1 A palavra do Senhor foi-me dirigida nestes termos:2 filho do homem, volta-te para Jerusalém e profere um oráculo contra o santuário, um oráculo contra a terra de Israel.3 Dize-lhe: eis o que diz o Senhor: vou castigar-te, vou tirar a minha espada da bainha para separar de ti o justo e o perverso.4 É porque quero exterminar do teu meio o justo e o malévolo que de sul a norte desembainhei a espada contra todo homem.5 E todo ser vivo saberá que sou eu o Senhor que desembainharei a espada; e não mais a guardarei.6 Por isso, tu, filho do homem, põe-te a lamentar, com o coração partido; lança, em presença deles, amargos gemidos.7 Se te perguntarem porque gemes, responderás: é por causa da novidade, que está iminente, e que fará amargurar todos os corações, cair todos os braços, divagar todos os espíritos, dobrar todos os joelhos. Ei-la que chega: ela está aí - oráculo do Senhor Javé!8 A palavra do Senhor foi-me dirigida nestes termos:9 filho do homem, pronuncia o seguinte oráculo: assim fala o Senhor: dize: A espada! A espada está afiada e polida.10 Afiada, para o massacre; polida, a ponto de desprender clarões: então haveremos de alegrar-nos? O cetro do meu filho sobrepuja todo madeiro.11 Deu-se-lhe polimento para empunhá-la na mão; está ela aguçada e limpa para ser entregue ao degolador.12 Grita, filho do homem, clama, porque foi tirada contra o meu povo, contra todos os príncipes de Israel, que foram entregues ao gládio com meu povo. Fere-te pois a coxa!13 É uma prova: que há com o cetro desprezado que não mais existe? Oráculo do Senhor Javé.14 E tu, filho do homem, profetiza, bate as mãos! Que a espada seja dobrada, triplicada! É a espada da carnificina, a espada do grande morticínio que os ameaça de todo lado!15 Para fazer fundir os corações, para multiplicar as vítimas, diante de todas as portas, assestei a espada para a carnificina; ela está prestes a desprender clarões, ela está afiada para a matança.16 Volta-te para trás, à direita e à esquerda, diante de ti:17 também eu vou bater palmas, vou fartar meu furor, sou eu, o Senhor, que o digo!18 A palavra do Senhor foi-me dirigida nestes termos:19 filho do homem, traça dois caminhos que partam ambos do mesmo lugar, para que possa passar a espada do rei de Babilônia.20 À entrada do caminho, que conduz à cidade, põe um sinal. Traçarás, para a passagem da espada, um caminho para Rabat dos amonitas, e outro para Judá e a fortaleza de Jerusalém,21 porque o rei de Babilônia se detém na encruzilhada do caminho, à frente dos dois caminhos, para consultar a sorte: ele agita as flechas, interroga os ídolos domésticos, examina o fígado das vítimas.22 Em sua mão direita, detém ele a sorte que designa Jerusalém, para aí colocar os carneiros, para aí dar ordens de carnificina e arrancar gritos de guerra, para conduzir os aríetes contra as portas, para suspender terraços e construir torres.23 Isso significa aos olhos {dos habitantes} de Jerusalém um presságio mentiroso. Prestaram juramento, mas o rei de Babilônia lhes recorda a lembrança de suas iniqüidades, mandando capturá-los.24 E por isso, que o que diz o Senhor Javé: uma vez que trazeis à memória os vossos delitos, manifestando as vossas faltas, revelando os vossos pecados em todos os vossos atos, já que vos recordais, sereis castigados.25 Quanto a ti, príncipe de Israel, vil e ímpio, cujo dia é chegado com o término da iniqüidade,26 eis o que diz o Senhor Javé: Deixa essa tiara; larga essa coroa; tudo vai mudar. Vai-se exaltar o que é baixo, e abaixar o que é elevado.27 Ruína, ruína e ruína! Eis o que dela farei; será aniquilada até que isso aconteça àquele a quem pertence o julgamento, e ao qual eu a entregarei.28 E tu, filho do homem, profetiza: Eis o que diz o Senhor Javé em relação aos amonitas e seus ultrajes. Dize: a espada está desembainhada para a matança, afiada para o massacre, a ponto de desprender clarões,29 enquanto te entregas a visões mentirosas e a oráculos enganadores, para pô-la na garganta dos cadáveres dos ímpios, cujo dia é chegado com o fim da iniqüidade.30 Põe-na em tua bainha. É no lugar onde foste criado, tua terra natal, que te irei julgar.31 Sobre ti desencadearei a minha cólera; soprarei sobre ti o fogo do meu furor; eu te entregarei nas mãos de homens brutais, artífices de destruição.32 Serás presa das chamas; teu sangue correrá no meio da terra; não se recordará mais de ti, porque sou eu o Senhor, que falei.

