1 On that night, the king couldn’t sleep. He commanded the book of records of the chronicles to be brought, and they were read to the king. 2 It was found written that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s eunuchs, who were doorkeepers, who had tried to lay hands on the King Ahasuerus. 3 The king said, "What honor and dignity has been given to Mordecai for this?"

Then the king’s servants who attended him said, "Nothing has been done for him."

4 The king said, "Who is in the court?" Now Haman had come into the outer court of the king’s house, to speak to the king about hanging Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.

5 The king’s servants said to him, "Behold,*6:5 "Behold", from "הִנֵּה", means look at, take notice, observe, see, or gaze at. It is often used as an interjection. Haman stands in the court."

The king said, "Let him come in." 6 So Haman came in. The king said to him, "What shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honor?"

Now Haman said in his heart, "Who would the king delight to honor more than myself?" 7 Haman said to the king, "For the man whom the king delights to honor, 8 let royal clothing be brought which the king uses to wear, and the horse that the king rides on, and on the head of which a royal crown is set. 9 Let the clothing and the horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king’s most noble princes, that they may array the man whom the king delights to honor with them, and have him ride on horseback through the city square, and proclaim before him, ‘Thus it shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honor!’"

10 Then the king said to Haman, "Hurry and take the clothing and the horse, as you have said, and do this for Mordecai the Jew, who sits at the king’s gate. Let nothing fail of all that you have spoken."

11 Then Haman took the clothing and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and had him ride through the city square, and proclaimed before him, "Thus it shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honor!"

12 Mordecai came back to the king’s gate, but Haman hurried to his house, mourning and having his head covered. 13 Haman recounted to Zeresh his wife and all his friends everything that had happened to him. Then his wise men and Zeresh his wife said to him, "If Mordecai, before whom you have begun to fall, is of Jewish descent, you will not prevail against him, but you will surely fall before him." 14 While they were yet talking with him, the king’s eunuchs came, and hurried to bring Haman to the banquet that Esther had prepared.

Le-au citit înaintea împăratului 2 și s-a găsit scris ce descoperise Mardoheu cu privire la Bigtan și Tereș, cei doi fameni ai împăratului, păzitorii pragului, care voiseră să întindă mâna asupra împăratului Ahașveroș. 3 Împăratul a zis: „Ce cinste și mărire i s-a făcut lui Mardoheu pentru aceasta?" „Nu i s-a făcut nimic", au răspuns cei ce slujeau împăratului. 4 Atunci, împăratul a zis: „Cine este în curte?" (Haman venise în curtea de afară*Cap. 5:1. a casei împăratului să*Cap. 5:14. ceară împăratului să spânzure pe Mardoheu pe lemnul pe care-l pregătise pentru el.) 5 Slujitorii împăratului i-au răspuns: „Haman este în curte." Și împăratul a zis: „Să intre." 6 Haman a intrat și împăratul i-a zis: „Ce trebuie făcut pentru un om pe care vrea să-l cinstească împăratul?" Haman și-a zis în sine: „Pe cine altul decât pe mine ar vrea împăratul să-l cinstească?" 7 Și Haman a răspuns împăratului: „Omului pe care vrea împăratul să-l cinstească, 8 trebuie să i se aducă haina împărătească, aceea cu care se îmbracă împăratul, și calul*1 Împ. 1:33. pe care călărește împăratul și să i se pună cununa împărătească pe cap. 9 Să se dea haina și calul uneia din căpeteniile de seamă ale împăratului, apoi să îmbrace cu haina pe omul acela pe care vrea să-l cinstească împăratul, să-l plimbe călare pe cal prin locul deschis al cetății și să se strige*Gen. 41:43. înaintea lui: ‘Așa se face omului pe care vrea împăratul să-l cinstească!’" 10 Împăratul i-a zis lui Haman: „Ia îndată haina și calul, cum ai zis, și fă așa iudeului Mardoheu, care șade la poarta împăratului. Nu lăsa nefăcut nimic din ce ai spus." 11 Și Haman a luat haina și calul, a îmbrăcat pe Mardoheu, l-a plimbat călare pe cal prin locul deschis al cetății și a strigat înaintea lui: „Așa se face omului pe care vrea împăratul să-l cinstească!" 12 Mardoheu s-a întors la poarta împăratului, și Haman s-a dus în grabă*2 Cron. 26:20. acasă, mâhnit și*2 Sam. 15:30.Ier. 14:3,4. cu capul acoperit. 13 Haman a istorisit nevestei sale Zereș și tuturor prietenilor săi tot ce i se întâmplase. Și înțelepții lui și nevastă-sa Zereș i-au zis: „Dacă Mardoheu, înaintea căruia ai început să cazi, este din neamul iudeilor, nu vei putea face nimic împotriva lui, ci vei cădea înaintea lui." 14 Pe când îi vorbeau ei încă, au venit famenii împăratului și au luat îndată pe Haman la ospățul*Cap. 5:8. pe care-l pregătise Estera.
