Atos 13

1 Now in the assembly that was at Antioch there were some prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen the foster brother of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. 2 As they served the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, "Separate Barnabas and Saul for me, for the work to which I have called them."

3 Then, when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away. 4 So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia. From there they sailed to Cyprus. 5 When they were at Salamis, they proclaimed God’s word in the Jewish synagogues. They also had John as their attendant. 6 When they had gone through the island to Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew whose name was Bar Jesus, 7 who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of understanding. This man summoned Barnabas and Saul, and sought to hear the word of God. 8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith. 9 But Saul, who is also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, fastened his eyes on him 10 and said, "You son of the devil, full of all deceit and all cunning, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord? 11 Now, behold, the hand of the Lord is on you, and you will be blind, not seeing the sun for a season!"

Immediately a mist and darkness fell on him. He went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand. 12 Then the proconsul, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.

13 Now Paul and his company set sail from Paphos and came to Perga in Pamphylia. John departed from them and returned to Jerusalem. 14 But they, passing on from Perga, came to Antioch of Pisidia. They went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and sat down. 15 After the reading of the law and the prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying, "Brothers, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, speak."

16 Paul stood up, and gesturing with his hand said, "Men of Israel, and you who fear God, listen. 17 The God of this people*13:17 TR, NU add "Israel" chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they stayed as aliens in the land of Egypt, and with an uplifted arm, he led them out of it. 18 For a period of about forty years he put up with them in the wilderness. 19 When he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land for an inheritance for about four hundred fifty years. 20 After these things, he gave them judges until Samuel the prophet. 21 Afterward they asked for a king, and God gave to them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. 22 When he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king, to whom he also testified, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after my heart, who will do all my will.’ 23 From this man’s offspring, God has brought salvation*13:23 TR, NU read "a Savior, Jesus" instead of "salvation" to Israel according to his promise, 24 before his coming, when John had first preached the baptism of repentance to Israel.*13:24 TR, NU read "to all the people of Israel" instead of "to Israel" 25 As John was fulfilling his course, he said, ‘What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. But behold, one comes after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’

26 "Brothers, children of the stock of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, the word of this salvation is sent out to you. 27 For those who dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they didn’t know him, nor the voices of the prophets which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him. 28 Though they found no cause for death, they still asked Pilate to have him killed. 29 When they had fulfilled all things that were written about him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb. 30 But God raised him from the dead, 31 and he was seen for many days by those who came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses to the people. 32 We bring you good news of the promise made to the fathers, 33 that God has fulfilled this to us, their children, in that he raised up Jesus. As it is also written in the second psalm,

‘You are my Son.

Today I have become your father.’✝13:33 Psalms 2:7

34 "Concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he has spoken thus: ‘I will give you the holy and sure blessings of David.’✝13:34 Isaiah 55:3 35 Therefore he says also in another psalm, ‘You will not allow your Holy One to see decay.’✝13:35 Psalms 16:10 36 For David, after he had in his own generation served the counsel of God, fell asleep, was laid with his fathers, and saw decay. 37 But he whom God raised up saw no decay. 38 Be it known to you therefore, brothers,*13:38 The word for "brothers" here and where the context allows may also be correctly translated "brothers and sisters" or "siblings." that through this man is proclaimed to you remission of sins; 39 and by him everyone who believes is justified from all things, from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses. 40 Beware therefore, lest that come on you which is spoken in the prophets:

41 ‘Behold, you scoffers!

Wonder and perish,

for I work a work in your days,

a work which you will in no way believe, if one declares it to you.’"✝13:41 Habakkuk 1:5

42 So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath. 43 Now when the synagogue broke up, many of the Jews and of the devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas; who, speaking to them, urged them to continue in the grace of God.

44 The next Sabbath, almost the whole city was gathered together to hear the word of God. 45 But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with jealousy, and contradicted the things which were spoken by Paul, and blasphemed.

46 Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, and said, "It was necessary that God’s word should be spoken to you first. Since indeed you thrust it from yourselves, and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles. 47 For so has the Lord commanded us, saying,

‘I have set you as a light for the Gentiles,

that you should bring salvation to the uttermost parts of the earth.’"✝13:47 Isaiah 49:6

48 As the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of God. As many as were appointed to eternal life believed. 49 The Lord’s word was spread abroad throughout all the region. 50 But the Jews stirred up the devout and prominent women and the chief men of the city, and stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and threw them out of their borders. 51 But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came to Iconium. 52 The disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.

