1 Quem é este, que vem de Edom, de Bozra, com vestes tintas; este que é glorioso em sua vestidura, que marcha com a sua grande força? Eu, que falo em justiça, poderoso para salvar.2 Por que está vermelha a tua vestidura, e as tuas roupas como as daquele que pisa no lagar?3 Eu sozinho pisei no lagar, e dos povos ninguém houve comigo; e os pisei na minha ira, e os esmaguei no meu furor; e o seu sangue salpicou as minhas vestes, e manchei toda a minha vestidura.4 Porque o dia da vingança estava no meu coração; e o ano dos meus remidos é chegado.5 E olhei, e não havia quem me ajudasse; e admirei-me de não haver quem me sustivesse, por isso o meu braço me trouxe a salvação, e o meu furor me susteve.6 E atropelei os povos na minha ira, e os embriaguei no meu furor; e a sua força derrubei por terra.7 As benignidades do Senhor mencionarei, e os muitos louvores do Senhor, conforme tudo quanto o Senhor nos concedeu; e grande bondade para com a casa de Israel, que usou com eles segundo as suas misericórdias, e segundo a multidão das suas benignidades.8 Porque dizia: Certamente eles são meu povo, filhos que não mentirão; assim ele se fez o seu Salvador.9 Em toda a angústia deles ele foi angustiado, e o anjo da sua presença os salvou; pelo seu amor, e pela sua compaixão ele os remiu; e os tomou, e os conduziu todos os dias da antiguidade.10 Mas eles foram rebeldes, e contristaram o seu Espírito Santo; por isso se lhes tornou em inimigo, e ele mesmo pelejou contra eles.11 Todavia se lembrou dos dias da antiguidade, de Moisés, e do seu povo, dizendo: Onde está agora o que os fez subir do mar com os pastores do seu rebanho? Onde está o que pôs no meio deles o seu Espírito Santo?12 Aquele cujo braço glorioso ele fez andar à mão direita de Moisés, que fendeu as águas diante deles, para fazer para si um nome eterno?13 Aquele que os guiou pelos abismos, como o cavalo no deserto, de modo que nunca tropeçaram?14 Como o animal que desce ao vale, o Espírito do Senhor lhes deu descanso; assim guiaste ao teu povo, para te fazeres um nome glorioso.15 Atenta desde os céus, e olha desde a tua santa e gloriosa habitação. Onde estão o teu zelo e as tuas obras poderosas? A comoção das tuas entranhas, e das tuas misericórdias, detém-se para comigo?16 Mas tu és nosso Pai, ainda que Abraão não nos conhece, e Israel não nos reconhece; tu, ó Senhor, és nosso Pai; nosso Redentor desde a antiguidade é o teu nome.17 Por que, ó Senhor, nos fazes errar dos teus caminhos? Por que endureces o nosso coração, para que não te temamos? Volta, por amor dos teus servos, às tribos da tua herança.18 Só por um pouco de tempo o teu santo povo a possuiu; nossos adversários pisaram o teu santuário.19 Somos feitos como aqueles sobre quem tu nunca dominaste, e como os que nunca se chamaram pelo teu nome.

1 Who is this that cometh from Edom, dyed red in his garments from Bozrah? this––glorious in his apparel, moving along in the greatness of his strength? "I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save."2 Why is redness on thy apparel, and why are thy garments as of one that treadeth the wine–press?3 "I have trodden the vat alone, and of the nations there was no man with me; and I trod them down in my anger, and I trampled on them in my fury; and their blood was sprinkled on my garments, and all my raiments have I stained.4 For the day of vengeance was in my heart, and the year of my redeemed was come.5 And I looked, and there was no one to help, and I was astonished, and there was no one to support; and then my own arm aided me, and my fury––this it was that upheld me.6 And I stamped down nations in my anger, and I made them drunken with my fury, and brought down to the earth their victorious strength."7 The kindnesses of the Lord will I mention, the praises of the Lord, in accordance with all that the Lord hath bestowed on us, and the abundant goodness toward the house of Israel, which he hath bestowed on them according to his mercies, and the abundance of his kindnesses.8 And he said, Surely they are my people, children that will not lie; and he became to them a Saviour.9 In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them; in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bore them, and he carried them all the days of old.10 But they rebelled, and grieved his holy Spirit; and he changed himself to become their enemy, and he fought against them.11 Then remembered his people the ancient days of Moses, Where is he that brought them up out of the sea with the shepherd of his flock? where is he that put within him his holy Spirit?12 That displayed by the right hand of Moses his glorious arm; that divided the water before them, to make unto himself an everlasting name?13 That led them through the deeps, as a horse through the wilderness, that they should not stumble?14 As a beast goeth down into the valley, so did the spirit of the Lord bring them to rest; thus didst thou guide thy people, to make unto thyself a glorious name.15 Look down from heaven, and behold, from the habitation of thy holiness and of thy glory: where are thy zeal and thy mights, the yearning of thy bowels and of thy mercy which are now restrained from me?16 For thou art our father; for Abraham knoweth nothing of us, and Israel recogniseth us not: thou, O Lord, art our father, our Redeemer from everlasting is thy name.17 Why hast thou let us go astray, O Lord, from thy ways, suffered our heart to be hardened against thy fear? Return for the sake of thy servants, the tribes of thy heritage.18 But a brief space were thy holy people in possession, when our adversaries trod down thy sanctuary.19 We are become as though we are those over whom thou hast never ruled, over whom thy name hath not been called.
