1 The word of the LORD came to me:2 "Son of man, set your face toward Jerusalem and preach against the sanctuaries; prophesy against the land of Israel3 and say to the land of Israel, Thus says the LORD: Behold, I am against you, and will draw forth my sword out of its sheath, and will cut off from you both righteous and wicked.4 Because I will cut off from you both righteous and wicked, therefore my sword shall go out of its sheath against all flesh from south to north;5 and all flesh shall know that I the LORD have drawn my sword out of its sheath; it shall not be sheathed again.6 Sigh therefore, son of man; sigh with breaking heart and bitter grief before their eyes.7 And when they say to you, `Why do you sigh?' you shall say, `Because of the tidings. When it comes, every heart will melt and all hands will be feeble, every spirit will faint and all knees will be weak as water. Behold, it comes and it will be fulfilled,'" says the Lord GOD.8 And the word of the LORD came to me:9 "Son of man, prophesy and say, Thus says the Lord, Say: A sword, a sword is sharpened and also polished,10 sharpened for slaughter, polished to flash like lightning! Or do we make mirth? You have despised the rod, my son, with everything of wood.11 So the sword is given to be polished, that it may be handled; it is sharpened and polished to be given into the hand of the slayer.12 Cry and wail, son of man, for it is against my people; it is against all the princes of Israel; they are delivered over to the sword with my people. Smite therefore upon your thigh.13 For it will not be a testing--what could it do if you despise the rod?" says the Lord GOD.14 "Prophesy therefore, son of man; clap your hands and let the sword come down twice, yea thrice, the sword for those to be slain; it is the sword for the great slaughter, which encompasses them,15 that their hearts may melt, and many fall at all their gates. I have given the glittering sword; ah! it is made like lightning, it is polished for slaughter.16 Cut sharply to right and left where your edge is directed.17 I also will clap my hands, and I will satisfy my fury; I the LORD have spoken."18 The word of the LORD came to me again:19 "Son of man, mark two ways for the sword of the king of Babylon to come; both of them shall come forth from the same land. And make a signpost, make it at the head of the way to a city;20 mark a way for the sword to come to Rabbah of the Ammonites and to Judah and to Jerusalem the fortified.21 For the king of Babylon stands at the parting of the way, at the head of the two ways, to use divination; he shakes the arrows, he consults the teraphim, he looks at the liver.22 Into his right hand comes the lot for Jerusalem, to open the mouth with a cry, to lift up the voice with shouting, to set battering rams against the gates, to cast up mounds, to build siege towers.23 But to them it will seem like a false divination; they have sworn solemn oaths; but he brings their guilt to remembrance, that they may be captured.24 "Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Because you have made your guilt to be remembered, in that your transgressions are uncovered, so that in all your doings your sins appear--because you have come to remembrance, you shall be taken in them.25 And you, O unhallowed wicked one, prince of Israel, whose day has come, the time of your final punishment,26 thus says the Lord GOD: Remove the turban, and take off the crown; things shall not remain as they are; exalt that which is low, and abase that which is high.27 A ruin, ruin, ruin I will make it; there shall not be even a trace of it until he comes whose right it is; and to him I will give it.28 "And you, son of man, prophesy, and say, Thus says the Lord GOD concerning the Ammonites, and concerning their reproach; say, A sword, a sword is drawn for the slaughter, it is polished to glitter and to flash like lightning--29 while they see for you false visions, while they divine lies for you--to be laid on the necks of the unhallowed wicked, whose day has come, the time of their final punishment.30 Return it to its sheath. In the place where you were created, in the land of your origin, I will judge you.31 And I will pour out my indignation upon you; I will blow upon you with the fire of my wrath; and I will deliver you into the hands of brutal men, skilful to destroy.32 You shall be fuel for the fire; your blood shall be in the midst of the land; you shall be no more remembered; for I the LORD have spoken."

1 O Senhor me disse o seguinte:

2 — Homem mortal, fale contra Jerusalém. Fale contra os lugares onde o povo adora. Avise a terra de Israel 3 que eu, o Senhor, estou dizendo isto: "Eu estou contra vocês. Vou tirar a minha espada e matar todos, tanto os bons como os maus. 4 Usarei a minha espada contra todos, do Sul ao Norte. 5 Todos ficarão sabendo que eu, o Senhor, tirei a minha espada da bainha e que não vou guardá-la."

