1 Draw near, O nations, to hear, and hearken, O peoples! Let the earth listen, and all that fills it; the world, and all that comes from it.2 For the LORD is enraged against all the nations, and furious against all their host, he has doomed them, has given them over for slaughter.3 Their slain shall be cast out, and the stench of their corpses shall rise; the mountains shall flow with their blood.4 All the host of heaven shall rot away, and the skies roll up like a scroll. All their host shall fall, as leaves fall from the vine, like leaves falling from the fig tree.5 For my sword has drunk its fill in the heavens; behold, it descends for judgment upon Edom, upon the people I have doomed.6 The LORD has a sword; it is sated with blood, it is gorged with fat, with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams. For the LORD has a sacrifice in Bozrah, a great slaughter in the land of Edom.7 Wild oxen shall fall with them, and young steers with the mighty bulls. Their land shall be soaked with blood, and their soil made rich with fat.8 For the LORD has a day of vengeance, a year of recompense for the cause of Zion.9 And the streams of Edom shall be turned into pitch, and her soil into brimstone; her land shall become burning pitch.10 Night and day it shall not be quenched; its smoke shall go up for ever. From generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever.11 But the hawk and the porcupine shall possess it, the owl and the raven shall dwell in it. He shall stretch the line of confusion over it, and the plummet of chaos over its nobles.12 They shall name it No Kingdom There, and all its princes shall be nothing.13 Thorns shall grow over its strongholds, nettles and thistles in its fortresses. It shall be the haunt of jackals, an abode for ostriches.14 And wild beasts shall meet with hyenas, the satyr shall cry to his fellow; yea, there shall the night hag alight, and find for herself a resting place.15 There shall the owl nest and lay and hatch and gather her young in her shadow; yea, there shall the kites be gathered, each one with her mate.16 Seek and read from the book of the LORD: Not one of these shall be missing; none shall be without her mate. For the mouth of the LORD has commanded, and his Spirit has gathered them.17 He has cast the lot for them, his hand has portioned it out to them with the line; they shall possess it for ever, from generation to generation they shall dwell in it.

1 Venham, nações, e escutem,

reúnam-se, povos, e prestem atenção!

Que a terra inteira escute,

e que ouçam todos os que nela vivem!

2 O Senhor está irado com todas as nações,

está furioso com todos os seus exércitos;

ele já os condenou à morte e à destruição.

3 Os mortos ficarão onde caíram,

e o mau cheiro se espalhará por toda parte;

rios de sangue descerão das montanhas.

4 O sol, a lua e as estrelas serão destruídos,

o céu se enrolará como a página de um livro.

Todas as estrelas cairão do céu,

como caem as folhas da parreira ou da figueira.

5 A espada do Senhor está pronta no céu.

O Senhor condenou o povo de Edom à destruição

e com a sua espada matará os edomitas.

6 A espada ficará coberta de sangue e de gordura,

como acontece com o sangue e a gordura das ovelhas e dos cabritos

que são oferecidos em sacrifício.

O Senhor matará os edomitas

e os oferecerá como sacrifício na cidade de Bosra.

7 Com eles, também serão mortos os bois selvagens,

os bezerros e os touros novos;

a terra ficará encharcada de sangue,

e o chão ficará coberto de gordura.

8 Pois esse será o dia da vingança de Deus, o Senhor,

o dia em que ele acertará as contas com os inimigos de Sião.

9 Os rios de Edom vão virar piche,

a terra vai virar enxofre;

o país inteiro queimará como piche.

10 O fogo nunca se apagará,

e a fumaça não parará de subir.

O país ficará arrasado para sempre,

e nunca mais ninguém passará por ele.

11 Corujas e corvos serão os donos do país

e construirão os seus ninhos por toda parte.

O Senhor fará com que o país

seja de novo um lugar vazio, sem nenhum ser vivente,

como era no começo da criação do mundo.

12 Edom não terá um rei para governá-lo,

e ali já não existirão mais autoridades.

13 Espinheiros crescerão nas mansões,

o mato tomará conta das fortalezas;

Edom será um lugar onde viverão raposas e avestruzes.

14 Os gatos do mato e outros animais selvagens morarão ali;

demônios chamarão uns aos outros,

e ali a bruxa do deserto encontrará um lugar para descansar.

15 Ali as corujas farão os seus ninhos,

porão ovos, e os chocarão,

e abrigarão os filhotes debaixo das suas asas;

ali também os urubus se juntarão,

cada um com os seus companheiros.

16 Procurem no livro do Senhor e leiam:

nenhuma dessas criaturas ficará faltando,

todas estarão lá com os seus companheiros.

Pois o Senhor ordenou que assim fosse,

e o seu Espírito as ajuntará.

17 O Senhor dividirá a terra de Edom entre elas

e dará a cada uma a sua parte.

Ali elas viverão por séculos e séculos,

e aquela terra será delas para sempre.
