1 Afterward he brought me to the gate, the gate facing east.2 And behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the east; and the sound of his coming was like the sound of many waters; and the earth shone with his glory.3 And the vision I saw was like the vision which I had seen when he came to destroy the city, and like the vision which I had seen by the river Chebar; and I fell upon my face.4 As the glory of the LORD entered the temple by the gate facing east,5 the Spirit lifted me up, and brought me into the inner court; and behold, the glory of the LORD filled the temple.6 While the man was standing beside me, I heard one speaking to me out of the temple;7 and he said to me, "Son of man, this is the place of my throne and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the people of Israel for ever. And the house of Israel shall no more defile my holy name, neither they, nor their kings, by their harlotry, and by the dead bodies of their kings,8 by setting their threshold by my threshold and their doorposts beside my doorposts, with only a wall between me and them. They have defiled my holy name by their abominations which they have committed, so I have consumed them in my anger.9 Now let them put away their idolatry and the dead bodies of their kings far from me, and I will dwell in their midst for ever.10 "And you, son of man, describe to the house of Israel the temple and its appearance and plan, that they may be ashamed of their iniquities.11 And if they are ashamed of all that they have done, portray the temple, its arrangement, its exits and its entrances, and its whole form; and make known to them all its ordinances and all its laws; and write it down in their sight, so that they may observe and perform all its laws and all its ordinances.12 This is the law of the temple: the whole territory round about upon the top of the mountain shall be most holy. Behold, this is the law of the temple.13 "These are the dimensions of the altar by cubits (the cubit being a cubit and a handbreadth): its base shall be one cubit high, and one cubit broad, with a rim of one span around its edge. And this shall be the height of the altar:14 from the base on the ground to the lower ledge, two cubits, with a breadth of one cubit; and from the smaller ledge to the larger ledge, four cubits, with a breadth of one cubit;15 and the altar hearth, four cubits; and from the altar hearth projecting upward, four horns, one cubit high.16 The altar hearth shall be square, twelve cubits long by twelve broad.17 The ledge also shall be square, fourteen cubits long by fourteen broad, with a rim around it half a cubit broad, and its base one cubit round about. The steps of the altar shall face east."18 And he said to me, "Son of man, thus says the Lord GOD: These are the ordinances for the altar: On the day when it is erected for offering burnt offerings upon it and for throwing blood against it,19 you shall give to the Levitical priests of the family of Zadok, who draw near to me to minister to me, says the Lord GOD, a bull for a sin offering.20 And you shall take some of its blood, and put it on the four horns of the altar, and on the four corners of the ledge, and upon the rim round about; thus you shall cleanse the altar and make atonement for it.21 You shall also take the bull of the sin offering, and it shall be burnt in the appointed place belonging to the temple, outside the sacred area.22 And on the second day you shall offer a he-goat without blemish for a sin offering; and the altar shall be cleansed, as it was cleansed with the bull.23 When you have finished cleansing it, you shall offer a bull without blemish and a ram from the flock without blemish.24 You shall present them before the LORD, and the priests shall sprinkle salt upon them and offer them up as a burnt offering to the LORD.25 For seven days you shall provide daily a goat for a sin offering; also a bull and a ram from the flock, without blemish, shall be provided.26 Seven days shall they make atonement for the altar and purify it, and so consecrate it.27 And when they have completed these days, then from the eighth day onward the priests shall offer upon the altar your burnt offerings and your peace offerings; and I will accept you, says the Lord GOD."

1 O homem me levou até o portão do lado leste, 2 e eu vi que daquele lado vinha vindo a glória do Deus de Israel. A voz de Deus parecia o rugido do mar, e a terra ficou iluminada com a sua glória. 3 Essa visão foi parecida com aquela que eu tive quando Deus veio para destruir Jerusalém. Também foi parecida com aquela que eu tive na beira do rio Quebar. Então caí de comprido no chão. 4 A glória do Senhor passou pelo portão do lado leste e entrou no Templo.