6 — Homem mortal, fique gemendo como se o seu coração estivesse arrebentando de desespero. Vá para um lugar onde todos possam ver você e solte gemidos de tristeza. 7 Quando perguntarem por que você está gemendo, responda que é por causa daquilo que vai acontecer. Diga que eles perderão a coragem. Os corações deles ficarão cheios de medo, os braços ficarão moles e os joelhos tremerão. O tempo chegou; já está aqui. Eu, o Senhor Deus, estou falando.

8 O Senhor me disse o seguinte:

9 — Homem mortal, profetize. Diga ao povo que eu, o Senhor, estou dizendo isto:

"A espada, a espada está afiada e brilhando.

10 Ela está afiada para matar

e polida para brilhar como relâmpago.

Não pode haver alegria,

pois o meu povo rejeitou todos os conselhos e castigos.

11 A espada está sendo polida,

está pronta para ser usada.

Está afiada e polida

para ser posta nas mãos de um matador.

12 Grite e solte gemidos, homem mortal;

essa espada é para atacar o meu povo

e todos os líderes de Israel.

Eles serão mortos com todo o resto do meu povo.

Bata no peito em sinal de desespero.

13 Estou pondo o meu povo à prova;

se não quiserem se arrepender,

todas essas coisas acontecerão a eles.

Sou eu, o Senhor Deus, quem está falando."

14 — Agora, homem mortal, profetize. Bata palmas, e a espada ferirá muitas vezes. É uma espada que mata, uma espada que produz terror e matança. 15 Ela faz o meu povo perder a coragem e tropeçar. Estou ameaçando a cidade deles com a espada que brilha como o relâmpago e que está pronta para matar. 16 Espada afiada, corte à direita e à esquerda! Corte em todos os lados para onde você virar. 17 Eu também baterei palmas, e a minha ira passará. Eu, o Senhor, falei.

18 O Senhor me disse o seguinte:

19 — Homem mortal, marque duas estradas por onde o rei da Babilônia poderá vir com a sua espada. As duas devem começar no mesmo país. Ponha placas indicando onde as estradas se dividem em duas. 20 Uma placa mostrará ao rei o caminho para a cidade amonita de Rabá, e a outra, para Jerusalém, a cidade cercada de muralhas, que fica em Judá. 21 O rei da Babilônia para na encruzilhada da estrada. E, a fim de saber que caminho tomar, ele sacode as flechas , faz perguntas aos seus deuses e examina o fígado de um animal que foi oferecido em sacrifício. 22 Agora, a sua mão direita está segurando a flecha marcada com a palavra "Jerusalém". É para o rei da Babilônia ir, soltar gritos de guerra, preparar máquinas de derrubar muralhas, colocá-las na frente dos portões e levantar rampas e torres de ataque. 23 O povo de Jerusalém não quer acreditar nisso por causa dos acordos que eles fizeram. Mas esta profecia é para fazer com que lembrem dos seus pecados, é um sinal de que serão presos. 24 Isso é o que eu, o Senhor Deus, estou dizendo. Todos podem ver os seus pecados. Todo o mundo sabe o quanto vocês são culpados. Em cada ação que praticam, vocês mostram os seus pecados. Vocês estão condenados, e eu os entregarei aos seus inimigos.

25 — Você, governador de Israel , é perverso e não teme a Deus, e por isso o seu dia, o dia do seu castigo final, também está chegando. 26 A sua coroa e o seu turbante serão tirados. As coisas não vão continuar como estão. Os pobres terão poder, e os que estão no poder serão rebaixados. 27 Destruição! Destruição! Sim! Destruirei a cidade. Mas isso não acontecerá até que venha aquele a quem vou entregar a cidade. Eu, o Senhor Deus, falei.

28 — Homem mortal, profetize. Anuncie aquilo que eu, o Senhor Deus, estou dizendo aos amonitas, que estão insultando o povo de Israel. Diga isto:

"A espada está pronta para destruir;

está polida para matar

e para brilhar como o relâmpago."

29 — Amonitas, as suas visões são falsas, e as profecias que fazem são mentiras. Vocês são maus e perversos. O seu dia está chegando, o dia do seu castigo final. A espada cairá sobre o pescoço de vocês.

30 — Amonitas, ponham a sua espada na bainha. Eu os julgarei no lugar onde foram criados, na terra onde nasceram. 31 Quando a minha ira cair sobre vocês, ela os queimará como labaredas de fogo. Eu os entregarei a homens violentos, preparados para destruir. 32 Vocês serão destruídos pelo fogo. O seu sangue será derramado no seu próprio país, e ninguém nunca mais lembrará de vocês. Eu, o Senhor, falei.
