1 Visão que Isaías, filho de Amoz, teve a respeito de Judá e Jerusalém, nos dias de Uzias, Jotão, Acaz e Ezequias, reis de Judá.

2 Escutem, ó céus,

e ouça, ó terra,

porque o Senhor é quem fala:

"Criei filhos e os fiz crescer,

mas eles se revoltaram contra mim.

3 O boi conhece o seu dono,

e o jumento, o lugar

onde lhe dão comida,

mas Israel não tem conhecimento,

o meu povo não entende."

4 Ai desta nação pecadora,

deste povo carregado de iniquidade!

São descendência de malfeitores,

filhos que praticam o mal.

Rejeitaram o Senhor,

desprezaram o Santo de Israel,

voltaram para trás.

5 Por que vocês insistem

em ser castigados?

Por que continuam em rebeldia?

Toda a cabeça está doente,

e todo o coração está enfermo.

6 Desde a planta do pé

até o alto da cabeça

não há nada são,

a não ser feridas, contusões

e chagas abertas,

umas e outras

que não foram limpas,

nem atadas, nem tratadas

com azeite.

7 A terra de vocês está devastada,

as cidades foram consumidas

pelo fogo.

Quanto às lavouras, os estrangeiros

as devoraram

na presença de vocês,

e a terra se acha devastada

como numa destruição

feita por estrangeiros.

8 A filha de Sião foi deixada

como cabana na vinha,

como choupana no pepinal,

como cidade sitiada.

9 Se o Senhor dos Exércitos

não nos tivesse deixado

alguns sobreviventes,

já nos teríamos tornado

como Sodoma

e semelhantes a Gomorra.

10 Príncipes de Sodoma,

escutem a palavra do Senhor!

Povo de Gomorra,

dê ouvidos à lei do nosso Deus!

11 O Senhor diz:

"De que me serve

a multidão dos sacrifícios

que vocês oferecem?

Estou farto dos holocaustos

de carneiros

e da gordura de animais cevados.

Não me agrado

do sangue de novilhos,

nem de cordeiros, nem de bodes.

12 Quando comparecem

diante de mim,

quem requereu de vocês

esse pisotear dos meus átrios?

13 Não me tragam mais ofertas vãs!

O incenso é para mim abominação,

e também as Festas da Lua Nova,

os sábados

e a convocação das assembleias.

Não posso suportar iniquidade

associada à reunião solene.

14 As Festas da Lua Nova

e as solenidades,

a minha alma as odeia;

já são um peso para mim;

estou cansado de suportá-las."

15 "Quando vocês estendem

as mãos,

eu fecho os meus olhos;

sim, quando multiplicam

as suas orações,

não as ouço,

porque as mãos de vocês

estão cheias de sangue.

16 Lavem-se e purifiquem-se!

Tirem da minha presença

a maldade dos seus atos;

parem de fazer o mal!

17 Aprendam a fazer o bem;

busquem a justiça,

repreendam o opressor;

garantam o direito dos órfãos,

defendam a causa das viúvas."

18 O Senhor diz:

"Venham, pois, e vamos discutir

a questão.

Ainda que os pecados de vocês

sejam como o escarlate,

eles se tornarão brancos

como a neve;

ainda que sejam vermelhos

como o carmesim,

eles se tornarão como a lã.

19 Se estiverem dispostos

e me ouvirem,

vocês comerão o melhor desta terra.

20 Mas, se recusarem

e forem rebeldes,

vocês serão devorados pela espada;

porque a boca do Senhor o disse."

21 Como se fez prostituta

a cidade fiel,

ela que estava cheia de justiça!

Nela habitava a retidão,

mas agora só restaram assassinos.

22 Jerusalém, a sua prata

se tornou escória,

o seu licor se misturou com água.

23 Os seus príncipes são rebeldes

e companheiros de ladrões.

Cada um deles ama o suborno

e corre atrás de recompensas.

Eles não defendem

o direito do órfão,

e a causa das viúvas

não chega diante deles.