5 Então o Espírito de Deus me levantou e me levou até o pátio de dentro, e eu vi que o Templo estava cheio da glória do Senhor. 6 O homem ficou ali ao meu lado, e eu ouvi o Senhor me dizer de dentro do Templo:

7 — Homem mortal, o meu trono está neste lugar. Vou morar aqui no meio do povo de Israel e vou governá-lo para sempre. O povo de Israel e os seus reis nunca mais tornarão impuro o meu santo nome, adorando outros deuses, nem sepultando perto do Templo os corpos dos seus reis. 8 Os reis construíram a entrada e os pilares do seu palácio encostados na entrada e nos pilares do meu Templo, e assim entre nós ficou apenas uma parede. Eles profanaram o meu santo nome por causa de todas as coisas vergonhosas que fizeram, e por isso na minha ira eu os destruí. 9 Agora, eles que deixem de adorar outros deuses e levem para longe os corpos dos seus reis. Se fizerem isso, eu viverei no meio deles para sempre.

10 E o Senhor continuou:

— Homem mortal, fale com o povo de Israel a respeito do Templo, para que eles estudem a sua planta. Faça com que fiquem envergonhados por causa dos seus pecados. 11 Se eles ficarem com vergonha do que têm feito, explique a planta do Templo para eles, isto é, o seu modelo, as entradas e saídas, as formas, o modo como tudo está arrumado e todas as leis e regulamentos. Escreva todas essas coisas para que eles possam ver como tudo está arrumado e para que cumpram todos os regulamentos. 12 Esta é a lei do Templo: todo o terreno que fica em volta dele no alto da montanha é santo e sagrado.

13 Seguem as medidas do altar, usando-se as mesmas que foram usadas para medir o Templo. Na base do altar, em toda a volta, havia uma valeta de meio metro de fundura por meio metro de largura. Do lado de fora havia uma beirada de vinte e cinco centímetros de altura. 14 A parte mais baixa do altar tinha um metro de altura. A parte do meio media dois metros de altura e estava afastada meio metro da beirada, em toda a volta. A parte de cima também estava afastada meio metro da beirada, em toda a volta. 15 Essa parte de cima também tinha dois metros de altura, e sobre ela eram queimados os sacrifícios. Os quatro cantos dessa parte eram salientes e virados para cima. 16 A parte de cima do altar era quadrada, medindo seis metros de cada lado. 17 A parte do meio também era quadrada, medindo sete metros de cada lado. Em volta dela havia uma beirada de vinte e cinco centímetros de altura. A valeta media meio metro de largura. Os degraus do altar ficavam no lado leste.

18 O Senhor Deus me disse:

— Homem mortal, escute o que estou lhe dizendo. Quando o altar estiver construído, você vai consagrá-lo, queimando sacrifícios em cima dele e borrifando nele o sangue dos animais que forem sacrificados. 19 Só os sacerdotes da tribo de Levi que são descendentes de Zadoque poderão vir até a minha presença para me servir. Eu, o Senhor Deus, ordeno isso. Você lhes dará um touro novo para oferecerem como sacrifício para tirar pecados. 20 Você pegará um pouco do sangue desse touro e porá nas pontas da parte de cima do altar e nas pontas da parte do meio do altar e em toda a volta das suas beiradas. Dessa maneira, você purificará o altar e o consagrará. 21 Você pegará o touro que for oferecido como sacrifício para tirar pecados e o queimará no lugar marcado, fora da área do Templo. 22 No dia seguinte, você pegará um bode sem defeito e o oferecerá como sacrifício para tirar pecados. Purifique o altar com o sangue dele, do mesmo modo que você tiver feito com o sangue do touro. 23 Quando terminar essa parte, pegue um touro novo e um carneirinho, os dois sem defeito, 24 e traga-os para mim, o Senhor. Depois de matarem os animais, os sacerdotes espalharão sal sobre eles e os queimarão como oferta para mim. 25 Sete dias em seguida, você oferecerá um bode, um touro e um carneirinho como sacrifícios para tirar pecados. Esses animais não devem ter nenhum defeito. 26 Durante sete dias, os sacerdotes consagrarão o altar e o aprontarão para ser usado. 27 Depois dessa semana, os sacerdotes começarão a oferecer sobre o altar as ofertas que serão completamente queimadas e as ofertas de paz trazidas pelo povo. Então ficarei contente com todos vocês. Eu, o Senhor Deus, falei.