1 (21:6) And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,2 (21:7) Son of man, direct thy face toward Jerusalem, and preach toward the holy places, and prophesy against the land of Israel,3 (21:8) And say to the land of Israel, Thus hath said the Lord, Behold, I will be against thee, and will draw forth my sword out of its sheath; and I will cut off from thee the righteous and the wicked.4 (21:9) But because I shall have cut off from thee the righteous and the wicked: therefore shall my sword go forth out of its sheath against all flesh from the south to the north;5 (21:10) That all flesh may know that I the Lord have drawn forth my sword out of its sheath; it shall not return any more.6 (21:11) But thou, son of man, do thou sigh: as though with broken loins, and with bitterness of grief shalt thou sigh before their eyes.7 (21:12) And it shall be, when they say unto thee, Wherefore sighest thou? that thou shalt say, For the report, because it cometh, when every heart shall melt, and all hands shall be made feeble, and every spirit shall become faint, and all knees shall be changed into water: behold, it cometh, and shall be brought to pass, saith the Lord Eternal.8 (21:13) And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,9 (21:14) Son of man, prophesy, and say, Thus hath said the Lord, Say, The sword, the sword is sharpened, and also polished;10 (21:15) In order to make a thorough slaughter is it sharpened; in order that it may glitter is it polished: how can we now rejoice, when the rod which reacheth my son excelleth in hardness every tree?11 (21:16) And he hath given it to be polished, to make it fit to grasp it in the hand: it is the sword which is sharpened, and it is polished, to place it into the hand of the slayer.12 (21:17) Cry aloud and wail, O son of man; for it cometh against my people, it cometh against all the princes of Israel; brought together for the sword are they with my people: therefore strike thy hand upon thy thigh.13 (21:18) For a purification taketh place: and what if the irresistible rod will also come? my son would not be able to exist, saith the Lord Eternal.14 (21:19) But thou, son of man, prophesy, and strike thy hands together, and let "The sword" be repeated the third time, the sword of the slain: it is the sword of the great that are slain, which lieth in wait for them everywhere.15 (21:20) In order to make timid the heart, and to multiply the stumbling–blocks, do I bring the howling of the sword against all their gates: ah! it is made bright, it is made thin–edged for the slaughter.16 (21:21) Gather up thy strength, go to the right hand, direct thyself, go to the left, whithersoever thy edge is turned.17 (21:22) And I also,––I will strike my hands together, and I will cause my fury to be assuaged: I the Lord have spoken it.18 (21:23) And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,19 (21:24) But thou, O son of man, appoint thee two ways, that the sword of the king of Babylon may come; out of one land shall both of them come forth: and select a place; at the head of the way to a city do thou select it.20 (21:25) A way shalt thou appoint, that the sword may come against Rabbah of the children of ‘Ammon, and the other against Judah dwelling in Jerusalem the fortified.21 (21:26) For the king of Babylon hath halted at the parting of the way, at the commencement of the two ways, to use divination: he shaketh the arrows, he consulteth with images, he looketh at the liver.22 (21:27) At his right hand was the divination for Jerusalem, to erect battering–rams, to open the mouth with the cry for murder, to lift up the voice with shouting, to place battering–rams against the gates, to cast up a mound, and to build works of attack.23 (21:28) And it will appear unto them as a false divination in their eyes, to those that had sworn oaths; but he will bring to remembrance their iniquity, that they may be caught.24 (21:29) Therefore thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Because ye have brought your iniquity to remembrance, as your transgressions are discovered, so that your sins do appear in all your doings: because ye are thus brought to remembrance, ye shall be caught by his hand.25 (21:30) And thou, death–deserving wicked one, prince of Israel, whose day is come, at the time of the iniquity of the end,––26 (21:31) Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Remove the mitre, and take off the crown: this shall not be always so; exalt him that is low, and make him low that is high.27 (21:32) Overthrown, overthrown, overthrown will I render it: also this shall not belong to any one, until he come whose right it is, and I will give it him.28 (21:33) And thou, son of man, prophesy, and say, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal concerning the children of ‘Ammon, and concerning their reproach: even say thou, The sword, the sword is drawn; for the slaughter is it polished, to destroy, that it may continue to glitter;29 (21:34) While they foresee unto thee falsehood, while they divine unto thee lies, to lay thee by the necks of the slain wicked, whose day is come, at the time of the iniquity of the end.30 (21:35) Put back the sword into its sheath! in the place where thou wast created, in the land of thy origin, will I judge thee.31 (21:36) And I will pour out over thee my indignation, with the fire of my wrath will I blow against thee, and I will give thee up into the hand of brutish men, skilful in destroying.32 (21:37) To the fire shalt thou be given to be devoured; thy blood shall be in the midst of the land: thou shalt not be remembered any more; for I the Lord have spoken it.