24 Por isso, o Senhor,

o Senhor dos Exércitos,

o Poderoso de Israel, diz:

"Ah! Acertarei as contas

com os meus adversários

e me vingarei dos meus inimigos.

25 Voltarei a minha mão

contra você, Jerusalém,

purificando-a da sua escória

como se faz com potassa

e tirando de você

todo metal impuro.

26 Eu lhe darei juízes

como você tinha antigamente,

e conselheiros, como no princípio.

Depois disso você será chamada

‘Cidade da Justiça’, ‘Cidade Fiel’."

27 Sião será redimida pelo direito,

e os que se arrependem,

pela justiça.

28 Mas os transgressores

e os pecadores

serão juntamente destruídos,

e os que deixarem o Senhor

perecerão.

29 Vocês terão vergonha

dos carvalhos que cobiçaram

e ficarão desiludidos

por causa dos jardins sagrados

que escolheram.

30 Porque vocês serão

como o carvalho

cujas folhas murcham;

serão como um jardim

que não tem água.

31 O forte se tornará como estopa,

e a sua obra, como faísca;

ambos serão queimados juntos,

e não haverá quem apague o fogo.

1 The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.2 Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth, for LORD has spoken. I have nourished and brought up sons, and they have rebelled against me.3 The ox knows his owner, and the donkey his master's crib, [but] Israel does not know; my people does not consider.4 Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evil-doers, sons who deal corruptly! They have forsaken LORD. They have despised the Holy One of Israel. They have gone away backward.5 Why will ye be still stricken, that ye revolt more and more? The whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.6 From the sole of the foot even to the head there is no soundness in it, [but] wounds, and bruises, and fresh stripes. They have not been closed nor bound up nor soothed with oil.7 Your country is desolate. Your cities are burned with fire. Your land--strangers devour it in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers.8 And the daughter of Zion is left as a booth in a vineyard, as a shed in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city.9 Unless LORD of hosts had left to us a seed (LXX/NT), we should have been as Sodom, we should have been like Gomorrah.10 Hear the word of LORD, ye rulers of Sodom, give ear to the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah.11 What to me is the multitude of your sacrifices? says LORD. I have had enough of the burnt-offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts. And I do not delight in the blood of bullocks or of lambs or of he-goats.12 When ye come to appear before me, who has required this at your hand--to trample my courts?13 Bring no more vain oblations. Incense is an abomination to me. New moon and Sabbath, the calling of assemblies--I cannot bear iniquity and the solemn meeting.14 Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hates. They are a trouble to me. I am weary of bearing them.15 And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you. Yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear; your hands are full of blood.16 Wash you, make you clean, put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes. Cease to do evil.17 Learn to do good. Seek justice, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.18 Come now, and let us reason together, says LORD, though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.19 If ye are willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land.20 But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword, for the mouth of LORD has spoken it.21 How the faithful city has become a harlot! She who was full of justice! Righteousness lodged in her, but now murderers.22 Thy silver has become dross, thy wine mixed with water.23 Thy rulers are rebellious, and companions of thieves. Everyone loves bribes, and follows after rewards. They judge not the fatherless, nor does the cause of the widow come to them.24 Therefore says the Lord, LORD of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel, Ah, I will ease me of my adversaries, and avenge me of my enemies.25 And I will turn my hand upon thee, and thoroughly purge away thy dross, and will take away all thy tin.26 And I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counselors as at the beginning. Afterward thou shall be called the city of righteousness, a faithful town.27 Zion shall be redeemed with justice, and her converts with righteousness.28 But the destruction of transgressors and sinners shall be together, and those who forsake LORD shall be consumed.29 For they shall be ashamed of the oaks which ye have desired, and ye shall be confounded for the gardens that ye have chosen.30 For ye shall be as an oak whose leaf fades, and as a garden that has no water.31 And the strong shall be as flax, and his work as a spark. And they shall both burn together, and none shall quench them.
