1 A palavra do Senhor foi-me dirigida nestes termos:2 filho do homem, profetiza contra os profetas israelitas que {pretendem} profetizar, dize àqueles que profetizam de sua própria cabeça: escutai a palavra do Senhor:3 eis o que diz o Senhor Javé: ai dos profetas insensatos que seguem sua própria inspiração sem terem tido {realmente} visão alguma.4 Assim como chacais nos esconderijos, tais são os teus profetas, ó Israel.5 Não subistes por sobre as brechas para refazer um muro à casa de Israel, a fim de poder estar seguro no combate no dia do Senhor.6 Vêem só visões disparatadas, só fazem predições enganosas, eles que dizem: oráculo do Senhor! quando o Senhor não os enviou; e, todavia, esperam a realização de sua palavra.7 Não é verdade que não tendes senão visões ineptas e não fazeis senão predições enganadoras, quando dizeis: oráculo do Senhor, quando eu não falei coisa alguma?8 E, por isso, eis o que diz o Senhor Javé: porque proferis oráculos enganadores e tendes visões mentirosas, eu vou castigar-vos - oráculo do Senhor Javé.9 Estenderei minha mão contra esses profetas de visões ineptas e de oráculos enganadores. Não farão mais parte do conselho do meu povo, não serão inscritos no número da casa de Israel e não regressarão à terra de Israel. E saberão assim que sou eu o Senhor Javé.10 Porquanto abusam do meu povo, dizendo: Tudo vai bem, quando tudo vai mal. Quando o meu povo constrói um muro, ei-los a cobrirem-no de gesso.11 Dize pois àqueles que põem esse gesso: este muro vai cair. Vai haver um aguaceiro, vai cair saraiva grossa, vai desencadear-se uma tempestade;12 e o muro vai rachar. Então, se vos dirá: onde está o reboco de gesso que amassastes?13 Pois bem! Eis o que diz o Senhor Javé: em minha indignação, desencadearei um furacão, em minha cólera, vou mandar uma tempestade, em meu furor de destruição, farei cair granizo.14 Abaterei assim o muro que emboçastes, pô-lo-ei abaixo, desnudá-lo-ei até as suas fundações. Ele desmoronará e perecereis no meio dos {escombros}. Sabereis assim que sou o Senhor.15 Quando houver saciado o meu furor contra o muro e contra aqueles que o tiverem rebocado de gesso, direi: nada de muro! Desapareceram aqueles que o rebocaram,16 esses profetas israelitas que profetizavam sobre Jerusalém e tinham para ela visões de bem-estar quando tudo ia mal! - oráculo do Senhor Javé.17 Tu, filho do homem, volta-te agora para as filhas do teu povo que profetizam de sua própria cabeça, e pronuncia contra elas18 o oráculo seguinte: eis o que diz o Senhor Javé: ai daquelas que cosem faixas para todos os punhos, que confeccionam véus para as cabeças de todos os tamanhos, com o fito de fazerem caça às almas. Como?! Capturais as almas do meu povo, enquanto vós conservais em vida vossas próprias almas!19 Vós me aviltais perante o meu povo por alguns punhados de cevada e uns pedaços de pão, fazendo perecer vidas que não deveriam morrer, e dando vida a quem não deveria viver. Assim, enganais o meu povo, que não quer senão ouvir fábulas.20 Eis por que diz o Senhor: vou contra as ligaduras de que vos servis para dar caça às almas: eu as arrancarei de vossos braços e darei vôo às almas que, como pássaros, apanhastes na armadilha.21 Rasgarei do mesmo modo os vossos véus e livrarei o meu povo de vossas mãos, a fim de que deixem de ser presa em vossas mãos. E sabereis assim que eu sou o Senhor.22 Porque vós abateis a coragem do justo com vossas mentiras, enquanto eu não o abato, porque encorajais o ímpio a não renunciar ao seu caminho perverso para não reencontrar a vida,23 já não tereis essas visões tolas e não mais proferireis oráculos. Libertarei o meu povo de vossas mãos, e sabereis que eu sou o Senhor.

1 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,2 Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel that prophesy, and say thou unto those that prophesy out of their own heart, Hear ye the word of the Lord:3 Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Woe unto the scandalous prophets, that follow their own spirit, without having seen any thing!4 Like foxes among the ruins have been thy prophets, O Israel!5 Ye did not go up into the breaches, nor did ye make a fence around the house of Israel to stand in the battle on the day of the Lord.6 They saw falsehood and lying divination, they who say, "The Lord saith," when the Lord had not sent them; and yet they made others hope for the fulfillment of the word.7 Had ye not seen a false vision, and had ye not said a lying divination? and ye say, "The Lord saith," when I have not spoken.8 Therefore thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Whereas ye have spoken falsehood, and have seen lies: therefore, behold, I am against you, saith the Lord Eternal.9 And my hand shall be against the prophets that see false–hood, and that divine lies; in the secret council of my people shall they not be, and in the register of the house of Israel shall they not be written, and into the land of Israel shall they not come: and ye shall know that I am the Lord Eternal.10 Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, "Peace," when there was no peace: and my people build a protecting wall, and lo, they plaster it with unadhesive mortar.11 Say unto those who plaster it with unadhesive mortar, that it shall fall: there cometh an overflowing rain–shower; and ye, O great hailstones, shall fall; and a storm–wind shall rend it.12 And, lo, the wall is fallen down; will it not now be said unto you, Where is the plastering wherewith ye have plastered?13 Therefore thus hath said the Lord Eternal, I will even rend it with storm–winds in my fury; and an overflowing rain–shower shall come in my anger, with great hailstones in my fury to destroy it.14 And I will pull down the wall that ye have plastered with unadhesive mortar, and I will cast it down to the ground, so that the foundation thereof shall be laid open; and it shall fall, and ye shall be destroyed in the midst of it: and ye shall know that I am the Lord.15 Thus will I let out all my wrath upon the wall, and upon those that have plastered it with unadhesive mortar; and I will say unto you, Gone is the wall, and gone are they that plastered it;16 Namely, the prophets of Israel who prophesy concerning Jerusalem, and who see for her a vision of peace, when there is no peace, saith the Lord Eternal.17 But, thou son of man, set thy face against the daughters of thy people, who prophesy out of their own heart: and prophesy against them,18 And say, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Woe to the women that sew bolsters together for the armpits of all, and make cushions for the head of every stature, to hunt souls! Will ye hunt the souls of my people, that ye may keep your own soul alive?19 And ye profane me among my people for handfuls of barley and for bits of bread, to slay the souls that should not die, and to keep alive the souls that should not live, by your lying to my people that listen to lies!20 Therefore thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Behold, I am against your bolsters, whereon ye hunt the souls that they may flutter in your net, and I will tear them away from your arms; and I will let the souls go free, even the souls that ye hunt that they may flutter in your net.21 And I will tear away your cushions, and deliver my people out of your hand, and they shall be no more in your hand to be hunted: and ye shall know that I am the Lord.22 Because ye grieve the heart of the righteous with falsehood, when I have not given him pain; and strengthen the hands of the wicked, so that he should not return from his wicked way, through which he might live.23 Therefore shall ye see no more falsehood, and tell no more divinations; and I will deliver my people out of your hand: and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
