1 No ano em que morreu o rei Uzias, eu vi também ao Senhor assentado sobre um alto e sublime trono; e a cauda do seu manto enchia o templo.2 Serafins estavam por cima dele; cada um tinha seis asas; com duas cobriam os seus rostos, e com duas cobriam os seus pés, e com duas voavam.3 E clamavam uns aos outros, dizendo: Santo, Santo, Santo é o Senhor dos Exércitos; toda a terra está cheia da sua glória.4 E os umbrais das portas se moveram à voz do que clamava, e a casa se encheu de fumaça.5 Então disse eu: Ai de mim! Pois estou perdido; porque sou um homem de lábios impuros, e habito no meio de um povo de impuros lábios; os meus olhos viram o Rei, o Senhor dos Exércitos.6 Porém um dos serafins voou para mim, trazendo na sua mão uma brasa viva, que tirara do altar com uma tenaz;7 E com a brasa tocou a minha boca, e disse: Eis que isto tocou os teus lábios; e a tua iniquidade foi tirada, e expiado o teu pecado.8 Depois disto ouvi a voz do Senhor, que dizia: A quem enviarei, e quem há de ir por nós? Então disse eu: Eis-me aqui, envia-me a mim.9 Então disse ele: Vai, e dize a este povo: Ouvis, de fato, e não entendeis, e vedes, em verdade, mas não percebeis.10 Engorda o coração deste povo, e faze-lhe pesados os ouvidos, e fecha-lhe os olhos; para que ele não veja com os seus olhos, e não ouça com os seus ouvidos, nem entenda com o seu coração, nem se converta e seja sarado.11 Então disse eu: Até quando Senhor? E respondeu: Até que sejam desoladas as cidades e fiquem sem habitantes, e as casas sem moradores, e a terra seja de todo assolada.12 E o Senhor afaste dela os homens, e no meio da terra seja grande o desamparo.13 Porém ainda a décima parte ficará nela, e tornará a ser pastada; e como o carvalho, e como a azinheira, que depois de se desfolharem, ainda ficam firmes, assim a santa semente será a firmeza dela.

1 In the year of king ‘Uzziyahu’s death I saw the Lord sitting upon a high and exalted throne, and his train filled the temple.2 Seraphim were standing around him, each one had six wings; with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two did he fly.3 And one called unto the other, and said, Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory.4 And the posts of the threshold shook at the voice of those that called aloud, and the house was filled with smoke.5 And I said, Woe is me! for I am lost; because a man of unclean lips am I, and in the midst of a people of unclean lips do I dwell; for the King, the Lord of hosts have my eyes seen.6 Then flew unto me one of the seraphim, and in his hand was a live coal, with the tongs had he taken it from off the altar:7 And he touched therewith upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thy iniquity is departed, and thy sin is forgiven.8 And I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? And I said, Here am I: send me.9 And he said, Go, and say unto this people, Hear indeed, but understand not; and see indeed, but know not.10 Obdurate will remain the heart of this people, and their ears will be heavy, and their eyes will be shut: so that they will not see with their eyes, nor hear with their ears, nor their hearts be understanding, so that they be converted, and healing be granted them.11 And I said, How long, O Lord? And he said, Until that cities be left waste without an inhabitant, and houses without man, and the soil be made desolate as a wilderness,12 And the Lord will have removed far away the men, and the depopulation be great in the midst of the land.13 And should a tenth part thereof yet remain, it will again be swept away: yet like the terebinth and the oak, which, when they cast their leaves, retain their stems, so remaineth the holy seed, its stem.
