1 — Tenham o cuidado de cumprir todos os mandamentos que hoje lhes ordeno, para que vocês vivam, se multipliquem, entrem e tomem posse da terra que o Senhor prometeu sob juramento aos pais de vocês. 2 Lembrem-se de todo o caminho pelo qual o Senhor, seu Deus, os guiou no deserto durante estes quarenta anos, para humilhar vocês, para pôr vocês à prova, para saber o que estava no coração de vocês, se guardariam ou não os seus mandamentos. 3 Ele humilhou vocês, ele os deixou passar fome, ele os sustentou com o maná, que vocês não conheciam e que nem os pais de vocês conheciam, para que vocês compreendessem que o ser humano não viverá só de pão, mas de tudo o que procede da boca do Senhor. 4 Durante estes quarenta anos, as roupas que vocês usavam não envelheceram, e os seus pés não ficaram inchados. 5 Portanto, saibam em seu coração que, assim como um homem disciplina o seu filho, assim o Senhor, seu Deus, disciplina vocês. 6 Guardem os mandamentos do Senhor, seu Deus, para que vocês andem nos seus caminhos e o temam. 7 Porque o Senhor, o Deus de vocês, os faz entrar numa terra boa, terra de ribeiros de águas, de fontes, de mananciais profundos, que saem dos vales e das montanhas; 8 terra de trigo e cevada, de vinhas, figueiras e romãzeiras; terra de oliveiras, de azeite e mel; 9 terra em que vocês não terão escassez e em que não lhes faltará nada; terra cujas pedras são ferro e de cujos montes vocês extrairão o cobre. 10 Vocês comerão e ficarão satisfeitos, e louvarão o Senhor, seu Deus, pela boa terra que lhes deu.

11 — Tenham o cuidado de não se esquecer do Senhor, seu Deus, deixando de cumprir os seus mandamentos, os seus juízos e os seus estatutos, que hoje lhes ordeno. 12 Não aconteça que, depois de terem comido e estarem fartos, depois de haverem edificado boas casas e morado nelas; 13 depois de se multiplicarem o seu gado e os seus rebanhos, e aumentar a sua prata e o seu ouro, e ser abundante tudo o que vocês têm, 14 se eleve o seu coração e vocês se esqueçam do Senhor, seu Deus, que os tirou da terra do Egito, da casa da servidão, 15 que os conduziu por aquele grande e terrível deserto de serpentes abrasadoras, de escorpiões e de aridez, onde não havia água; e que fez sair água da rocha para vocês beberem; 16 que no deserto os sustentou com maná, que os pais de vocês não conheciam; para humilhar vocês, para pôr vocês à prova e, afinal, lhes fazer bem.

17 — Portanto, não pensem: "A minha força e o poder do meu braço me conseguiram estas riquezas." 18 Pelo contrário, lembrem-se do Senhor, seu Deus, porque é ele quem lhes dá força para conseguir riquezas; para confirmar a sua aliança, que, sob juramento, prometeu aos pais de vocês, como hoje se vê. 19 Se vocês se esquecerem do Senhor, seu Deus, e seguirem outros deuses, os servirem e os adorarem, eu lhes asseguro hoje que vocês certamente serão destruídos. 20 Como as nações que o Senhor destruiu diante de vocês, assim vocês também perecerão, porque não quiseram obedecer à voz do Senhor, seu Deus.

1 All the commandment which I command thee this day ye shall observe to do, that ye may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which LORD swore to your fathers.2 And thou shall remember all the way which LORD thy God has led thee these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble thee, to prove thee, to know what was in thy heart, whether thou would keep his commandments, or not.3 And he humbled thee, and allowed thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knew not, neither did thy fathers know, that he might make thee know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proce4 Thy raiment did not grow old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years.5 And thou shall consider in thy heart, that, as a man chastens his son, so LORD thy God chastens thee.6 And thou shall keep the commandments of LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.7 For LORD thy God brings thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing forth in valleys and hills;8 a land of wheat and barley, and vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive trees and honey,9 a land in which thou shall eat bread without scarceness. Thou shall not lack anything in it, a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills thou may dig copper.10 And thou shall eat and be full, and thou shall bless LORD thy God for the good land which he has given thee.11 Beware lest thou forget LORD thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his ordinances, and his statutes, which I command thee this day.12 Lest, when thou have eaten and are full, and have built goodly houses, and dwelt in it,13 and when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou have is multiplied,14 then thy heart be lifted up, and thou forget LORD thy God, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage,15 who led thee through the great and terrible wilderness--fiery serpents and scorpions, and thirsty ground where was no water--who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint,16 who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers did not know, that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end.17 And [lest] thou say in thy heart, My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth.18 But thou shall remember LORD thy God, for it is he who gives thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he swore to thy fathers, as at this day.19 And it shall be, if thou shall forget LORD thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish.20 As the nations that LORD makes to perish before you, so shall ye perish, because ye would not hearken to the voice of LORD your God.
