Atos 14

1 In Iconium, they entered together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spoke that a great multitude both of Jews and of Greeks believed. 2 But the disbelieving*14:2 or, disobedient Jews stirred up and embittered the souls of the Gentiles against the brothers. 3 Therefore they stayed there a long time, speaking boldly in the Lord, who testified to the word of his grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands. 4 But the multitude of the city was divided. Part sided with the Jews and part with the apostles. 5 When some of both the Gentiles and the Jews, with their rulers, made a violent attempt to mistreat and stone them, 6 they became aware of it and fled to the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra, Derbe, and the surrounding region. 7 There they preached the Good News.

8 At Lystra a certain man sat, impotent in his feet, a cripple from his mother’s womb, who never had walked. 9 He was listening to Paul speaking, who, fastening eyes on him and seeing that he had faith to be made whole, 10 said with a loud voice, "Stand upright on your feet!" He leaped up and walked. 11 When the multitude saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voice, saying in the language of Lycaonia, "The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men!" 12 They called Barnabas "Jupiter", and Paul "Mercury", because he was the chief speaker. 13 The priest of Jupiter, whose temple was in front of their city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates, and would have made a sacrifice along with the multitudes.

14 But when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of it, they tore their clothes and sprang into the multitude, crying out, 15 "Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men of the same nature as you, and bring you good news, that you should turn from these vain things to the living God, who made the sky, the earth, the sea, and all that is in them; 16 who in the generations gone by allowed all the nations to walk in their own ways. 17 Yet he didn’t leave himself without witness, in that he did good and gave you*14:17 TR reads "us" instead of "you" rains from the sky and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness."

18 Even saying these things, they hardly stopped the multitudes from making a sacrifice to them. 19 But some Jews from Antioch and Iconium came there, and having persuaded the multitudes, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead.

20 But as the disciples stood around him, he rose up, and entered into the city. On the next day he went out with Barnabas to Derbe.

21 When they had preached the Good News to that city and had made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch, 22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that through many afflictions we must enter into God’s Kingdom. 23 When they had appointed elders for them in every assembly, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord on whom they had believed.

24 They passed through Pisidia and came to Pamphylia. 25 When they had spoken the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia. 26 From there they sailed to Antioch, from where they had been committed to the grace of God for the work which they had fulfilled. 27 When they had arrived and had gathered the assembly together, they reported all the things that God had done with them, and that he had opened a door of faith to the nations. 28 They stayed there with the disciples for a long time.

I Ikonium

1 *Apg 11:21. I Ikonium hände samma sak. De gick till judarnas synagoga och predikade så att många, både judar och greker, kom till tro. 2 Men de judar som vägrade tro hetsade upp hedningarna och förgiftade deras sinnen gentemot bröderna. 3 *Mark 16:20, Hebr 2:4. Paulus och Barnabas stannade där en längre tid och talade frimodigt i förtröstan på Herren, som bekräftade sitt nåderika ord genom att låta tecken och under ske genom deras händer.

4 Men folket i staden delade sig så att vissa höll med judarna och andra med apostlarna. 5 *2 Tim 3:11. Och när både hedningarna och judarna med sina ledare gjorde upp en plan att misshandla och stena dem, 6 *Matt 10:23. fick apostlarna reda på det och flydde till städerna Lystra och Derbe i Lykaonien och trakten däromkring. 7 Där fortsatte de att förkunna evangeliet.

I Lystra

8 *Apg 3:2f. I Lystra satt en man som var handikappad och förlamad i benen från födseln och som aldrig kunnat gå. 9 *Matt 9:28. Han lyssnade när Paulus predikade. Paulus fäste sin blick på honom, och när han såg att mannen hade tro så att han kunde bli botad*14:9botadAnnan översättning: "frälst".10 sade han med hög röst: "Res dig upp och stå på dina ben!" Då hoppade han upp och började gå omkring.

11 *Apg 28:6. När folket såg vad Paulus hade gjort, ropade de på lykaoniska: "Gudarna har kommit ner till oss i mänsklig gestalt!" 12 De kallade Barnabas för Zeus och Paulus för Hermes, eftersom det var han som förde ordet.*14:12Zeus … HermesEnligt en legend som återges av Ovidius hade Zeus och Hermes, i grekisk mytologi den högste guden respektive gudarnas härold, en gång besökt trakten i mänsklig gestalt. De två gudarna skulle då ha blivit så upprörda över det dåliga mottagandet att de utplånade den dåtida staden, vilket kan förklara folkets vördnad för Paulus och Barnabas.13 *Dan 2:46. Prästen i Zeustemplet utanför staden förde fram tjurar och kransar till portarna och ville offra tillsammans med folket.

14 Men när apostlarna Barnabas och Paulus hörde det, rev de sönder sina kläder*14:14rev de sönder sina kläderJudiskt uttryck för sorg och förfäran (jfr t ex 1 Mos 37:29, 34). och rusade in bland folket och ropade: 15 *Ps 146:6, Apg 4:24, 10:26. "Människor, vad är det ni gör? Vi är också människor som ni! Vi kommer till er med evangeliet att ni ska omvända er från dessa tomma avgudar till den levande Guden, han somgjorthimmel, jord och hav och allt som finns i dem.*14:15 Ps 146:6.16 *Apg 17:30. I forna generationer lät han alla hednafolk gå sina egna vägar. 17 *Ps 104:27f, Jer 5:24, Apg 17:26f. Ändå har han lämnat många vittnesbörd om sig själv. Han gör gott, han ger er regn från himlen och skördetider och mättar er med mat och glädje i era hjärtan." 18 Med dessa ord lyckades de med nöd och näppe lugna folket så att de inte offrade åt dem.

19 *2 Kor 11:25, 2 Tim 3:11. Från Antiokia och Ikonium kom det nu några judar. De lyckades få med sig folket, och man stenade Paulus och släpade ut honom ur staden i tron att han var död. 20 Men när lärjungarna samlades omkring honom, reste han sig och gick in i staden.

I Derbe och till Antiokia i Syrien

Nästa dag gick Paulus och Barnabas vidare till Derbe. 21 De förkunnade evangeliet i staden och vann många lärjungar. Sedan återvände de till Lystra, Ikonium och Antiokia 22 *Matt 10:38, Apg 11:23, Rom 8:17, 1 Tess 3:3, 2 Tim 3:12. och styrkte lärjungarnas själar och uppmanade dem att stå fasta i tron. De sade: "Vi måste gå igenom många lidanden för att komma in i Guds rike." 23 I varje församling utsåg de äldste åt dem, och efter bön och fasta överlämnade de dem åt Herren som de hade kommit till tro på.

24 Sedan tog apostlarna vägen genom Pisidien och kom till Pamfylien. 25 De predikade ordet i Perge och gick ner till Attalia. 26 *Apg 13:2f. Därifrån seglade de tillbaka mot Antiokia, där de hade blivit överlämnade åt Guds nåd för det uppdrag som de nu hade fullgjort. 27 *Apg 15:4, 1 Kor 16:9. När de hade kommit fram, samlade de församlingen och berättade om allt som Gud hade gjort genom dem och hur han hade öppnat trons dörr för hedningarna. 28 Och de stannade en längre tid där hos lärjungarna.
