1,2 Ο Κύριος έδωσε στο Μωυσή για τους Ισραηλίτες τις ακόλουθες οδηγίες:

Αν μια γυναίκα μείνει έγκυος και γεννήσει αγόρι, θα είναι ακάθαρτη για εφτά μέρες, όπως συμβαίνει και με τις ημέρες της περιόδου της. 3 Την όγδοη μέρα θα γίνει η περιτομή του παιδιού. 4 Θα παραμείνει στο σπίτι τριάντα τρεις ακόμη μέρες για τον καθαρισμό της από το αίμα· δεν θ’ αγγίξει τίποτε άγιο, ούτε θα μπει στο αγιαστήριο, ωσότου συμπληρωθούν οι μέρες του καθαρισμού της. 5 Αν γεννήσει κορίτσι, θα είναι ακάθαρτη δύο βδομάδες, όπως και κατά το χρόνο της περιόδου της, και θα παραμείνει στο σπίτι εξήντα έξι ακόμη μέρες για τον καθαρισμό της από το αίμα. 6 Όταν συμπληρωθεί ο χρόνος του καθαρισμού της, είτε πρόκειται για γιο είτε για κόρη, πρέπει να προσφέρει στον ιερέα στην είσοδο της σκηνής του μαρτυρίου ως θυσία ολοκαυτώματος ένα αρνί ενός έτους και ένα πιτσούνι ή τρυγόνι ως θυσία εξιλέωσης. 7 Ο ιερέας θα τα προσφέρει ενώπιον του Κυρίου και θα κάνει την τελετουργία για την εξιλέωσή της. Έτσι η γυναίκα θα καθαριστεί από τη ροή του αίματός της. Αυτός είναι ο νόμος σχετικά με τη γυναίκα που θα γεννήσει αγόρι ή κορίτσι. 8 Αν δεν έχει τη δυνατότητα να προσφέρει αρνί, τότε θα προσφέρει δύο τρυγόνια ή δύο περιστέρια, το ένα για τη θυσία του ολοκαυτώματος και το άλλο για τη θυσία εξιλέωσης. Ο ιερέας θα κάνει γι’ αυτήν την τελετουργία του εξιλασμού και η γυναίκα θα καθαριστεί.

1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 2 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a woman have conceived seed, and born a man child: then she shall be unclean seven days; according to the days of the separation for her infirmity shall she be unclean. 3 And in the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised. 4 And she shall then continue in the blood of her purifying three and thirty days; she shall touch no hallowed thing, nor come into the sanctuary, until the days of her purifying be fulfilled. 5 But if she bear a maid child, then she shall be unclean two weeks, as in her separation: and she shall continue in the blood of her purifying threescore and six days.
