1 Ο Κύριος είπε στο Μωυσή: 2 «Δώσε εντολή στους Ισραηλίτες να σου φέρουν λάδι καθαρό από κοπανιστές ελιές για το φως της λυχνίας, ώστε να είναι αναμμένη διαρκώς. 3 Ο Ααρών θα φροντίζει ώστε έξω από το καταπέτασμα όπου φυλάσσεται ο νόμος, στη σκηνή του Μαρτυρίου, το φως να καίει συνεχώς, από το βράδυ ως το πρωί, ενώπιον του Κυρίου. Αυτός θα είναι νόμος παντοτινός για σας και για τους απογόνους σας. 4 Θα φροντίζει τα λυχνάρια που βρίσκονται πάνω στη λυχνία, τη φτιαγμένη από καθαρό χρυσάφι, ώστε να καίνε διαρκώς ενώπιον του Κυρίου».

5 «Θα πάρεις σιμιγδάλι και θα ψήσεις μ’ αυτό δώδεκα άρτους· δύο δέκατα του εφά σιμιγδάλι για κάθε άρτο. 6 Θα τους τοποθετήσεις ενώπιον του Κυρίου σε δύο στήλες, από έξι στην καθεμιά, πάνω στην τράπεζα τη φτιαγμένη από καθαρό χρυσάφι. 7 Πάνω σε κάθε στήλη θα βάλεις καθαρό λιβάνι, και αυτό θα καίγεται για να θυμίζει ότι όλοι αυτοί οι άρτοι ανήκουν στον Κύριο. 8 Κάθε Σάββατο, και για πάντα, οι άρτοι θα τοποθετούνται εκ νέου ενώπιον του Κυρίου. Αυτή είναι μια διαθήκη παντοτινή, για τους Ισραηλίτες. 9 Τα ψωμιά αυτά θα ανήκουν στον Ααρών και στους απογόνους του. Θα τα τρώνε σε τόπο ιερό, επειδή είναι γι’ αυτούς αγιότατο μερίδιο από τις θυσίες που γίνονται με φωτιά για τον Κύριο· είναι νόμος παντοτινός».

10,11 Κάποτε έγινε στο στρατόπεδο φιλονικία ανάμεσα σ’ έναν Ισραηλίτη και στο γιο ενός Αιγύπτιου και μιας Ισραηλίτισσας, που το όνομά της ήταν Σελωμείθ, κόρη του Διβρή, από τη φυλή Δαν. Ο γιος της Ισραηλίτισσας βλαστήμησε το όνομα του Κυρίου. Τον έφεραν λοιπόν στο Μωυσή 12 και τον έβαλαν στη φυλακή περιμένοντας μια συγκεκριμένη εντολή από τον Κύριο.

13 Τότε ο Κύριος είπε στο Μωυσή: 14 «Βγάλε έξω από το στρατόπεδο εκείνον που έβρισε· κι όλοι όσοι τον άκουσαν ας βάλουν τα χέρια τους στο κεφάλι του κι ας τον λιθοβολήσει όλη η κοινότητα. 15 Έπειτα θα πεις στους Ισραηλίτες:

»Όποιος βρίσει το Θεό του θα είναι υπεύθυνος για την τιμωρία της αμαρτίας του. 16 Αυτός που θα βλαστημήσει το όνομα του Κυρίου, πρέπει οπωσδήποτε να θανατωθεί· ολόκληρη η κοινότητα θα τον λιθοβολήσει, είτε είναι ξένος είτε Ισραηλίτης. Αφού βλαστήμησε το όνομα του Κυρίου πρέπει να θανατωθεί.

17 »Όποιος σκοτώσει άνθρωπο, πρέπει οπωσδήποτε να θανατωθεί. 18 Όποιος σκοτώσει ζώο πρέπει να το αντικαταστήσει. Ζωή αντί ζωής. 19 Αν κάποιος προξενήσει σωματική βλάβη σ’ έναν άλλο, πρέπει να του κάνουν ό,τι έκανε κι αυτός στον άλλο. 20 Σπάσιμο αντί σπασίματος, οφθαλμόν αντί οφθαλμού, οδόντα αντί οδόντος. Πρέπει να του προξενήσουν την ίδια βλάβη που προξένησε κι αυτός στον άλλον. 21 Όποιος σκοτώσει ζώο, πρέπει να το αντικαταστήσει· κι όποιος σκοτώσει άνθρωπο, πρέπει να πληρώσει ο ίδιος με τη ζωή του. 22 Ο ίδιος νόμος θα ισχύει τόσο για τον Ισραηλίτη όσο και για τον ξένο· γιατί εγώ, ο Κύριος, είμαι ο Θεός σας».

23 Όταν τα είπε αυτά ο Μωυσής στους Ισραηλίτες, εκείνοι έβγαλαν έξω από το στρατόπεδο αυτόν που είχε βλαστημήσει και τον λιθοβόλησαν. Έτσι, έκαναν όπως διέταξε ο Κύριος το Μωυσή.

1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 2 Command the children of Israel, that they bring unto thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamps to burn continually.*24.2 to cause: Heb. to cause to ascend 3 Without the vail of the testimony, in the tabernacle of the congregation, shall Aaron order it from the evening unto the morning before the LORD continually: it shall be a statute for ever in your generations. 4 He shall order the lamps upon the pure candlestick before the LORD continually.

5 And thou shalt take fine flour, and bake twelve cakes thereof: two tenth deals shall be in one cake. 6 And thou shalt set them in two rows, six on a row, upon the pure table before the LORD. 7 And thou shalt put pure frankincense upon each row, that it may be on the bread for a memorial, even an offering made by fire unto the LORD. 8 Every sabbath he shall set it in order before the LORD continually, being taken from the children of Israel by an everlasting covenant. 9 And it shall be Aaron’s and his sons’; and they shall eat it in the holy place: for it is most holy unto him of the offerings of the LORD made by fire by a perpetual statute.

10 And the son of an Israelitish woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the children of Israel: and this son of the Israelitish woman and a man of Israel strove together in the camp; 11 And the Israelitish woman’s son blasphemed the name of the LORD, and cursed. And they brought him unto Moses: (and his mother’s name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan:) 12 And they put him in ward, that the mind of the LORD might be shewed them.*24.12 that…: Heb. to expound unto them according to the mouth of the LORD 13 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 14 Bring forth him that hath cursed without the camp; and let all that heard him lay their hands upon his head, and let all the congregation stone him. 15 And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, Whosoever curseth his God shall bear his sin. 16 And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the LORD, shall be put to death.

17 And he that killeth any man shall surely be put to death.*24.17 killeth…: Heb. smiteth the life of a man 18 And he that killeth a beast shall make it good; beast for beast.*24.18 beast for…: Heb. life for life 19 And if a man cause a blemish in his neighbour; as he hath done, so shall it be done to him; 20 Breach for breach, eye for eye, tooth for tooth: as he hath caused a blemish in a man, so shall it be done to him again. 21 And he that killeth a beast, he shall restore it: and he that killeth a man, he shall be put to death. 22 Ye shall have one manner of law, as well for the stranger, as for one of your own country: for I am the LORD your God.

23 And Moses spake to the children of Israel, that they should bring forth him that had cursed out of the camp, and stone him with stones. And the children of Israel did as the LORD commanded Moses.
