1 Ai dos que descem ao Egito em busca de ajuda, que contam com cavalos. Eles confiam na multidão dos seus carros e na grande força dos seus cavaleiros, mas não olham para o Santo de Israel, nem buscam a ajuda que vem do Senhor!2 Contudo, ele também é sábio e pode trazer a desgraça; ele não volta atrás em suas palavras. Ele se levantará contra a casa dos perversos, contra quem ajuda os maus.3 Mas os egípcios são homens, e não Deus; seus cavalos são carne, e não espírito. Quando o Senhor estender a mão, aquele que ajuda tropeçará, aquele que é ajudado cairá; ambos perecerão juntos.4 Assim me diz o Senhor: "Assim como quando o leão, o leão grande, ruge ao lado da presa, e contra ele se junta um bando de pastores, e ele não se intimida com os gritos deles nem se perturba com o seu clamor, assim o Senhor dos Exércitos descerá para combater nas alturas do monte Sião.5 Como as aves dão proteção aos filhotes com suas asas, o Senhor dos Exércitos protegerá Jerusalém; ele a protegerá e a livrará; ele a poupará e a salvará".6 Voltem para aquele contra quem vocês se revoltaram tão tremendamente, ó israelitas!7 Pois naquele dia cada um de vocês rejeitará os ídolos de prata e de ouro que as mãos pecaminosas de vocês fizeram.8 "A Assíria cairá por uma espada que não é de homem; uma espada, não de mortais, a devorará. Todos fugirão da espada e os seus jovens serão sujeitos a trabalhos forçados.9 Sua fortaleza cairá por causa do pavor; ao verem a bandeira da batalha, seus líderes entrarão em pânico", anuncia o Senhor, cujo fogo está em Sião, cuja fornalha está em Jerusalém.

1 How horrible it will be for those who go to Egypt for help! Cursed are those who rely on very strong warhorses, who depend on many chariots. They do not look to the Holy One of Israel. They do not seek Jehovah.2 He is wise and can bring about disaster. He does not take back his words. He rises against wicked people and against those who help troublemakers.3 The Egyptians are humans, not God. Their horses are flesh and blood, not spirit. Jehovah will stretch out his powerful hand extend his power. The one who gives help will stumble. The one who receives help will fall. Both will die together.4 This is what Jehovah said to me: »A lion, even a young lion, growls over its prey when a crowd of shepherds is called to fight it. It is not frightened by their voices or disturbed by the noise they make. So Jehovah of Hosts will come to fight for Mount Zion and on its hill.5 »Jehovah of Hosts will defend Jerusalem like a hovering bird. He will defend it and rescue it. He will pass over it and protect it.«6 Return you people of Israel, return to the one whom you have so violently rebelled against.7 When that day comes, all of you will reject the worthless gods of silver and gold, the idols that your sinful hands have made.8 Then Assyrians will be killed with a sword not made by human hands. The swords not made by human hands will destroy them. They will flee from battle, and their young men will be made to do forced labor.9 »In terror they will run to their stronghold, and their officers will be frightened at the sight of the battle flag.« Jehovah declares this. His fire light is in Zion and his furnace is in Jerusalem.
