1 Eis que o Senhor vai devastar

e desolar a terra,

vai transtornar a sua superfície

e dispersar os seus moradores.

2 O mesmo vai acontecer com todos:

com o povo e com o sacerdote;

com o servo e com o seu senhor;

com a serva e com a sua dona;

com o comprador

e com o vendedor;

com o que empresta

e com o que toma emprestado;

com o credor e com o devedor.

3 A terra será completamente

devastada

e totalmente saqueada,

porque o Senhor

é quem proferiu esta palavra.

4 A terra pranteia e murcha;

o mundo enfraquece e murcha;

enfraquecem os mais nobres

do povo da terra.

5 A terra está contaminada

por causa dos seus moradores,

porque transgridem as leis,

violam os estatutos

e quebram a aliança eterna.

6 Por isso, a maldição

consome a terra,

e os que habitam nela

se tornam culpados.

Por isso, os moradores da terra

serão queimados,

e poucas pessoas restarão.

7 O vinho pranteia,

a videira murcha,

e gemem todos os que estavam

de coração alegre.

8 Cessou o som alegre

dos tamborins,

acabou o ruído dos que exultam,

cessou o som alegre da harpa.

9 Já não se bebe vinho

entre canções;

a bebida forte é amarga

para os que a bebem.

10 A cidade caótica está demolida;

todas as casas estão fechadas,

e ninguém consegue entrar.

11 Gritam por vinho nas ruas;

todo o riso desapareceu;

a alegria foi banida da terra.

12 Na cidade, só restou a desolação,

e o portão está em pedaços.

13 O que acontecerá na terra,

no meio dos povos,

é como o sacudir da oliveira

no tempo da colheita

e o rebuscar das parreiras

depois de acabada a vindima.

14 Eles levantam a voz

e cantam com alegria;

por causa da glória do Senhor,

exultam desde o mar.

15 Por isso, no Oriente

deem glória ao Senhor

e, nas terras do mar,

glorifiquem o nome do Senhor,

o Deus de Israel.

16 Dos confins da terra

ouvimos cantar:

"Glória ao Justo!"

Mas eu digo: "Estou definhando!

Estou definhando! Ai de mim!

Os traidores estão traindo;

sim, os traidores

só tramam traições."

17 Terror, buracos e armadilhas

esperam por vocês,

moradores da terra.

18 Aquele que fugir da voz do terror

cairá no buraco,

e, se sair do buraco,

será apanhado na armadilha.

Porque as represas do alto

se abrem,

e tremem os fundamentos da terra.

19 A terra será totalmente quebrada,

a terra ficará completamente

despedaçada,

a terra será violentamente sacudida.

20 A terra vai cambalear

como um bêbado

e balançar como uma cabana;

a sua transgressão pesa sobre ela,

ela cairá e nunca mais se levantará.

21 Naquele dia, o Senhor castigará,

nas alturas, os exércitos celestiais,

e, na terra, castigará os reis da terra.

22 Serão ajuntados

como presos em masmorra

e encerrados num cárcere;

e, depois de muitos dias,

serão castigados.

23 A lua ficará corada de vergonha

e o sol se envergonhará

quando o Senhor dos Exércitos

reinar no monte Sião

e em Jerusalém;

e diante dos seus anciãos

haverá glória.

1 Behold, LORD makes the earth empty, and makes it waste, and turns it upside down, and scatters abroad the inhabitants of it.2 And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest, as with the servant, so with his master, as with the maid, so with her mistress, as with the buyer, so with the seller, as with the creditor, so with the debtor, as with the3 The earth shall be utterly emptied, and utterly laid waste, for LORD has spoken this word.4 The earth mourns and fades away. The world languishes and fades away. The lofty people of the earth languish.5 The earth also is polluted under the inhabitants of it, because they have transgressed the laws, violated the statutes, broken the everlasting covenant.6 Therefore the curse has devoured the earth, and those who dwell in it are found guilty. Therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.7 The new wine mourns. The vine languishes. All the merry-hearted do sigh.8 The mirth of tambourine ceases. The noise of those who rejoice ends. The joy of the harp ceases.9 They shall not drink wine with a song. Strong drink shall be bitter to those who drink it.10 The waste city is broken down. Every house is shut up, that no man may come in.11 There is a crying in the streets because of the wine. All joy is darkened. The mirth of the land is gone.12 Desolation is left in the city, and the gate is smitten with destruction.13 For thus shall it be in the midst of the earth among the peoples, as the shaking of an olive tree, as the gleanings when the vintage is done.14 These shall lift up their voice. They shall shout. For the majesty of LORD they cry aloud from the sea.15 Therefore glorify ye LORD in the east, even the name of LORD, the God of Israel, in the isles of the sea.16 From the outermost part of the earth we have heard songs. Glory to the righteous. But I said, I pine away, I pine away. Woe is me! The treacherous have dealt treacherously, yea, the treacherous have dealt very treacherously.17 Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.18 And it shall come to pass, that he who flees from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit, and he who comes up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare. For the windows on high are opened, and the foundations o19 The earth is utterly broken. The earth is torn apart. The earth is shaken violently.20 The earth shall stagger like a drunken man, and shall sway to and fro like a hammock. And the transgression of it shall be heavy upon it, and it shall fall, and not rise again.21 And it shall come to pass in that day, that LORD will punish the host of the high ones on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth.22 And they shall be gathered together as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison. And after many days they shall be visited.23 Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, for LORD of hosts will reign in mount Zion and in Jerusalem. And glory shall be before his elders.
