Atos 4

1 As they spoke to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came to them, 2 being upset because they taught the people and proclaimed in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. 3 They laid hands on them, and put them in custody until the next day, for it was now evening. 4 But many of those who heard the word believed, and the number of the men came to be about five thousand.

5 In the morning, their rulers, elders, and scribes were gathered together in Jerusalem. 6 Annas the high priest was there, with Caiaphas, John, Alexander, and as many as were relatives of the high priest. 7 When they had stood Peter and John in the middle of them, they inquired, "By what power, or in what name, have you done this?"

8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "You rulers of the people and elders of Israel, 9 if we are examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed, 10 may it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, this man stands here before you whole in him. 11 He is ‘the stone which was regarded as worthless by you, the builders, which has become the head of the corner.’✝4:11 Psalms 118:22 12 There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"

13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and had perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled. They recognized that they had been with Jesus. 14 Seeing the man who was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it. 15 But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves, 16 saying, "What shall we do to these men? Because indeed a notable miracle has been done through them, as can be plainly seen by all who dwell in Jerusalem, and we can’t deny it. 17 But so that this spreads no further among the people, let’s threaten them, that from now on they don’t speak to anyone in this name." 18 They called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.

19 But Peter and John answered them, "Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, judge for yourselves, 20 for we can’t help telling the things which we saw and heard."

21 When they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, because of the people; for everyone glorified God for that which was done. 22 For the man on whom this miracle of healing was performed was more than forty years old.

23 Being let go, they came to their own company and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them. 24 When they heard it, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord and said, "O Lord, you are God, who made the sky, the earth, the sea, and all that is in them; 25 who by the mouth of your servant David, said,

‘Why do the nations rage,

and the peoples plot a vain thing?

26 The kings of the earth take a stand,

and the rulers plot together,

against the Lord, and against his Christ.’*4:26 Christ (Greek) and Messiah (Hebrew) both mean Anointed One.✝4:26 Psalms 2:1-2

27 "For truly,*4:27 nu adds "in this city," both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, 28 to do whatever your hand and your counsel foreordained to happen. 29 Now, Lord, look at their threats, and grant to your servants to speak your word with all boldness, 30 while you stretch out your hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of your holy Servant Jesus."

31 When they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were gathered together. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.

32 The multitude of those who believed were of one heart and soul. Not one of them claimed that anything of the things which he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common. 33 With great power, the apostles gave their testimony of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. Great grace was on them all. 34 For neither was there among them any who lacked, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold, 35 and laid them at the apostles’ feet; and distribution was made to each, according as anyone had need.

36 Joses, who by the apostles was also called Barnabas (which is, being interpreted, Son of Encouragement), a Levite, a man of Cyprus by race, 37 having a field, sold it and brought the money and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

Inför Stora rådet

1 *Luk 22:4. De lät föra fram apostlarna och började förhöra dem: "Genom vilken kraft eller i vilket namn har ni gjort detta?"

8 *Luk 12:11f. Då uppfylldes Petrus av den helige Ande och svarade dem: "Rådsherrar och äldste för vårt folk! 9 Om vi står till svars i dag för en välgärning mot en sjuk man och ska förklara hur han blev botad, 10 *Apg 3:16, 5:30. så ska ni alla och hela Israels folk veta att han står frisk framför er i kraft av Jesu Kristi nasaréns namn. Ni korsfäste honom, men Gud har uppväckt honom från de döda. 11 *Jes 28:16, Matt 21:42, 1 Petr 2:6. Jesus är stenen som ni byggnadsarbetare förkastade men som har blivit en hörnsten.*4:11 Ps 118:22.12 *Matt 1:21, Joh 14:6, Apg 10:43, 1 Tim 2:5. Hos ingen annan finns frälsningen, och under himlen finns inget annat namn som människor fått genom vilket vi blir frälsta."

13 När de såg hur frimodiga Petrus och Johannes var och märkte att de var olärda män ur folket, blev de förvånade. Men så kände de igen dem och kom ihåg att de hade varit med Jesus. 14 Och när de såg mannen som blivit botad stå där tillsammans med dem, blev de svarslösa. 15 De befallde dem att lämna rådssalen och överlade sedan med varandra. 16 De sade: "Vad ska vi göra med dessa människor? Att det har hänt ett märkligt tecken genom dem är uppenbart för alla som bor i Jerusalem, och det kan vi inte förneka. 17 *Joh 11:47. Men för att det inte ska sprida sig ännu mer bland folket bör vi varna dem så att de aldrig mer talar till någon människa i det namnet."

18 *Apg 5:28f. De kallade in dem och förbjöd dem att alls tala eller undervisa i Jesu namn. 19 Men Petrus och Johannes svarade dem: "Bedöm själva om det är rätt inför Gud att lyda er och inte Gud. 20 Vi för vår del kan inte hålla tyst med vad vi har sett och hört." 21 Då hotade de dem igen men lät dem sedan gå. För folkets skull kunde de inte komma på något bra sätt att straffa dem, eftersom alla prisade Gud för det som hade hänt. 22 Mannen som blev botad genom tecknet var ju över fyrtio år.

Bön i förföljelsetid

23 När de blivit frisläppta gick de till sina egna och berättade allt vad översteprästerna och de äldste hade sagt till dem. 24 *2 Mos 20:11, Ps 146:6, Apg 14:15. När de hörde det, ropade de tillsammans till Gud och bad: "Herre, du som gjort himmel och jord och hav och allt som finns i dem,*4:24 Ps 146:6.25 du har genom den helige Ande talat genom vår fader David, din tjänare:

Varför rasar hednafolken,

varför tänker folken tomma tankar?*4:25f Ps 2:1f.

26 Jordens kungar reser sig

och furstarna gaddar ihop sig

mot Herren och hans Smorde*4:26SmordeHebr. "Messias" och grek. "Kristus", Guds utlovade frälsare, kung och profet..

27 *Luk 23:11f. Ja, de gaddade verkligen ihop sig i denna stad mot din helige tjänare Jesus som du har smort. Herodes och Pontius Pilatus gick samman med hedningarna och Israels stammar 28 *Apg 2:23. för att utföra det som du med din hand och ditt beslut hade förutbestämt.

29 *Ef 6:19. Och nu, Herre, se hur de hotar oss! Hjälp dina tjänare att frimodigt förkunna ditt ord, 30 genom att du räcker ut din hand och låter helande, tecken och under ske genom din helige tjänare Jesu namn."

31 När de hade bett skakades platsen där de var samlade, och de uppfylldes alla av den helige Ande och förkunnade Guds ord med frimodighet.

Ett hjärta och en själ

32 *Jer 32:39, Apg 2:44f. Hela skaran av dem som kommit till tro var ett hjärta och en själ, och ingen kallade något av det han ägde för sitt utan de hade allt gemensamt. 33 Med stor kraft bar apostlarna fram vittnesbördet om Herren Jesu uppståndelse, och stor nåd var över dem alla.

34 *5 Mos 15:4. Ingen av dem led någon brist, för alla som hade mark eller hus sålde sådant som de ägde och bar fram betalningen för det som sålts 35 *Jes 58:7. och lade ner det vid apostlarnas fötter. Och man delade ut åt var och en efter hans behov. 36 *Apg 11:22f. Även Josef, en levit född på Cypern som apostlarna kallade Barnabas*4:36BarnabasArameiska för "profetians son". Som profet (Apg 13:1) förmedlade Barnabas uppmuntran och tröst (jfr 1 Kor 14:3). (det betyder Tröstens son), 37 hade en åker. Han sålde den och bar fram pengarna och lade dem vid apostlarnas fötter.