4 Utsända av den helige Ande gick de ner till Seleucia*13:4SeleuciaStorstaden Antiokias hamn vid Medelhavskusten. och seglade därifrån till Cypern. 5 De kom till Salamis*13:5SalamisStor handelsstad på Cyperns östkust, tidigare dess huvudort. och predikade Guds ord i judarnas synagogor. De hade också med sig Johannes*13:5JohannesDvs Johannes Markus (se 12:25), Markusevangeliets författare. som medhjälpare.

6 Sedan reste de över hela ön ända till Pafos*13:6PafosCyperns dåtida huvudort, berömd för dyrkan av kärleksgudinnan Afrodite.. Där träffade de på en jude som utövade magi, en falsk profet vid namn Barjesus*13:6BarjesusArameiska för "son till Jesus", som var ett vanligt namn bland antikens judar.. 7 Han höll till hos ståthållaren Sergius Paulus, som var en förståndig man. Denne kallade till sig Barnabas och Saulus och ville höra Guds ord. 8 Men Elymas*13:8ElymasMannens förnamn, troligen en grekisering av arab. alim, magiker., trollkarlen – det är vad hans namn betyder – gick emot dem och försökte hindra ståthållaren från att komma till tro.

9 Saulus, som även kallades Paulus*13:9Saulus, som även kallades Paulus Liksom många andra judar hade Paulus både ett hebreiskt namn (Saul) och ett snarlikt romerskt (Paulus, som betyder "liten")., uppfylldes då av den helige Ande och spände ögonen i honom 10 *Joh 8:44, 1 Joh 3:8. och sade: "Du djävulens son, full av allt svek och bedrägeri och fiende till allt som är rätt! Ska du aldrig sluta att förvränga Herrens raka vägar? 11 Nu kommer Herrens hand över dig, och du ska bli blind en tid och inte kunna se solen." I samma ögonblick föll töcken och mörker över honom, och han irrade omkring och sökte efter någon som kunde ta hans hand och leda honom. 12 *Luk 4:32. När ståthållaren såg det som hände kom han till tro, överväldigad av Herrens lära.

I Antiokia i Pisidien

13 *Apg 15:37f. Paulus och hans följeslagare seglade sedan ut från Pafos och kom till Perge*13:13PergeProvinsen Pamfyliens huvudort, belägen nära dagens Antalya på Turkiets sydkust. i Pamfylien. Där lämnade Johannes dem och återvände till Jerusalem. 14 Själva fortsatte de sin resa från Perge och kom till Antiokia i Pisidien*13:14Antiokia i Pisidieni centrala nuvarande Turkiet är inte samma stad som stora Antiokia (13:1).. På sabbaten gick de till synagogan och satte sig. 15 *Luk 4:16f, Apg 15:21. Efter läsningen av lagen och profeterna lät synagogföreståndarna hälsa dem: "Bröder, om någon av er har ett ord av tröst och förmaning till folket, så säg det."

16 Då reste sig Paulus, gav tecken med handen och sade: "Israeliter och ni som fruktar Gud, lyssna! 17 *2 Mos 6:6, 12:37f. Detta folks Gud, Israels Gud, utvalde våra fäder. Han gjorde sitt folk stort när de bodde som främlingar i Egypten. Med upplyft arm förde han dem ut därifrån,*13:17gjorde sitt folk stortOrdagrant: "lyfte upp sitt folk" (se vers 18).18 *5 Mos 1:31. och under fyrtio år bar han dem*13:18bar han demAndra handskrifter: "hade han tålamod med sina barn". i öknen. 19 *5 Mos 7:1. Han utrotade sju folk i Kanaans land och gav deras land i arv åt sitt folk. 20 Allt detta tog omkring fyrahundrafemtio år.

Därefter gav han dem domare fram till profeten Samuels tid. 21 *1 Sam 8:5, 9:15f, 10:1f. Sedan bad de att få en kung, och Gud gav dem Saul, Kishs son, en man av Benjamins stam, för en tid av fyrtio år. 22 *1 Sam 13:14, 16:12f, Ps 89:21. Men Gud avsatte honom och gjorde David till kung över dem, och han gav honom sitt vittnesbörd: Jag har funnit David, Ishais son, en man efter mitt hjärta. Han ska utföra min vilja i allt.*13:22 Ps 89:21, 1 Sam 13:14.

23 *2 Sam 7:12f, Jes 11:1, Jer 23:5. Från hans efterkommande*13:23efterkommandeOrdagrant: "säd". Jfr profetiorna i 2 Sam 7:12, Ps 89:5, 30. har Gud efter sitt löfte fört fram en Frälsare för Israel: Jesus. 24 Innan Jesus trädde fram hade Johannes förkunnat omvändelsens dop för hela Israels folk. 25 *Matt 3:1f, Mark 1:4, Luk 3:3, Luk 3:15f, Joh 1:19f. Och när Johannes nådde slutet av sin bana, sade han: Det ni tror jag är, det är jag inte. Men efter mig kommer en vars sandaler jag inte ens är värdig att knyta upp.

