A vaidade da vida

1 Disse eu: *Sl 119.9;1Rs 2.4;2Rs 10.31Guardarei os meus caminhos,

para não *Sl 34.13;Jó 2.10;Tg 3.5-12pecar com a minha língua.

Guardarei a *Sl 141.3;Tg 3.2minha boca com uma mordaça,

enquanto o iníquo estiver diante de mim.

2 *Sl 38.13Emudeci no silêncio da resignação, fiquei calado ainda a respeito do bem,

e a minha mágoa se agravou.

3 *Sl 32.4;Jr 20.9;Lc 24.32Escandesceu-se o meu coração dentro de mim;

enquanto eu meditava, acendeu-se o fogo.

Então, disse eu com a minha língua:

4 Faze-me conhecer, Jeová, *Sl 90.12;119.84;Jó 6.11o meu fim,

e a medida dos meus dias, qual é.

Possa eu saber quão *Sl 78.39;103.14frágil sou.

5 Eis que deste aos *Sl 89.47meus dias o comprimento de algumas palmas de mão,

e *Sl 144.4o tempo da minha vida é como nada diante de ti.

Na verdade, todo homem, por mais firme que esteja, é totalmente *Sl 62.9;Jó 14.2;Ec 6.12vaidade. (Selá)

7 Agora, Jeová, que espero eu?

A minha *Sl 38.15esperança está em ti.

8 *Sl 51.9,14;79.9Livra-me de todas as minhas transgressões;

não me faças o *Sl 44.13;79.4;119.22opróbrio do insensato.

9 *Sl 39.2Emudeci, não abri a minha boca,

porquanto *2Sm 16.10;Jó 2.10tu o fizeste.

10 *Jó 9.34;13.21Tira de sobre mim o teu flagelo.

*Sl 32.4Pelo golpe da tua mão, eu estou consumido.

11 Quando, com *Ez 5.15;2Pe 2.16repreensões, castigas o homem por causa da iniquidade,

*Sl 90.7;Jó 13.28;Is 50.9destróis, como traça, o que ele tem de precioso.

e dá ouvidos ao meu clamor por teu socorro.

Não sejas surdo às minhas *Sl 56.8;2Rs 20.5lágrimas,

porque eu sou para contigo um peregrino,

8 Deliver me from all my transgressions: make me not the reproach of the foolish.

9 I was dumb, I opened not my mouth; because thou didst it.

12 Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear unto my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears: for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were.

13 O spare me, that I may recover strength, before I go hence, and be no more.
