1 Sentença contra a Babilônia que Isaías, filho de Amoz, recebeu numa visão.

2 Sobre um monte escalvado,

levantem um estandarte.

Ergam a voz para eles,

acenem com a mão,

para que entrem

pelos portões dos príncipes.

3 Eu dei ordens

aos meus consagrados,

sim, chamei os meus valentes,

os que exultam

com a minha majestade,

para que executem a minha ira.

4 Já se ouve sobre os montes

um rumor como o de

uma grande multidão,

o clamor de reinos

e de nações já congregados.

O Senhor dos Exércitos reúne

as tropas de guerra.

5 Eles vêm de um país remoto,

desde a extremidade dos céus:

é o Senhor e os instrumentos

da sua indignação,

para destruir toda a terra.

6 Lamentem, pois o Dia do Senhor

está perto;

ele vem como destruição

da parte do Todo-Poderoso.

7 Por isso, todas as mãos

desfalecerão,

e o coração de todos

se derreterá.

8 Ficarão apavorados;

angústia e dores

tomarão conta deles,

e se contorcerão qual mulher

que está dando à luz.

Olharão espantados

uns para os outros,

com os rostos da cor do fogo.

9 Eis que vem o Dia do Senhor,

dia cruel, com ira e ardente furor,

para fazer da terra uma desolação

e exterminar dela os pecadores.

10 Porque as estrelas

e constelações dos céus

não darão a sua luz;

o sol, logo ao nascer, se escurecerá,

e a lua não fará resplandecer

a sua luz.

11 "Castigarei o mundo

por causa da sua maldade,

e os perversos,

por causa da sua iniquidade.

Farei cessar

a arrogância dos atrevidos

e abaterei o orgulho dos violentos.

12 Farei com que as pessoas

sejam mais escassas

do que o ouro puro,

mais raras do que o ouro de Ofir.

13 Portanto, farei estremecer

os céus,

e a terra será sacudida do seu lugar,

por causa da ira

do Senhor dos Exércitos

e por causa do dia

do seu ardente furor."

14 "Cada um será como a gazela

que foge

e como o rebanho

que ninguém recolhe;

cada um voltará para o seu povo

e cada um fugirá para a sua terra.

15 Quem for achado

será traspassado,

e aquele que for apanhado

será morto à espada.

16 As crianças serão esmagadas

diante dos olhos deles;

as casas serão saqueadas,

e as mulheres deles, violentadas."

17 "Eis que contra os babilônios

eu despertarei os medos,

que não farão caso de prata,

nem se alegrarão com ouro.

18 As suas flechas matarão os jovens;

eles não se compadecerão

dos recém-nascidos,

e os seus olhos

não pouparão as crianças.

19 Babilônia, a joia dos reinos,

glória e orgulho dos caldeus,

será como Sodoma e Gomorra,

quando Deus as destruiu.

20 Nunca mais será habitada,

ninguém morará nela

de geração em geração.

Os árabes não armarão ali

as suas tendas,

e os pastores não levarão

para lá os seus rebanhos.

21 Porém, nela, os animais

do deserto repousarão,

e as suas casas

se encherão de corujas.

Ali habitarão os avestruzes,

e os bodes selvagens pularão ali.

22 As hienas uivarão

nos seus castelos;

os chacais,

nos seus palácios de prazer.

A hora da Babilônia está chegando,

e os seus dias

não serão prolongados."

1 The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw.2 Set ye up an ensign upon the bare mountain. Lift up the voice to them. Wave the hand, that they may go into the gates of the nobles.3 I have commanded my consecrated ones, yea, I have called my mighty men for my anger, even my proudly exulting ones.4 The noise of a multitude in the mountains, as of a great people! The noise of a tumult of the kingdoms of the nations gathered together! LORD of hosts is mustering the army for the battle.5 They come from a far country, from the outermost part of heaven, even LORD, and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land.6 Wail ye, for the day of LORD is at hand. It shall come as destruction from the Almighty.7 Therefore all hands shall be feeble, and every heart of man shall melt.8 And they shall be dismayed. Pangs and sorrows shall take hold. They shall be in pain as a woman in travail. They shall look in amazement one at another, their faces, faces of flame.9 Behold, the day of LORD comes, cruel, with wrath and fierce anger, to make the land a desolation, and to destroy the sinners thereof out of it.10 For the stars of heaven and the constellations of it shall not give their light. The sun shall be darkened in its going forth, and the moon shall not cause its light to shine.11 And I will punish the world for the evil, and the wicked for their iniquity. And I will cause the arrogance of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.12 I will make a man more rare than fine gold, even a man than the pure gold of Ophir.13 Therefore I will make the heavens to tremble, and the earth shall be shaken out of its place, in the wrath of LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger.14 And it shall come to pass, that as the chased roe, and as sheep that no man gathers, they shall turn every man to his own people, and shall flee every man to his own land.15 Everyone who is found shall be thrust through, and everyone who is taken shall fall by the sword.16 Their infants also shall be dashed in pieces before their eyes. Their houses shall be rifled, and their wives ravished.17 Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, who shall not regard silver, and as for gold, they shall not delight in it.18 And [their] bows shall dash the young men in pieces. And they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eye shall not spare children.19 And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldeans' pride, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.20 It shall never be inhabited, nor shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation. Neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there, nor shall shepherds make their flocks to lay down there.21 But wild beasts of the desert shall lay there, and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures. And ostriches shall dwell there, and wild goats shall dance there.22 And wolves shall cry in their castles, and jackals in the pleasant palaces. And her time is near to come, and her days shall not be prolonged.
