1 Ouvi isto, casa de Jacó, que vos chamais do nome de Israel, e saístes das águas de Judá, que jurais pelo nome do Senhor, e fazeis menção do Deus de Israel, mas não em verdade nem em justiça.2 E até da santa cidade tomam o nome e se firmam sobre o Deus de Israel; o Senhor dos Exércitos é o seu nome.3 As primeiras coisas desde a antiguidade as anunciei; da minha boca saíram, e eu as fiz ouvir; apressadamente as fiz, e aconteceram.4 Porque eu sabia que eras duro, e a tua cerviz um nervo de ferro, e a tua testa de bronze.5 Por isso te anunciei desde então, e te fiz ouvir antes que acontecesse, para que não dissesses: O meu ídolo fez estas coisas, e a minha imagem de escultura, e a minha imagem de fundição as mandou.6 Já o tens ouvido; olha bem para tudo isto; porventura não o anunciareis? Desde agora te faço ouvir coisas novas e ocultas, e que nunca conheceste.7 Agora são criadas, e não de há muito, e antes deste dia não as ouviste, para que porventura não digas: Eis que eu já as sabia.8 Nem tu as ouviste, nem tu as conheceste, nem tampouco há muito foi aberto o teu ouvido, porque eu sabia que procederias muito perfidamente, e que eras chamado transgressor desde o ventre.9 Por amor do meu nome retardarei a minha ira, e por amor do meu louvor me refrearei para contigo, para que te não venha a cortar.10 Eis que já te purifiquei, mas não como a prata; escolhi-te na fornalha da aflição.11 Por amor de mim, por amor de mim o farei, porque, como seria profanado o meu nome? E a minha glória não a darei a outro.12 Dá-me ouvidos, ó Jacó, e tu, ó Israel, a quem chamei; eu sou o mesmo, eu o primeiro, eu também o último.13 Também a minha mão fundou a terra, e a minha destra mediu os céus a palmos; eu os chamarei, e aparecerão juntos.14 Ajuntai-vos todos vós, e ouvi: Quem, dentre eles, tem anunciado estas coisas? O Senhor o amou, e executará a sua vontade contra Babilônia, e o seu braço será contra os caldeus.15 Eu, eu o tenho falado; também já o chamei, e o trarei, e farei próspero o seu caminho.16 Chegai-vos a mim, ouvi isto: Não falei em segredo desde o princípio; desde o tempo em que aquilo se fez eu estava ali, e agora o Senhor Deus me enviou a mim, e o seu Espírito.17 Assim diz o Senhor, o teu Redentor, o Santo de Israel: Eu sou o Senhor teu Deus, que te ensina o que é útil, e te guia pelo caminho em que deves andar.18 Ah! Se tivesses dado ouvidos aos meus mandamentos, então seria a tua paz como o rio, e a tua justiça como as ondas do mar!19 Também a tua descendência seria como a areia, e os que procedem das tuas entranhas como os seus grãos; o seu nome nunca seria cortado nem destruído de diante de mim.20 Saí de Babilônia, fugi de entre os caldeus. E anunciai com voz de júbilo, fazei ouvir isso, e levai-o até ao fim da terra; dizei: O Senhor remiu a seu servo Jacó.21 E não tinham sede, quando os levava pelos desertos; fez-lhes correr água da rocha; fendeu a rocha, e as águas correram.22 Mas os ímpios não têm paz, diz o Senhor.

1 Hear ye this, O house of Jacob, who are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the spring of Judah, who swear by the name of the Lord, and make mention of the God of Israel,––not in truth, nor in righteousness.2 For of the holy city they call themselves, and upon the God of Israel they stay themselves,––The Lord of hosts is his name.3 The former things have I declared from the beginning; and out of my mouth went they forth, and I announced them: suddenly did I accomplish them, and they came to pass;4 Because I knew that thou art obstinate, that like an iron sinew is thy neck, and thy brow of copper;5 And I declared it to thee from the beginning; before yet it came to pass did I let thee hear it: lest thou should say, My idol hath done these things, and my graven image, and my molten image, have ordained them.6 Thou hast heard it; see it all now; and you––will you not declare it? I caused thee to hear new things, from this time, even hidden things which thou hadst not known.7 Now are they created, and not from the beginning; and before the day that I announced them thou heardest them not; lest thou shouldest say, Behold, I knew them.8 But neither hadst thou heard it; nor didst thou know; nor had in ancient times thy ear been opened; for I knew that thou wouldst deal very treacherously, and a transgressor wast thou called from thy birth.9 For the sake of my name will I defer my anger, and because of my praise will I restrain it toward thee, so that I may not cut thee off.10 Behold, I have refined thee, though not into silver: I have approved thee in the crucible of affliction.11 For my own sake will I do it: for how would my name be dishonored? and my glory will I not give unto another.12 Hearken unto me, O Jacob, and Israel, my called one; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last.13 My hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned out the heavens: I call unto them, they stand forward together.14 Assemble yourselves, all of you, and hear: Who among them hath told these things? He whom the Lord loveth, will do his pleasure on Babylon, and display his arm on the Chaldeans.15 I, even I, have spoken it, I have also called him: I have brought him, and he shall be prosperous on his way.16 Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; never from the beginning have I spoken in secret; from the time that it occurred, was I there. And now the Lord Eternal hath sent me, and his Spirit.17 Thus hath said the Lord, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, I am the Lord thy God who teach thee for thy profit, who lead thee by the way thou shouldst go.18 Oh that thou hadst but listened to my commandments! then would have been as a river thy peace, and thy prosperity as the waves of the sea:19 And then would have been as the sand thy seed, and the offspring of thy body like the pebbles of the sea–shore; yet shall his name not be cut off nor destroyed from before me.20 Go forth out of Babylon, flee away from the Chaldeans, with the voice of singing declare, announce this, carry it forth as far as the end of the earth; say, The Lord hath redeemed his servant Jacob.21 And they thirsted not when he led them through the deserts; waters out of the rock he let drop down for them: and he cleaved the rock, and the waters gushed out.22 There is no peace, saith the Lord, unto the wicked.
