1 "My spirit is consumed.

My days are extinct

and the grave is ready for me.

2 Surely there are mockers with me.

My eye dwells on their provocation.

3 "Now give a pledge. Be collateral for me with yourself.

Who is there who will strike hands with me?

4 For you have hidden their heart from understanding,

therefore you will not exalt them.

5 He who denounces his friends for plunder,

even the eyes of his children will fail.

6 "But he has made me a byword of the people.

They spit in my face.

7 My eye also is dim by reason of sorrow.

All my members are as a shadow.

8 Upright men will be astonished at this.

The innocent will stir himself up against the godless.

9 Yet the righteous will hold to his way.

He who has clean hands will grow stronger and stronger.

10 But as for you all, come back.

I will not find a wise man among you.

11 My days are past.

My plans are broken off,

as are the thoughts of my heart.

12 They change the night into day,

saying ‘The light is near’ in the presence of darkness.

13 If I look for Sheol*17:13 Sheol is the place of the dead. as my house,

if I have spread my couch in the darkness,

14 if I have said to corruption, ‘You are my father,’

and to the worm, ‘My mother,’ and ‘My sister,’

15 where then is my hope?

As for my hope, who will see it?

16 Shall it go down with me to the gates of Sheol,*17:16 Sheol is the place of the dead.

or descend together into the dust?"

1 Mi se pierde suflarea,

mi se sting zilele,

mă așteaptă mormântul*Ps. 88:3,4..

2 Sunt înconjurat de batjocoritori,

și ochiul meu trebuie să privească spre ocările*1 Sam. 1:6,7. lor.

3 Pune-Te singur zălog*Prov. 6:1;17:18;22:26. pentru mine înaintea Ta;

altfel, cine ar putea răspunde pentru mine?

4 Căci le-ai încuiat inima în fața priceperii.

De aceea nici nu-i vei lăsa să biruiască.

5 Cine dă pe prieteni să fie prădați,

copiilor aceluia li se vor topi ochii.

6 M-a făcut de basmul*Cap. 30:9. oamenilor

și ca unul pe care-l scuipi în față!

7 Ochiul*Ps. 6:7;31:9. mi se întunecă de durere;

toate mădularele mele sunt ca o umbră.

8 Oamenii fără prihană sunt înmărmuriți de aceasta,

și cel nevinovat se răscoală împotriva celui nelegiuit.

9 Cel fără prihană rămâne totuși tare pe calea lui,

cel cu mâinile*Ps. 24:4. curate se întărește tot mai mult.

10 Dar voi, toți, întoarceți-vă*Cap. 6:29.,

veniți iarăși cu cuvântările voastre,

și vă voi arăta că între voi niciunul nu e înțelept.

11 Ce! Mi s-au dus*Cap. 7:6;9:25. zilele,

mi s-au nimicit planurile,

planurile acelea făcute cu atâta iubire în inima mea…

12 Și ei mai spun că noaptea este zi,

că se apropie lumina, când întunericul a și venit!

13 Când Locuința morților o aștept ca locuință,

când în întuneric îmi voi înălța culcușul;

14 când strig gropii: ‘Tu ești tatăl meu!’

Și viermilor: ‘Voi sunteți mama și sora mea!’

15 Unde mai este atunci nădejdea mea?

Și cine mai poate vedea nădejdea mea?

16 Ea se va coborî*Cap. 18:13. cu mine la porțile Locuinței morților,

când vom merge împreună*17:16 Nădejdea mea și eu. să ne odihnim*Cap. 3:17-19. în țărână."
