1 "Bel se encurva, Nebo se abaixa;

os ídolos são postos

sobre os animais,

sobre as bestas.

As cargas que vocês

costumavam levar

são canseira para os animais

já cansados.

2 Esses deuses juntamente

se abaixam

e se encurvam;

não podem salvar a carga,

mas eles mesmos vão

para o cativeiro."

3 "Escutem, ó casa de Jacó

e todo o remanescente

da casa de Israel,

vocês que eu carrego

desde o ventre materno

e que levo nos braços

desde o nascimento.

4 Até a velhice de vocês

eu serei o mesmo

e ainda quando tiverem

cabelos brancos

eu os carregarei.

Eu os fiz e eu os levarei;

eu os carregarei e os salvarei."

5 "Com quem vocês

vão me comparar?

A quem eu seria igual?

E que coisa semelhante

confrontarão comigo?

6 Os que gastam o ouro da bolsa

e pesam a prata nas balanças

contratam um ourives

para que faça um deus;

e depois se prostram

e se inclinam diante dele.

7 Eles o põem sobre os ombros,

levam-no e o põem no seu lugar,

e aí ele fica;

do seu lugar não se move.

Recorrem a ele,

mas nenhuma resposta ele dá

e não livra ninguém

da sua tribulação."

8 "Lembrem-se disso e animem-se;

pensem a respeito disso,

ó rebeldes.

9 Lembrem-se das coisas passadas,

das coisas da antiguidade:

que eu sou Deus, e não há outro;

eu sou Deus, e não há

outro semelhante a mim.

10 Desde o princípio anuncio

o que há de acontecer

e desde a antiguidade revelo

as coisas que

ainda não sucederam.

Eu digo: o meu conselho

permanecerá em pé,

e farei toda a minha vontade.

11 Chamo uma ave de rapina

desde o Oriente;

de uma terra longínqua

vem o homem

do meu conselho.

Eu o disse e também o cumprirei;

fiz este plano,

também o executarei."

12 "Escutem, vocês

de coração obstinado,

que estão longe da justiça.

13 Faço chegar a minha justiça,

e ela não está longe;

a minha salvação não tardará.

Estabelecerei em Sião o livramento

e em Israel, a minha glória."

1 Bel bows down and Nebo stoops low. Their idols are borne by beasts of burden. The images that are carried about are burdensome. They are a burden for the weary.2 They stoop and bow down together. They are unable to rescue the burden and they go off into captivity.3 »Listen to me, O house of Jacob, all you who remain of the house of Israel. I have upheld you since you were conceived. I have carried you since your birth.4 Even in your old age with gray hair I am he, I am he who will support you. I have made you and I will bear your burden take care of you. I will sustain supportstrengthen you and I will rescue you keep you safe.5 »To whom will you compare me or count me equal? To whom will you liken me that we may be compared?6 »Some pour out gold from their bags and weigh out silver on the scales. They hire a goldsmith to make it into a god. They bow down and worship it.7 »They lift it to their shoulders and carry it. They set it up in its place and there it stands. From that spot it cannot move. Though one cries out to it, it does not answer. It cannot save him from his troubles!8 »Remember this! Keep it in mind and take it to heart, you rebels.9 »Remember the former things, the things of long ago. I am God, and there is no other. I am God, and there is none like me.10 »I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come.
