1 Eis aí um rei que irá reinar
com justiça,
e príncipes que irão governar
com retidão.
2 Cada um deles servirá
de esconderijo contra o vento,
de refúgio contra a tempestade,
de torrentes de água
em lugares secos
e de sombra de uma grande rocha
em terra sedenta.
3 Os olhos dos que veem
não se fecharão,
e os ouvidos dos que ouvem
estarão atentos.
4 O coração dos apressados
saberá compreender,
e a língua dos gagos
falará com rapidez e clareza.
5 O tolo nunca mais
será chamado de nobre,
e do fraudulento nunca mais
se dirá que é generoso.
6 Porque o tolo fala tolices,
e o seu coração só pensa
em fazer o mal,
para praticar a iniquidade
e para proferir mentiras
contra o Senhor,
para deixar o faminto sem comida
e o sedento sem ter o que beber.
7 Quanto ao fraudulento,
os seus projetos são maus.
Ele planeja intrigas para,
com palavras mentirosas,
arruinar os necessitados,
mesmo quando a causa dos pobres
é justa.
8 Mas o nobre projeta coisas nobres
e pela sua nobreza
se mantém em pé.
9 Vocês, mulheres
que vivem tranquilas,
levantem-se e ouçam a minha voz;
e vocês, filhas que estão confiantes,
escutem o que vou dizer.
10 Daqui a pouco mais de um ano,
vocês, que estão confiantes,
vão tremer de medo,
porque a vindima se acabará,
e não haverá colheita.
11 Vocês, mulheres
que vivem tranquilas,
comecem a sentir pavor;
e vocês, que estão confiantes,
tremam de medo.
Tirem as suas roupas, fiquem nuas,
e vistam-se de pano de saco.
12 Batam no peito e chorem
por causa dos campos aprazíveis
e por causa das vinhas frutíferas.
13 Sobre a terra do meu povo
virão espinheiros
e ervas daninhas.
Chorem também por causa
de todas as casas
onde há júbilo,
na cidade cheia de alegria.
14 O palácio será abandonado,
a cidade populosa ficará deserta.
Ofel e a torre da guarda
servirão de cavernas
para sempre,
para alegria dos jumentos selvagens
e pastagem dos rebanhos.
15 Isso será assim
até que se derrame
sobre nós o Espírito lá do alto.
Então o deserto
se tornará em pomar,
e o pomar será tido por bosque;
16 a retidão habitará no deserto,
e a justiça morará no pomar.
17 O efeito da justiça será paz,
e o fruto da justiça será repouso
e segurança, para sempre.
18 O meu povo habitará
em moradas de paz,
em moradas bem seguras
e em lugares quietos e tranquilos,
19 mesmo que haja granizo,
caia o bosque
e a cidade seja
inteiramente arrasada.
20 Bem-aventurados são vocês,
que semeiam junto a todas as águas
e deixam os bois e jumentos
pastar em liberdade.

1 Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, and rulers shall rule in justice.2 And a man shall be as a hiding-place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest, as streams of water in a dry place, as the shade of a great rock in a weary land.3 And the eyes of those who see shall not be dim, and the ears of those who hear shall hearken.4 And the heart of the rash shall understand knowledge, and the tongue of the stammerers shall be ready to speak plainly.5 The fool shall no more be called noble, nor the churl said to be bountiful.6 For the fool will speak folly, and his heart will work iniquity, to practice profaneness, and to utter error against LORD, to make empty the soul of the hungry, and to cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.7 And the instruments of the churl are evil. He devises wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the needy speaks right.8 But a noble man devises noble things, and in noble things he shall continue.9 Rise up, ye women who are at ease. Hear my voice, ye careless daughters. Give ear to my speech.10 For ye shall be troubled days beyond a year, ye careless women. For the vintage shall fail; the ingathering shall not come.11 Tremble, ye women who are at ease. Be troubled, ye careless ones. Strip you, and make you bare, and gird [sackcloth] upon your loins.12 They shall beat upon the breasts for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vine.13 Thorns and briers shall come up on the land of my people, yea, upon all the houses of joy in the joyous city.14 For the palace shall be forsaken. The populous city shall be deserted. The hill and the watch-tower shall be for dens forever, a joy of wild donkeys, a pasture of flocks,15 until the Spirit be poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness becomes a fruitful field, and the fruitful field be esteemed as a forest.16 Then justice shall dwell in the wilderness, and righteousness shall abide in the fruitful field.17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace, and the effect of righteousness, quietness and confidence forever.18 And my people shall abide in a peaceable habitation, and in safe dwellings, and in quiet resting-places.19 But it shall hail in the downfall of the forest, and the city shall be utterly laid low.20 Blessed are ye who sow beside all waters, who send forth the feet of the ox and the donkey.
