1 Fret not yourself because of evildoers, neither be you envious against the workers of iniquity.

2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.

3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shall you dwell in the land, and truly you shall be fed.

4 Delight yourself also in the LORD: and he shall give you the desires of your heart.

5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

6 And he shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your judgment as the noonday.

7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not yourself because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked devices to pass.

8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not yourself in any wise to do evil.

9 For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait on the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.

10 For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yes, you shall diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.

11 But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

12 The wicked plots against the just, and gnashes on him with his teeth.

13 The LORD shall laugh at him: for he sees that his day is coming.

14 The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conversation.

15 Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.

16 A little that a righteous man has is better than the riches of many wicked.

17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the LORD upholds the righteous.

18 The LORD knows the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever.

19 They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.

20 But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the LORD shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away.

21 The wicked borrows, and pays not again: but the righteous shows mercy, and gives.

22 For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth; and they that be cursed of him shall be cut off.

23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delights in his way.

24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholds him with his hand.

25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

26 He is ever merciful, and lends; and his seed is blessed.

27 Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for ever more.

28 For the LORD loves judgment, and forsakes not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.

29 The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.

30 The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom, and his tongue talks of judgment.

31 The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.

32 The wicked watches the righteous, and seeks to slay him.

33 The LORD will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged.

34 Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt you to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, you shall see it.

35 I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree.

36 Yet he passed away, and, see, he was not: yes, I sought him, but he could not be found.

37 Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.

38 But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off.

39 But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: he is their strength in the time of trouble.

40 And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.

1 Salmo di Davide NON crucciarti per cagion de’ maligni; Non portare invidia a quelli che operano perversamente;

2 Perciocchè saran di subito ricisi come fieno, E si appasseranno come erbetta verde.

3 Confidati nel Signore, e fa’ bene; Tu abiterai nella terra, e vi pasturerai in confidanza.

4 E prendi il tuo diletto nel Signore, Ed egli ti darà le domande del tuo cuore.

5 Rimetti la tua via nel Signore; E confidati in lui, ed egli farà ciò che bisogna;

6 E produrrà fuori la tua giustizia, come la luce; E la tua dirittura, come il mezzodì

7 Attendi il Signore in silenzio; Non crucciarti per colui che prospera nella sua via, Per l’uomo che opera scelleratezza.

8 Rimanti dell’ira, e lascia il cruccio; Non isdegnarti, sì veramente, che tu venga a far male.

9 Perciocchè i maligni saranno sterminati; Ma coloro che sperano nel Signore possederanno la terra.

10 Fra breve spazio l’empio non sarà più; E se tu poni mente al suo luogo, egli non vi sarà più.

11 Ma i mansueti possederanno la terra, E gioiranno in gran pace.

12 L’empio fa delle macchinazioni contro al giusto, E digrigna i denti contro a lui.

13 Il Signore si riderà di lui; Perciocchè egli vede che il suo giorno viene.

14 Gli empi hanno tratta la spada, Ed hanno teso il loro arco, Per abbattere il povero afflitto ed il bisognoso; Per ammazzar quelli che camminano dirittamente.

15 La loro spada entrerà loro nel cuore, E gli archi loro saranno rotti.

16 Meglio vale il poco del giusto, Che l’abbondanza di molti empi.

17 Perciocchè le braccia degli empi saranno rotte; Ma il Signore sostiene i giusti.

18 Il Signore conosce i giorni degli uomini intieri; E la loro eredità sarà in eterno.

19 Essi non saran confusi nel tempo dell’avversità; E saranno saziati nel tempo della fame.

20 Ma gli empi periranno; Ed i nemici del Signore, come grasso d’agnelli, Saranno consumati, e andranno in fumo

21 L’empio prende in prestanza, e non rende; Ma il giusto largisce, e dona.

22 Perciocchè i benedetti dal Signore erederanno la terra; Ma i maledetti da lui saranno sterminati.

23 I passi dell’uomo, la cui via il Signore gradisce, Son da lui addirizzati.

24 Se cade, non è però atterrato; Perciocchè il Signore gli sostiene la mano.

25 Io sono stato fanciullo, e sono eziandio divenuto vecchio, E non ho veduto il giusto abbandonato, Nè la sua progenie accattare il pane.

26 Egli tuttodì dona e presta; E la sua progenie è in benedizione.

27 Ritratti dal male, e fa’ il bene; E tu sarai stanziato in eterno.

28 Perciocchè il Signore ama la dirittura, E non abbandonerà i suoi santi; Essi saranno conservati in eterno; Ma la progenie degli empi sarà sterminata.

29 I giusti erederanno la terra; Ed abiteranno in perpetuo sopra essa.

30 La bocca del giusto risuona sapienza, E la sua lingua pronunzia dirittura.

31 La Legge dell’Iddio suo è nel suo cuore; I suoi passi non vacilleranno.

32 L’empio spia il giusto, E cerca di ucciderlo.

33 Il Signore non glielo lascerà nelle mani, E non permetterà che sia condannato, quando sarà giudicato

34 Aspetta il Signore, e guarda la sua via, Ed egli t’innalzerà, acciocchè tu eredi la terra; Quando gli empi saranno sterminati, tu lo vedrai.

35 Io ho veduto l’empio possente, E che si distendeva come un verde lauro;

36 Ma egli è passato via; ed ecco, egli non è più; Ed io l’ho cercato, e non si è ritrovato.

37 Guarda l’integrità, e riguarda alla dirittura; Perciocchè vi è mercede per l’uomo di pace.

38 Ma i trasgressori saranno distrutti tutti quanti; Ogni mercede è ricisa agli empi.

39 Ma la salute de’ giusti è dal Signore; Egli è la lor fortezza nel tempo dell’afflizione;

40 Ed il Signore li aiuta e li libera; Li libera dagli empi, e li salva; Perciocchè hanno sperato in lui
