1 O Espírito do Senhor Deus está sobre mim; porque o Senhor me ungiu, para pregar boas novas aos mansos; enviou-me a restaurar os contritos de coração, a proclamar liberdade aos cativos, e a abertura de prisão aos presos;2 A apregoar o ano aceitável do Senhor e o dia da vingança do nosso Deus; a consolar todos os tristes;3 A ordenar acerca dos tristes de Sião que se lhes dê glória em vez de cinza, óleo de gozo em vez de tristeza, vestes de louvor em vez de espírito angustiado; a fim de que se chamem árvores de justiça, plantações do Senhor, para que ele seja glorificado.4 E edificarão os lugares antigamente assolados, e restaurarão os anteriormente destruídos, e renovarão as cidades assoladas, destruídas de geração em geração.5 E haverá estrangeiros, que apascentarão os vossos rebanhos; e estranhos serão os vossos lavradores e os vossos vinhateiros.6 Porém vós sereis chamados sacerdotes do Senhor, e vos chamarão ministros de nosso Deus; comereis a riqueza dos gentios, e na sua glória vos gloriareis.7 Em lugar da vossa vergonha tereis dupla honra; e em lugar da afronta exultareis na vossa parte; por isso na sua terra possuirão o dobro, e terão perpétua alegria.8 Porque eu, o Senhor, amo o juízo, odeio o que foi roubado oferecido em holocausto; portanto, firmarei em verdade a sua obra; e farei uma aliança eterna com eles.9 E a sua posteridade será conhecida entre os gentios, e os seus descendentes no meio dos povos; todos quantos os virem os conhecerão, como descendência bendita do Senhor.10 Regozijar-me-ei muito no Senhor, a minha alma se alegrará no meu Deus; porque me vestiu de roupas de salvação, cobriu-me com o manto de justiça, como um noivo se adorna com turbante sacerdotal, e como a noiva que se enfeita com as suas joias.11 Porque, como a terra produz os seus renovos, e como o jardim faz brotar o que nele se semeia, assim o Senhor Deus fará brotar a justiça e o louvor para todas as nações.

1 The Spirit of the Lord Eternal is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to announce good tidings unto the meek: he hath sent me to bind up the broken–hearted, to proclaim to captives Liberty, and to prisoners Release;2 To proclaim a year of favor of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all mourners;3 To grant unto the mourners of Zion,––to give unto them ornament in the place of ashes, oil of gladness in the place of mourning, garments of praise in the place of a grieved spirit; that they may be called, Oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.4 And they shall build up the ancient ruins, desolate places of former times shall they raise up, and they shall renew ruined cities, the desolate places of many generations.5 And strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, and the sons of the alien shall be your ploughmen and your vintners.6 But ye, ye shall be called, Priests of the Lord; Ministers of our God, shall be said unto you: the wealth of nations shall ye consume, and in their glory shall ye be placed as possessors.7 In the place of your twofold shame,––and the confusion of which they loudly complained as their portion: therefore in their land shall they possess a twofold portion; everlasting joy shall be granted unto them.8 For I the Lord love justice, I hate robbery with burnt–offering: therefore will I give them the recompense of their work in truth, and an everlasting covenant will I make with them.9 And among the nations shall their seed be known, and their offspring in the midst of the people: all that see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the seed whom the Lord hath blessed.10 I will be greatly glad in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, with the mantle of righteousness hath he enveloped me, as a bridegroom decketh himself with elegant attire, and as a bride adorneth herself with her bridal array.11 For, as the earth bringeth forth her growth, and as a garden causeth what is sown therein to spring forth: thus will the Lord Eternal cause righteousness and praise to spring forth in the presence of all the nations.