26 Bröder, söner av Abrahams släkt och ni andra som fruktar Gud! Till oss har budskapet om denna frälsning blivit sänt. 27 *Joh 16:3, Apg 3:17, 1 Kor 2:8. Jerusalems invånare och deras ledare förstod nämligen inte vem han var. När de dömde honom, uppfyllde de profeternas ord som läses varje sabbat. 28 *Matt 27:20f, Mark 15:11f, Luk 23:18f, Joh 19:6f. Fast de inte fann honom skyldig till något som förtjänade döden, krävde de att Pilatus skulle avrätta honom. 29 *5 Mos 21:22f, Matt 27:59f, Mark 15:46, Luk 23:53, Joh 19:38. Och när de hade fullbordat allt som var skrivet om honom, tog de ner honom från träet*13:29träetDvs korsets trä. och lade honom i en grav. 30 *Apg 2:24f. Men Gud uppväckte honom från de döda, 31 *Matt 28:9, Mark 16:9f, Luk 24:13f, Joh 21:1f, Apg 1:3, 1 Kor 15:5f. och han visade sig under många dagar för dem som hade följt honom från Galileen upp till Jerusalem och som nu är hans vittnen inför folket.

32 *1 Mos 3:15, 22:18, Jes 7:14, 9:6, Jer 33:14f. Och nu förkunnar vi det glada budskapet för er: löftet som fäderna fick 33 *Hebr 1:5, 5:5. har Gud uppfyllt åt oss, deras barn, genom att låta Jesus uppstå. Det står ju skrivet i andra psalmen: Du är min Son, jag har fött dig i dag.*13:33 Ps 2:7.34 Och att han har uppväckt honom från de döda för att aldrig mer återvända till förgängelsen, det har han sagt med dessa ord: Jag ska ge er de heliga och fasta nådelöften som David fick.*13:34 Jes 55:3.35 Därför säger han också på ett annat ställe: Du ska inte låta din Helige se förgängelsen.*13:35 Ps 16:10.36 *1 Kung 2:10, Apg 2:29. När David på sin tid hade tjänat Guds vilja, insomnade han och blev lagd till vila hos sina fäder och såg förgängelsen. 37 Men den som Gud uppväckte har inte sett förgängelsen.

38 Därför ska ni veta, bröder, att det är genom honom som syndernas förlåtelse förkunnas för er. 39 *Rom 3:26f, 8:3, 10:4, Gal 2:16. Var och en som tror förklaras rättfärdig i honom och fri från allt som ni inte kunde frias från genom Mose lag. 40 Se därför till att det som är sagt hos profeterna inte drabbar er:

41 Se, ni föraktare, häpna och gå under:*13:41Hab 1:5.

jag gör en gärning i era dagar,

en gärning ni aldrig kommer att tro

när den berättas för er."

42 När de gick ut bad folket att de skulle tala mer om detta nästa sabbat. 43 *Apg 11:23. Och när församlingen skildes åt följde många judar och gudfruktiga proselyter med Paulus och Barnabas, som talade till dem och uppmanade dem att hålla sig till Guds nåd.

44 Följande sabbat var nästan hela staden samlad för att höra Herrens ord. 45 *Apg 5:17. Men när judarna fick se allt folket fylldes de av avund, och de hånade Paulus och sade emot det som han förkunnade.

46 *Matt 10:6, 21:43, Apg 3:26, 18:6, 28:8, Rom 1:16. Då svarade Paulus och Barnabas frimodigt: "Guds ord måste först förkunnas för er. Men när ni avvisar det och inte anser er värdiga det eviga livet, då vänder vi oss till hedningarna. 47 *Jes 42:6, Luk 2:30f. För så har Herren befallt oss:*13:47Jes 49:6.

Jag har satt dig till ett ljus

för hednafolken,

för att du ska bli till frälsning

ända till jordens yttersta gräns."

48 *Rom 8:28f. När hedningarna hörde detta blev de glada och prisade Herrens ord och kom till tro, alla som var bestämda till evigt liv. 49 Och Herrens ord spreds över hela området.

50 Men judarna hetsade upp de förnäma kvinnorna som vördade Gud och de ledande männen i staden. De satte i gång en förföljelse mot Paulus och Barnabas och drev bort dem från sitt område. 51 *Luk 9:5. Då skakade de av dammet från sina fötter mot dem och fortsatte till Ikonium.*13:51skakade av dammet från sina fötter mot demEtt avståndstagande (se Matt 10:14).52 Och lärjungarna uppfylldes av glädje och den helige Ande.
