1 No ano da morte do rei Uzias, eu vi o Senhor assentado sobre um alto e sublime trono, e as abas de suas vestes enchiam o templo. 2 Serafins estavam por cima dele. Cada um tinha seis asas: com duas cobria o rosto, com duas cobria os pés e com duas voava. 3 E clamavam uns para os outros, dizendo:

"Santo, santo, santo

é o Senhor dos Exércitos;

toda a terra está cheia

da sua glória."

4 Os umbrais das portas se moveram com a voz do que clamava, e o templo se encheu de fumaça. 5 Então eu disse:

— Ai de mim! Estou perdido! Porque sou homem de lábios impuros, e habito no meio de um povo de lábios impuros; e os meus olhos viram o Rei, o Senhor dos Exércitos!

6 Então um dos serafins voou para mim, trazendo na mão uma brasa viva, que havia tirado do altar com uma pinça. 7 Com a brasa tocou a minha boca e disse:

— Eis que esta brasa tocou os seus lábios. A sua iniquidade foi tirada, e o seu pecado, perdoado.

8 Depois disto, ouvi a voz do Senhor, que dizia:

— A quem enviarei, e quem há de ir por nós?

Eu respondi:

— Eis-me aqui, envia-me a mim.

9 Então ele disse:

— Vá e diga a este povo:

"Ouçam; ouçam, mas sem entender.

Vejam; vejam, mas sem perceber."

10 Torne insensível

o coração deste povo,

endureça-lhes os ouvidos

e feche os olhos deles,

para que não venham a

ver com os olhos,

ouvir com os ouvidos

e entender com o coração,

e se convertam, e sejam curados.

11 Então eu perguntei:

"Até quando, Senhor?"

Ele respondeu:

"Até que as cidades

estejam em ruínas

e fiquem sem habitantes,

as casas fiquem sem moradores

e a terra esteja

em ruínas e devastada,

12 e o Senhor afaste dela

o povo,

e no meio da terra sejam muitos

os lugares abandonados.

13 Mas, se ainda ficar

a décima parte dela,

tornará a ser destruída.

Como o terebinto

e como o carvalho,

dos quais, depois de derrubados,

ainda fica o toco,

assim a santa semente

será o seu toco."

1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw discerned Jehovah seated on a throne, high and exalted. The train of his robe filled the Temple.2 Above him were seraphs, each with six wings. With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying.3 They called to one another: »Holy, holy, holy is Jehovah of Hosts. All the earth is full of his glory.«4 At the sound of their voices the foundations and thresholds trembled and the Temple was filled with smoke.5 »Woe to me!« I cried. »I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips a sinner and I live among a people of unclean filthy lips speechlanguage. My eyes have seen the King, Jehovah of Hosts.«6 Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand. With tongs he seized it from the altar.7 He touched my mouth with it and said: »See! This has touched your lips, your guilt is taken away and your sin forgiven pardonedatoned for.«8 I heard the voice of Jehovah. He said: »Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?« And I said: »Here I am. Send me!«9 He said: »Go and tell this people: ‘Hear constantly but do not understand. See constantly but do not perceive.’10 »This people’s heart has become calloused. They hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.« Septuagint11 Then I said: »How long, O Jehovah? And He answered: »Until the cities are laid waste and without inhabitant, until the houses are deserted and the land is utterly desolate.12 »Until Jehovah has removed men far away, and the forsaken places are many in the midst of the land.13 »Even if one out of ten people are left it will be destroyed burned again. When a strong tree or an oak is cut down, a stump is left. The holy seed is the stump.«
