1 In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah: "We have a strong city; he sets up salvation as walls and bulwarks.2 Open the gates, that the righteous nation which keeps faith may enter in.3 Thou dost keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee, because he trusts in thee.4 Trust in the LORD for ever, for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock.5 For he has brought low the inhabitants of the height, the lofty city. He lays it low, lays it low to the ground, casts it to the dust.6 The foot tramples it, the feet of the poor, the steps of the needy."7 The way of the righteous is level; thou dost make smooth the path of the righteous.8 In the path of thy judgments, O LORD, we wait for thee; thy memorial name is the desire of our soul.9 My soul yearns for thee in the night, my spirit within me earnestly seeks thee. For when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.10 If favor is shown to the wicked, he does not learn righteousness; in the land of uprightness he deals perversely and does not see the majesty of the LORD.11 O LORD, thy hand is lifted up, but they see it not. Let them see thy zeal for thy people, and be ashamed. Let the fire for thy adversaries consume them.12 O LORD, thou wilt ordain peace for us, thou hast wrought for us all our works.13 O LORD our God, other lords besides thee have ruled over us, but thy name alone we acknowledge.14 They are dead, they will not live; they are shades, they will not arise; to that end thou hast visited them with destruction and wiped out all remembrance of them.15 But thou hast increased the nation, O LORD, thou hast increased the nation; thou art glorified; thou hast enlarged all the borders of the land.16 O LORD, in distress they sought thee, they poured out a prayer when thy chastening was upon them.17 Like a woman with child, who writhes and cries out in her pangs, when she is near her time, so were we because of thee, O LORD;18 we were with child, we writhed, we have as it were brought forth wind. We have wrought no deliverance in the earth, and the inhabitants of the world have not fallen.19 Thy dead shall live, their bodies shall rise. O dwellers in the dust, awake and sing for joy! For thy dew is a dew of light, and on the land of the shades thou wilt let it fall.20 Come, my people, enter your chambers, and shut your doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while until the wrath is past.21 For behold, the LORD is coming forth out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity, and the earth will disclose the blood shed upon her, and will no more cover her slain.

1 Naquele dia, o povo de Judá cantará este hino:

A nossa cidade é forte!

Deus nos protege com altas muralhas.

2 Abram os portões da cidade

e deixem entrar o povo que é fiel a Deus

e que faz o que é direito.

3 Tu, ó Senhor, dás paz e prosperidade

às pessoas que têm uma fé firme,

às pessoas que confiam em ti.

4 Confiem sempre no Senhor,

pois ele é o nosso eterno abrigo.

5 Ele rebaixou os vaidosos

e humilhou a cidade orgulhosa em que moravam.

Ele derrubou e arrasou a cidade deles,

6 e agora os pobres e os necessitados pisam as suas ruínas.

7 O caminho das pessoas direitas é fácil;

tu, ó Deus justo, tornas plano o caminho por onde elas andam.

8 Ó Senhor, nós seguimos o caminho das tuas leis

e em ti pomos a nossa esperança;

o nosso maior desejo é conhecer-te

e pensar em ti.

9 Com todo o meu coração,

quero estar contigo de noite;

com todo o meu ser, procuro conhecer a tua vontade.

Pois, quando julgas e castigas o mundo,

os seus moradores aprendem o que é justiça.

10 Ainda que tenhas compaixão dos maus,

mesmo assim eles não aprendem a fazer o que é certo.

Mesmo aqui neste país onde o povo é direito,

eles continuam a fazer o que é mau

e não se importam com a grandeza de Deus, o Senhor.

11 Ó Senhor, tu tens a mão levantada para castigar,

mas os teus inimigos não notam isso.

Porém, quando virem o grande amor que tens pelo teu povo,

então ficarão envergonhados.

Que o fogo da tua ira os devore!

12 Ó Senhor, tu nos fazes prosperar;

tudo o que conseguimos é feito por ti.

13 Ó Senhor, nosso Deus,

temos sido dominados por outros povos e pelos seus deuses,

mas confessamos que só tu és o nosso Deus.

14 Aqueles povos estão mortos, não voltarão a viver;

são somente sombras, não ressuscitarão.

Pois tu os castigaste e destruíste,

e ninguém lembra mais deles.

15 Tu, ó Senhor, fizeste a nossa nação ficar maior;

aumentaste o território do nosso país,

e isso trouxe glória para o teu nome.

16 Castigaste o teu povo, ó Senhor;

na nossa aflição, oramos a ti.

17 Como uma mulher que está dando à luz

se torce e grita de dor,

assim estávamos nós por causa de ti, ó Senhor.

18 Nós sofremos dores de parto e nos torcemos,

mas não demos nada à luz.

Não conseguimos nenhuma vitória para o nosso país,

nem fizemos aumentar o número de pessoas na terra.

19 Os mortos do nosso povo voltarão a viver;

os seus corpos ressuscitarão.

Os que estão no mundo dos mortos

acordarão e cantarão de alegria.

Como o orvalho que tu envias dá vida à terra,

assim de dentro da terra os mortos sairão vivos.

20 Meu povo, vão para as suas casas e tranquem as portas;

escondam-se por algum tempo

até que passe a ira de Deus.

21 Porque o Senhor Deus virá da sua morada, no céu,

a fim de castigar os moradores da terra por causa dos seus pecados.

Pois a terra não esconderá mais os que foram mortos,

mas deixará que apareçam todos os crimes de sangue.
