1 *Dom 2:11, 3:12, 4:1, 6:1, 8:33, 10:6. Israels barn gjorde åter det som var ont i Herrens ögon, och Herren gav dem i filisteernas hand i fyrtio år.*13:1i filisteernas hand i fyrtio årKanske ca 1095-1055 f Kr (fram till Samuel och Saul, 1 Sam 7:7f).

2 I Sorga levde en man som hette Manoa, han var av daniternas släkt. Hans hustru var ofruktsam och hade inte fött några barn. 3 Men Herrens ängel uppenbarade sig för hustrun och sade till henne: "Se, du är ofruktsam och har inte fött några barn, men du ska bli havande och föda en son. 4 *4 Mos 6:2f, Dom 16:17, 1 Sam 1:11, Luk 1:15. Se nu till att du inte dricker vin eller starka drycker eller äter något orent. 5 För se, du ska bli havande och föda en son. Ingen rakkniv ska röra hans huvud, för pojken ska vara en Guds nasir*13:5nasirEn nasir visade med sitt långa hår att han var avskild för Gud. Man skulle avhålla sig från vin (vers 14) och orenhet från döda, regler som gällde präster i tjänst. Se 4 Mos 6. redan från moderlivet. Han ska påbörja räddningen av Israel ur filisteernas hand."

6 Då gick hustrun in och berättade det för sin man och sade: "En gudsman kom till mig. Han såg ut som en Guds ängel, mycket respektingivande. Jag frågade honom inte varifrån han var, och han lät mig inte veta sitt namn. 7 Han sade till mig: Se, du ska bli havande och föda en son. Drick nu inte vin eller starka drycker och ät inte något orent, för pojken ska vara en Guds nasir från moderlivet ända till sin död." 8 Då bad Manoa till Herren: "O Herre, låt gudsmannen som du sände hit komma tillbaka till oss och lära oss hur vi ska göra med pojken som ska födas."

9 Gud lyssnade till Manoas röst. Guds ängel kom tillbaka till hans hustru när hon satt ute på marken och hennes man Manoa inte var hos henne. 10 Då skyndade hustrun genast i väg och berättade det för sin man och sade till honom: "Se, mannen som kom till mig häromdagen har uppenbarat sig för mig." 11 Manoa reste sig och följde med sin hustru. När han kom till mannen, frågade han honom: "Är du den man som talade med min hustru?" Han svarade: "Ja." 12 Då sade Manoa: "När det nu går som du har sagt, vad är det då som gäller för pojken? Vad ska vi göra med honom?*13:12Vad ska vi göra med honom?Annan översättning: "Vad ska han göra?"." 13 Herrens ängel svarade Manoa: "Din hustru ska följa allt som jag sagt henne. 14 Hon ska inte äta något som växer på vinstocken, och vin eller starka drycker får hon inte dricka, inte heller får hon äta något orent. Allt som jag befallt henne ska hon följa."

15 *Dom 6:18. Manoa sade till Herrens ängel: "Låt oss få hålla dig kvar, så tillagar vi en killing åt dig." 16 Men Herrens ängel svarade Manoa: "Även om du håller mig kvar kommer jag inte att äta av din mat. Men om du vill ordna ett brännoffer, så offra det åt Herren." Manoa hade nämligen inte förstått att det var Herrens ängel. 17 *1 Mos 32:29f. Manoa sade till Herrens ängel: "Vad är ditt namn? Vi vill ära dig när det du har sagt går i uppfyllelse." 18 *1 Mos 32:29, Jes 9:6, 28:29, 29:14.Herrens ängel sade till honom: "Varför frågar du efter mitt namn? Mitt namn är Underbar*13:18UnderbarJfr Jes 9:6. Annan översättning: "ofattbart".."

19 *Dom 6:19f. Manoa tog killingen och matoffret och offrade det på klippan åt Herren. Då lät han något underbart ske inför ögonen på Manoa och hans hustru. 20 När lågan steg från altaret mot himlen, steg Herrens ängel upp i lågan från altaret. Manoa och hans hustru såg det, och de föll ner till jorden på sitt ansikte. 21 Sedan visade sig Herrens ängel inte mer för Manoa och hans hustru. Och Manoa förstod att det var Herrens ängel. 22 *2 Mos 33:20f, 5 Mos 5:26, Dom 6:22. Manoa sade till sin hustru: "Nu måste vi dö, eftersom vi har sett Gud." 23 Men hans hustru svarade honom: "Om Herren hade velat döda oss skulle han inte ha tagit emot brännoffer och matoffer från vår hand, och inte låtit oss se allt detta eller höra något sådant."

24 Sedan födde hans hustru en son och gav honom namnet Simson*13:24SimsonBetyder ungefär "sol". Hans hemstad Sorga låg ca 2,5 mil väster om Jerusalem, strax norr om staden Bet-Shemesh ("solens hus", kanske uppkallad efter ett soltempel).. Pojken växte upp, och Herren välsignade honom. 25 *Dom 18:11f.Herrens Ande började verka på honom medan han var i Dans läger, mellan Sorga och Eshtaol.

2 And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and bare not. 3 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son. 4 Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing: 5 For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb: and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.

6 Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came unto me, and his countenance was like the countenance of an angel of God, very terrible: but I asked him not whence he was, neither told he me his name: 7 But he said unto me, Behold, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink, neither eat any unclean thing: for the child shall be a Nazarite to God from the womb to the day of his death.

8 Then Manoah intreated the LORD, and said, O my Lord, let the man of God which thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born. 9 And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah; and the angel of God came again unto the woman as she sat in the field: but Manoah her husband was not with her. 10 And the woman made haste, and ran, and shewed her husband, and said unto him, Behold, the man hath appeared unto me, that came unto me the other day. 11 And Manoah arose, and went after his wife, and came to the man, and said unto him, Art thou the man that spakest unto the woman? And he said, I am. 12 And Manoah said, Now let thy words come to pass. How shall we order the child, and how shall we do unto him?*13.12 How shall we order…: Heb. What shall be the manner of the, etc*13.12 how shall we do…: or, what shall he do?: Heb. what shall be his work? 13 And the angel of the LORD said unto Manoah, Of all that I said unto the woman let her beware. 14 She may not eat of any thing that cometh of the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing: all that I commanded her let her observe.

15 And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, I pray thee, let us detain thee, until we shall have made ready a kid for thee.*13.15 for thee: Heb. before thee 16 And the angel of the LORD said unto Manoah, Though thou detain me, I will not eat of thy bread: and if thou wilt offer a burnt offering, thou must offer it unto the LORD. For Manoah knew not that he was an angel of the LORD. 17 And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, What is thy name, that when thy sayings come to pass we may do thee honour? 18 And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is secret?*13.18 secret: or, wonderful 19 So Manoah took a kid with a meat offering, and offered it upon a rock unto the LORD: and the angel did wondrously; and Manoah and his wife looked on. 20 For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame of the altar. And Manoah and his wife looked on it, and fell on their faces to the ground. 21 But the angel of the LORD did no more appear to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was an angel of the LORD. 22 And Manoah said unto his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God. 23 But his wife said unto him, If the LORD were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a meat offering at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things, nor would as at this time have told us such things as these.

24 And the woman bare a son, and called his name Samson: and the child grew, and the LORD blessed him. 25 And the Spirit of the LORD began to move him at times in the camp of Dan between Zorah and Eshtaol.*13.25 the camp…: Heb. Mahaneh-dan
