1 Eis que reinará um rei com justiça, e dominarão os príncipes segundo o juízo.2 E será aquele homem como um esconderijo contra o vento, e um refúgio contra a tempestade, como ribeiros de águas em lugares secos, e como a sombra de uma grande rocha em terra sedenta.3 E os olhos dos que veem não olharão para trás; e os ouvidos dos que ouvem estarão atentos.4 E o coração dos imprudentes entenderá o conhecimento; e a língua dos gagos estará pronta para falar distintamente.5 Ao vil nunca mais se chamará liberal; e do avarento nunca mais se dirá que é generoso.6 Porque o vil fala obscenidade, e o seu coração pratica a iniquidade, para usar hipocrisia, e para proferir mentiras contra o Senhor, para deixar vazia a alma do faminto, e fazer com que o sedento venha a ter falta de bebida.7 Também todas as armas do avarento são más; ele maquina invenções malignas, para destruir os mansos com palavras falsas, mesmo quando o pobre chega a falar retamente.8 Mas o liberal projeta coisas liberais, e pela liberalidade está em pé.9 Levantai-vos, mulheres, que estais sossegadas, e ouvi a minha voz; e vós, filhas, que estais tão seguras, inclinai os ouvidos às minhas palavras.10 Porque num ano e dias vireis a ser turbadas, ó mulheres que estais tão seguras; porque a vindima se acabará, e a colheita não virá.11 Tremei, mulheres que estais sossegadas, e turbai-vos vós, que estais tão seguras; despi-vos, e ponde-vos nuas, e cingi com saco os vossos lombos.12 Baterão nos peitos, pelos campos desejáveis, e pelas vinhas frutíferas.13 Sobre a terra do meu povo virão espinheiros e sarças, como também sobre todas as casas onde há alegria, na cidade jubilosa.14 Porque os palácios serão abandonados, a multidão da cidade cessará; e as fortificações e as torres servirão de cavernas para sempre, para alegria dos jumentos monteses, e para pasto dos rebanhos;15 Até que se derrame sobre nós o Espírito lá do alto; então o deserto se tornará em campo fértil, e o campo fértil será reputado por um bosque.16 E o juízo habitará no deserto, e a justiça morará no campo fértil.17 E o efeito da justiça será paz, e a operação da justiça, repouso e segurança para sempre.18 E o meu povo habitará em morada de paz, e em moradas bem seguras, e em lugares quietos de descanso.19 Mas, descendo ao bosque, cairá saraiva e a cidade será inteiramente abatida.20 Bem-aventurados vós os que semeais junto a todas as águas; e deixais livres os pés do boi e do jumento.

1 Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in justice.2 And every one shall be as a hiding–place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivulets of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a large rock in a languishing land.3 And the eyes of those that see shall not be blinded again, and the ears of those that hear shall hearken.4 The heart also of the rash shall be attentive in order to know, and the tongue of the stammerers shall be ready to speak plainly.5 The worthless person shall be no more called liberal, and the avaricious man shall not be said to be bountiful.6 For the worthless person ever speaketh villany, and his heart will work injustice, to practise hypocrisy, and to speak error against the Lord, to leave empty the soul of the hungry, and the drink of the thirsty will he take away.7 The instruments also of the avaricious man are evil: he deviseth wicked resolves to destroy the poor with words of falsehood, even when the needy speaketh what is right.8 But the liberal deviseth liberal things; and he ever persisteth by liberal things.9 Ye careless women rise up, hear my voice; ye daughters that are secure, give ear unto my speech.10 After days and years shall ye shudder, ye women that are secure; for ended is the vintage, the fruit gathering shall nowise come.11 Tremble, ye careless women; shudder, ye that are secure, strip off your garments and make yourselves bare, and gird sackcloth upon the loins.12 They shall strike on the breast, lamenting, for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vine.13 Upon the soil of my people thorns and briers shall come up; yea, upon all the houses of joy of the gladsome town.14 Because the palace is abandoned, the tumult of the city is forsaken; the hill and watch–tower are become dens for a long time, a joyous haunt for wild asses, a pasture for flocks.15 Until a spirit be poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness be changed into a fruitful field, and the fruitful field be accounted as a forest.16 Then shall justice dwell in the wilderness, and righteousness abide in the fruitful field.17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and security for ever.18 And then shall my people abide in peaceful dwellings, and secure abodes, and in undisturbed resting–places.19 And it shall spread itself out in the declivity of the forest; and far down in the lowlands shall the city descend.20 Happy are ye that sow beside all waters, freely sending forth the feet of the ox and the ass.
