1 No princípio era a Palavra , e a Palavra estava com Deus, e a Palavra era Deus.
2 Aquele que é a Palavra sempre esteve com Deus.
3 Criou tudo o que existe e nada existe que não tenha sido feito por ele.
4 Nele está a vida eterna, e essa vida dá luz a toda a humanidade.
5 A sua vida é a luz que brilha nas trevas, e estas nunca poderão pôr fim a essa luz.
6 Deus enviou João Baptista para dar testemunho da verdadeira luz.
8 João não era a luz, mas apenas uma testemunha para que essa luz pudesse ser conhecida.
9 Mais tarde, veio aquele que é a verdadeira luz para brilhar sobre todo o ser humano.
10 Esteve neste mundo, que foi criado por ele, mas não o conheceram.
11 Veio para o seu povo e os seus não o receberam.
12 Mas a todos quantos o receberam deu-lhes o direito de se tornarem filhos de Deus. Bastava confiarem nele como Salvador .
13 Esses nascem de novo; não no corpo nem de geração humana, mas pela vontade de Deus.
14 A Palavra tornou-se homem e viveu aqui na Terra entre nós, cheio de amor e perdão , cheio de verdade. E vimos a sua glória, a glória do Filho único do Pai.
15 João deu testemunho dele clamando à multidão: Eis aquele de quem eu falava quando disse: 'Esse que vem depois de mim é muito maior do que eu, porque existia antes de mim'.
16 Todos nós recebemos da abundância dos seus bens, e a sua graça contínua. Moisés deu-nos a lei, mas Jesus Cristo trouxe-nos a graça e a verdade.
18 Nunca ninguém viu Deus. Mas o seu Filho único, que vive na intimidade do Pai, no-lo revelou.
19 Os chefes judaicos enviaram sacerdotes e sacerdotes auxiliares desde Jerusalém para perguntarem a João: Quem és tu?
20 E ele afirmou-lhes claramente:Eu não sou o Cristo.
21 Então quem és tu?, repetiram. Serás Elias? Não, respondeu.Serás o profeta? Não.
22 Então quem és? É preciso que nos digas para que possamos responder aos que nos enviaram. Que tens a dizer de ti mesmo?
24 Então os enviados, que eram fariseus, perguntaram a João Baptista: Se não és o Cristo, nem Elias, nem o profeta, porque baptizas tu?
26 Eu baptizo com água, mas aqui nesta multidão está alguém que não conhecem, e que em breve começará a sua obra no vosso meio; eu nem sequer sou digno de lhe descalçar o calçado.
28 Deu-se isto em Betânia, uma localidade do outro lado do Jordão, onde João baptizava.
29 No dia seguinte, João viu Jesus aproximar-se e disse: Olhem, ali está o cordeiro de Deus, que tira o pecado do mundo. É ele de quem eu falava quando disse: 'Em breve virá um muito maior do que eu e que já existia antes de mim'. Eu não sabia que era ele, mas eu tenho estado a baptizar com água a fim de o revelar ao povo de Israel.
32 Então João contou como vira o Espírito Santo descer do céu com a forma de uma pomba e pousar sobre Jesus.
33 Não sabia que era ele, repetiu João, mas, quando Deus me enviou para baptizar, disse-me: 'Quando vires o Espírito Santo descer e pousar sobre alguém, esse é aquele que baptizará com o Espírito Santo.' Vi isso acontecer e dou testemunho de que é o Filho de Deus.
35 No dia seguinte, estando João com dois dos seus discípulos, Jesus passou junto deles. João disse: Aqui está o cordeiro de Deus!
37 Então os dois discípulos de João voltaram-se e seguiram Jesus.
38 Olhando para trás, Jesus viu que eles o seguiam: Que querem?, perguntou-lhes.Senhor, onde vives?
39 Venham ver. Assim, foram até ao lugar onde morava, e com ele ficaram desde cerca das quatro daquela tarde até ao fim do dia.
40 Um destes homens era André, irmão de Simão Pedro.
41 Então André foi à procura de seu irmão Pedro e disse-lhe: Encontrámos o Messias! (quer dizer o Cristo).
42 E levou-o para que conhecesse Jesus. Este olhou para Pedro durante um instante e disse: Tu és Simão, filho de João, mas serás chamado Cefas (que quer dizer Pedro).
