1 Na noite da Páscoa, Jesus já sabia que seria aquela a sua última noite neste mundo antes de voltar para junto do Pai. O Diabo já convencera Judas Iscariotes, filho de Simão, a traí-lo.

3 Jesus sabia que o Pai dera tudo nas suas mãos e que viera de Deus e para Deus voltaria. Quanto aos seus discípulos, amou-os sempre da forma mais perfeita!

4 Depois da ceia, levantou-se da mesa, despiu a túnica, pôs uma toalha à volta da cintura , e, deitando água numa bacia, começou a lavar os pés dos discípulos e a enxugá-los com a toalha.

6 Quando chegou a vez de Simão Pedro, este observou-lhe: Mestre, não devias lavar-me os pés.

7 Jesus retorquiu: Agora não entendes o que faço, mas virá o dia em que compreenderás.

8 Não, protestou Pedro. Não consinto que me laves os pés!Se não deixares, não poderás ter parte comigo.

9 Pedro respondeu: Senhor, então não só os pés, mas as mãos e a cabeça!

10 Jesus respondeu: Aquele que se lavou por completo só precisa de lavar os pés para se manter limpo. Agora estás limpo, mas nem todos os que aqui se encontram o estão.

11 Pois Jesus sabia quem o ia trair. Por isso disse aquela frase: Nem todos vocês estão limpos.

12 Depois de lhes ter lavado os pés, tornou a vestir a túnica e, sentando-se, perguntou: Compreendem o que eu fiz?

13 Chamam-me Mestre e Senhor, e fazem bem, porque é verdade.

14 E uma vez que eu, Senhor e Mestre, vos lavei os pés, também devem lavar os pés uns aos outros.

15 Dei-vos um exemplo; façam como eu vos fiz.

16 É bem verdade que o criado não é mais do que o seu patrão, nem o mensageiro mais importante do que aquele que o enviou! Agora que sabem estas coisas, serão felizes se as praticarem.

1 Now, before the feast of the passover, Jesus, knowing that his hour had come, that he should remove out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own that were in the world, unto the end, loved them.

2 And, supper, being in progress, the adversary, having already thrust into the heart of Judas son of Simon Iscariot, that he should deliver him up,

3 knowing that, all things, the Father had given unto him, into his hands, and that, from God, he had come, and, unto God, he was going,

4 rouseth himself out of the supper, and layeth aside his garments, and taking a linen cloth, girded himself.

5 Next, he poureth water into the wash-basin, and began to be washing the feet of the disciples, and to be wiping them with the linen cloth wherewith he was girded.

6 So he cometh unto Simon Peter. He saith unto himLord, dost, thou, wash my feet?

7 Jesus answered, and said unto himWhat, I, am doing, thou, knowest not, as yet; howbeit, thou shalt got to know, hereafter.

8 Peter saith unto himIn nowise shalt thou, ever, wash my feet. Jesus answered himIf I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.

9 Simon Peter saith unto himLord! not my feet only, but my hands also, and my head.

10 Jesus saith unto himHe that hath bathed himself, hath no need save as to the feet to get washed; but is pure, as a whole. And, ye, are, pure, but not ye, all.

11 For he know the man that was delivering him up; therefore, said heNot ye all, are pure.

12 When, therefore, he had washed their feet, and taken his garments, and reclined, again said he unto themAre ye taking note, what I have done unto you?

13 Ye, call me, The Teacher, and, The Lord,and, well, say, for I am.

14 If then, I, have washed your feet, The Lord, and, The Teacher, ye also, ought to wash, one anothers, feet;

15 For, an example, have I given you,that, just as, I, did unto you, ye also, should be doing.

16 Verily, verily, I say unto youA servant is not greater than his lord, neither one sent forth greater than he that sent him.

17 If, these things, ye know, happy, are ye, if ye be doing them.
