, o Deus de vocês, os tiver levado para a terra da qual tomarão posse, vocês pronunciarão a bênção sobre o monte Gerizim e a maldição sobre o monte Ebal. 30 Esses montes estão do outro lado do Jordão, na direção do pôr do sol, na terra dos cananeus, que habitam na Arabá, em frente de Gilgal, junto aos carvalhais de Moré. 31 Porque vocês vão atravessar o Jordão para entrar e tomar posse da terra que o Senhor, seu Deus, está dando a vocês; vocês tomarão posse da terra e vão morar nela. 32 Portanto, tenham o cuidado de cumprir todos os estatutos e juízos que eu hoje lhes prescrevo.

1 Therefore thou shall love LORD thy God, and keep his charge, and his statutes, and his ordinances, and his commandments, always.2 And ye know this day, for [it is] not with your sons who have not known, and who have not seen the chastisement of LORD your God, his greatness, his mighty hand, and his outstretched arm,3 and his signs, and his works, which he did in the midst of Egypt to Pharaoh the king of Egypt, and to all his land,4 and what he did to the army of Egypt, to their horses, and to their chariots, how he made the water of the Red Sea to overflow them as they pursued after you, and how LORD has destroyed them to this day,5 and what he did to you in the wilderness, until ye came to this place,6 and what he did to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, the son of Reuben, how the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up, and their households, and their tents, and every living thing that followed them, in the midst of al7 but your eyes have seen all the great work of LORD which he did.8 Therefore ye shall keep all the commandment which I command thee this day, that ye may be strong, and go in and possess the land, where ye go over to possess it,9 and that ye may prolong your days in the land, which LORD swore to your fathers to give to them and to their seed, a land flowing with milk and honey.10 For the land, where thou go in to possess it, is not as the land of Egypt, from where ye came out, where thou sowed thy seed, and watered it with thy foot, as a garden of herbs,11 but the land, where ye go over to possess it, is a land of hills and valleys, [and] drinks water from the rain of heaven,12 a land which LORD thy God cares for. The eyes of LORD thy God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even to the end of the year.13 And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently to my commandments which I command you this day, to love LORD your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,14 that I will give the rain of your land in its season, the former rain and the latter rain, that thou may gather in thy grain, and thy new wine, and thine oil.15 And I will give grass in thy fields for thy cattle, and thou shall eat and be full.16 Take heed to yourselves, lest your heart be deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them,17 and the anger of LORD be kindled against you, and he shut up the heavens, so that there shall be no rain, and the land shall not yield its fruit, and ye perish quickly from off the good land which LORD gives you.18 Therefore ye shall lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul. And ye shall bind them for a sign upon your hand, and they shall be for frontlets between your eyes.19 And ye shall teach them to your sons, talking of them when thou sit in thy house, and when thou walk by the way, and when thou lay down, and when thou rise up.20 And thou shall write them upon the door-posts of thy house, and upon thy gates,21 that your days may be multiplied, and the days of your sons, in the land which LORD swore to your fathers to give them, as the days of the heavens above the earth.22 For if ye shall diligently keep all this commandment which I command you, to do it, to love LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cling to him,23 then will LORD drive out all these nations from before you, and ye shall dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourselves.24 Every place on which the sole of your foot shall tread shall be yours, from the wilderness, and Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even to the hinder sea shall be your border.25 There shall no man be able to stand before you. LORD your God shall lay the fear of you and the dread of you upon all the land that ye shall tread upon, as he has spoken to you.26 Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse:27 the blessing, if ye shall hearken to the commandments of LORD your God, which I command you this day,28 and the curse, if ye shall not hearken to the commandments of LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day to go after other gods, which ye have not known.29 And it shall come to pass, when LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land where thou go to possess it, that thou shall set the blessing upon mount Gerizim, and the curse upon mount Ebal.30 Are they not beyond the Jordan, behind the way of the going down of the sun, in the land of the Canaanites who dwell in the Arabah, opposite Gilgal, beside the oaks of Moreh?31 For ye are to pass over the Jordan to go in to possess the land which LORD your God gives you, and ye shall possess it, and dwell in it.32 And ye shall observe to do all the statutes and the ordinances which I set before you this day.