43 Um dia depois, Jesus resolveu ir para a Galileia e, encontrando Filipe, disse-lhe: Vem comigo.
44 Filipe era de Betsaida, a terra natal de André e de Pedro.
45 Filipe, por sua vez, foi ter com Natanael e contou-lhe: Encontrámos aquele acerca de quem Moisés e os profetas escreveram! O seu nome é Jesus, filho de José, de Nazaré.
46 De Nazaré?, perguntou Natanael admirado. Poderá vir daí alguma coisa boa? Vem e vê!, disse Filipe.
47 Ao aproximarem-se, Jesus disse: Aí vem um homem honesto, um verdadeiro filho de Israel.
48 Como sabes o que sou?, perguntou Natanael esus respondeu: Vi-te debaixo da figueira, ainda antes de Filipe te ter encontrado.
49 Então Natanael replicou: Mestre, tu és o Filho de Deus, o rei de Israel!
50 Jesus perguntou-lhe: Acreditas nisso só por eu te dizer que te tinha visto debaixo da figueira? Terás provas muito mais fortes do que esta.
51 A verdade é que vocês hão-de ver o céu aberto e os anjos de Deus indo e vindo sobre mim, o Filho do Homem.

23 He saidI, am a Voice, of one crying aloud;In the desert, make ye straight, the way of the Lord: according as said Isaiah the prophet.
24 And they had been sent forth from among the Pharisees;
25 and they questioned him, and said unto himWhy, then, dost thou immerse,if, thou, art not, the Christ, nor Elijah, nor, the Prophet?
26 John answered them, sayingI, immerse, in water. In the midst of you, standeth one, whom, ye, know not;
27 after me, coming:Of whom, I, am not worthy that I should unloose the thong of the sandal.
28 These things, in Bethany, came to pass, beyond the Jordan, where John was, immersing.
29 On the morrow, he beholdeth Jesus, coming unto him, and saithSee! the Lamb of God, who taketh away the sin of the world.
30 This, is he, of whom, I, saidAfter me, cometh a man, who, before me, hath advanced, because, my Chief, was he.
31 And, I, knew him not, but, that he might be manifested unto Israel, therefore, came, I, in water, immersing.
32 And John bare witness, sayingI have gazed upon the Spirit, descending like a dove, out of heaven,and it abode upon him.
33 And, I, knew him not,but, he that sent me to immerse in water, he, unto me, saidUpon whomsoever thou shalt see the Spirit descending and abiding upon him, the same, is he that immerseth in Holy Spirit.
34 I, therefore, have seen, and borne witnessThat, this, is, the, Son of God.
35 On the morrow, again, was John standing, and, from among his disciples, two;
36 and, looking at Jesus walking, he saithSee! the Lamb of God!
37 and the two disciples hearkened unto him speaking, and they followed Jesus.
38 But Jesus, turning, and looking at them following, saith unto themWhat seek ye? And, they, said unto himRabbi! which meaneth, when translated, Teacher, Where abidest thou?
39 He saith unto themBe coming, and ye shall see. They came, therefore, and saw where he abode, and, with him, they abode that day. It was about the tenth, hour.
40 One of the two that heard from John and followed him, was Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter.
41 The same findeth, first, his own brother Simon, and saith unto himWe have found the Messiah! which is, when translated, Anointed.
42 He led him unto Jesus. Jesus, looking at him, saidThou, art Simon, the son of John,thou, shalt be called, Cephas; which is to be translated, Peter.
43 On the morrow, he desired to go forth into Galilee. And Jesus findeth Philip, and saith unto himBe following me!
44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter.
45 Philip, findeth, Nathanael, and saith unto himHim, of whom wrote Moses in the law, and the Prophets, have we found.Jesus, son of Joseph, him from Nazareth!
46 And Nathanael said unto himOut of Nazareth, can any good thing come? Philip saith unto himCome, and see!
47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming unto him, and saith concerning himSee! Truly, an Israelite, in whom is no guile.
48 Nathanael saith unto himWhence, dost thou, know, me? Jesus answered, and said unto himBefore Philip called thee,when thou wast under the fig-tree, I saw thee.
49 Nathanael answered himRabbi! thou, art, the Son of God: Thou, art, King, of Israel.
50 Jesus answered, and said unto himBecause I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig-tree, believest thou? A greater thing than these, shalt thou see!
51 And he saith unto himVerily, verily, I say unto you: Ye shall see heavenwhen set open, and, the messengers of God, ascending and descending unto the Son of Man.
