1 A palavra do Senhor foi-me dirigida nestes termos:2 filho do homem, volta-te para o lado da montanha de Seir, e profetiza contra ela;3 Dize-lhe: eis o que diz o Senhor Javé: é contra ti que venho, monte de Seir; eu vou levantar a mão contra ti. Farei de ti um deserto e uma solidão;4 reduzirei as tuas cidades a ruínas, a fim de que saibas que sou eu o Senhor.5 Já que tens nutrido ódio eterno pelos israelitas, e os entregaste ao fio da espada no dia de sua aflição, e ao termo da sua iniqüidade,6 pois bem: por minha vida - oráculo do Senhor Javé -, eu te entregarei ao sangue, e o sangue há de perseguir-te; porquanto não te horrorizes em derramar sangue, o sangue há de perseguir-te.7 Farei da montanha de Seir um deserto e uma solidão, e suprimirei da terra todos os transeuntes.8 Cobrirei tuas montanhas de cadáveres: sobre teus outeiros, teus vales e tuas torrentes tombarão aqueles a quem corta o gládio.9 Reduzir-te-ei a solidões eternas; tuas cidades serão despovoadas. Assim saberás tu que eu é que sou o Senhor.10 Já que disseste: as duas nações, os dois países serão meus, e tomarei posse deles, ainda que o Senhor aí resida,11 pois bem: por minha vida - oráculo do Senhor Javé -, eu te tratarei com a mesma furiosa cólera com que os trataste, e far-me-ei conhecer no modo por que hei de exercer o meu julgamento contra ti.12 Saberás que eu, o Senhor, ouvi todas as blasfêmias que proferiste contra as montanhas de Israel, quando dizias: ei-las devastadas! Elas nos são dadas como pasto.13 Haveis-me afrontado com uma multidão de palavras insolentes contra mim. Eu as ouvi.14 Eis o que diz o Senhor Javé:15 enquanto toda a terra estiver em alegria, farei de ti uma solidão. Porque te tens alegrado com a devastação da herança da casa de Israel, eu te tratarei do mesmo modo: serás devastada, montanha de Seir, assim como toda a Iduméia. Assim reconhecerás que sou eu o Senhor.

1 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,2 Son of man, set thy face against the mountain of Se’ir, and prophecy against it,3 And say unto it, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Behold, I will be against thee, O mountain of Se’ir, and I will stretch out my hand over thee, and I will render thee desolate and wasted.4 Thy cities will I lay in ruins, and thou thyself shalt be desolate, and thou shalt know that I am the Lord.5 Because thou hast had an undying hatred, and didst surrender the children of Israel to the power of the sword, at the time of their calamity, at the time of the iniquity of the end:6 Therefore, as I live, saith the Lord Eternal, I will surely let thy blood flow, and blood shall pursue thee; since thou didst not hate blood–shedding, so shall blood pursue thee.7 Thus will I change the mountain of Se’ir into a desolate land and a waste, and I will cut off from it him that travelleth forward and backward.8 And I will fill his mountains with his slain: as regardeth thy hills, and thy valleys, and all thy ravines, in them shall fall those that are slain by the sword.9 Into perpetual desolations will I change thee, and thy cities shall not be restored: and ye shall know that I am the Lord.10 Because thou hast said, These two nations and these two countries shall indeed be mine, and we will take possession thereof; whereas the Lord was there:11 Therefore, as I live, saith the Lord God, I will even do according to thy anger, and according to thy envy which thou didst use out of thy hatred against them; and I will make myself known among them, when I judge thee.12 And thou shalt know that I am the Lord: I have heard all thy blasphemies which thou hast spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, They are laid desolate, they are given unto us to consume them.13 And ye boasted greatly against me with your mouth, and have multiplied against me your words: I have indeed heard them.14 Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, When the whole earth rejoiceth, I will make thee desolate.15 As thou didst rejoice over the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was made desolate: so will I do unto thee; desolate shalt thou be, O mountain of Se’ir, and all Idumea––altogether; and they shall know that I am the Lord.
