1 Hezekiah began to reign being twenty-five years old; and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem; and his mother’s name was Abijah, daughter of Zechariah. 2 And he did what was right in the sight of Jehovah, according to all that David his father had done. 3 He, in the first year of his reign, in the first month, opened the doors of the house of Jehovah, and repaired them. 4 And he brought in the priests and the Levites, and gathered them into the open place eastward; 5 and he said to them, Hear me, ye Levites: hallow yourselves now, and hallow the house of Jehovah the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of your fathers, and carry forth the filthiness out of the sanctuary. 6 For our fathers have transgressed, and done evil in the sight of Jehovah our God*GodHebrew: Elohim and have forsaken him and turned away their faces from the habitation of Jehovah, and have turned their backs. 7 Also they have shut up the doors of the porch, and put out the lamps, and have not burned incense nor offered up burnt-offerings in the sanctuary to the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of Israel. 8 Therefore the wrath of Jehovah has been upon Judah and Jerusalem, and he has delivered them to vexation, to desolation, and to hissing, as ye see with your eyes. 9 And behold, our fathers have fallen by the sword, and our sons and our daughters and our wives are in captivity for this. 10 Now it is in my heart to make a covenant with Jehovah the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of Israel, that his fierce anger may turn away from us. 11 My sons, be not now negligent; for Jehovah has chosen you to stand before him, to do service unto him, and to be his ministers and incense-burners.

12 Then the Levites rose up, Mahath the son of Amasai, and Joel the son of Azariah, of the sons of the Kohathites; and of the sons of Merari, Kish the son of Abdi, and Azariah the son of Jehalleleel; and of the Gershonites, Joah the son of Zimmah, and Eden the son of Joah; 13 and of the sons of Elizaphan, Shimri and Jeiel; and of the sons of Asaph, Zechariah and Mattaniah; 14 and of the sons of Heman, Jehiel and Shimei; and of the sons of Jeduthun, Shemaiah and Uzziel. 15 And they gathered their brethren, and hallowed themselves, and came, according to the commandment of the king by the words of Jehovah, to cleanse the house of Jehovah. 16 And the priests went into the inner part of the house of Jehovah to cleanse it, and carried forth all the uncleanness that they found in the temple of Jehovah, into the court of the house of Jehovah. And the Levites took it to carry it forth into the brook Kidron. 17 And they began on the first of the first month to hallow, and on the eighth day of the month they came to the porch of Jehovah; and they hallowed the house of Jehovah eight days; and on the sixteenth day of the first month they made an end. 18 And they went in to king Hezekiah, and said, We have cleansed all the house of Jehovah, and the altar of burnt-offering with all its vessels, and the table of the bread to be set in rows, and all its vessels; 19 and all the vessels that king Ahaz in his reign cast away in his transgression have we prepared and hallowed, and behold, they are before the altar of Jehovah.

20 And Hezekiah the king arose early, and gathered the princes of the city, and went up to the house of Jehovah. 21 And they brought seven bullocks, and seven rams, and seven lambs, and seven he-goats for a sin-offering for the kingdom, and for the sanctuary, and for Judah. And he commanded the priests the sons of Aaron to offer them upon the altar of Jehovah. 22 And they slaughtered the bullocks, and the priests received the blood, and sprinkled it on the altar; and they slaughtered the rams, and sprinkled the blood on the altar; and they slaughtered the lambs, and sprinkled the blood on the altar. 23 And they brought near the he-goats of the sin-offering before the king and the congregation; and they laid their hands upon them. 24 And the priests slaughtered them, and they made purification for sin with their blood upon the altar, to make an atonement for all Israel; because for all Israel, said the king, is the burnt-offering and the sin-offering. 25 And he set the Levites in the house of Jehovah with cymbals, with lutes, and with harps, according to the commandment of David, and of Gad the king’s seer, and of Nathan the prophet; for the commandment was of Jehovah through his prophets. 26 And the Levites stood with the instruments of David, and the priests with the trumpets. 27 And Hezekiah commanded to offer up the burnt-offering on the altar. And at the moment the burnt-offering began, the song of Jehovah began, and the trumpets, accompanied by the instruments of David king of Israel. 28 And all the congregation worshipped, and the singers sang, and the trumpeters sounded, all the time until the burnt-offering was finished. 29 And when they had ended offering the burnt-offering, the king and all that were present with him bowed themselves and worshipped. 30 And king Hezekiah and the princes commanded the Levites to sing praise to Jehovah with the words of David, and of Asaph the seer. And they sang praises with gladness, and bowed their heads and worshipped. 31 And Hezekiah answered and said, Now ye have consecrated yourselves to Jehovah, come near and bring sacrifices and thank-offerings into the house of the Lord. And the congregation brought in sacrifices and thank-offerings; and as many as were of a willing heart, burnt-offerings. 32 And the number of the burnt-offerings, which the congregation brought, was seventy bullocks, a hundred rams, two hundred lambs: all these were for a burnt-offering to Jehovah. 33 And the consecrated things were six hundred oxen and three thousand sheep. 34 Only the priests were too few, and they could not flay all the burnt-offerings; therefore their brethren the Levites helped them, until the work was ended, and until the priests had hallowed themselves; for the Levites were more upright in heart to hallow themselves than the priests. 35 And also the burnt-offerings were in abundance, with the fat of the peace-offerings, and with the drink-offerings for the burnt-offering. And the service of the house of Jehovah was set in order. 36 And Hezekiah rejoiced, and all the people, that God*GodHebrew: Elohim had prepared the people; for the thing was done suddenly.

L-au părăsit, și-au abătut privirile*Ier. 2:27.Ezec. 8:16. de la cortul Domnului și i-au întors spatele. 7 Au*Cap. 28:24. închis chiar ușile pridvorului și au stins candelele, și n-au adus Dumnezeului lui Israel nici tămâie, nici arderi-de-tot în Sfântul Locaș. 8 De aceea, mânia Domnului a fost*Cap. 24:18. peste Iuda și peste Ierusalim și i-a făcut de groază, de spaimă și de bătaie*1 Împ. 9:8.Ier. 18:16;19:8;25:9,18;29:18. de joc, cum vedeți cu ochii voștri. 9 Și din pricina aceasta au căzut părinții*Cap. 28:5,6,8,17. noștri uciși de sabie și fiii noștri, fiicele noastre și nevestele noastre sunt în robie. 10 Am de gând dar să fac legământ*Cap. 15:12. cu Domnul Dumnezeul lui Israel, pentru ca mânia Lui aprinsă să se abată de la noi. 11 Acum, fiilor, nu mai stați nepăsători, căci voi ați fost aleși*Num. 3:6;8:14;18:2,6. de Domnul ca să stați în slujbă înaintea Lui, să fiți slujitorii Lui și să-I aduceți tămâie." 12 Și leviții s-au sculat: Mahat, fiul lui Amasai, Ioel, fiul lui Azaria, din fiii chehatiților; și din fiii merariților: Chis, fiul lui Abdi, Azaria, fiul lui Iehaleleel; și din gherșoniți: Ioah, fiul lui Zima, Eden, fiul lui Ioah; 13 și din fiii lui Elițafan: Șimri și Ieiel; și din fiii lui Asaf: Zaharia și Matania; 14 și din fiii lui Heman: Iehiel și Șimei; și din fiii lui Iedutun: Șemaia și Uziel. 15 Au adunat pe frații lor și, după ce s-au*Vers. 5. sfințit, au venit să curățească*1 Cron. 23:28. și Casa Domnului, după porunca împăratului și după cuvintele Domnului. 16 Preoții au intrat înăuntrul Casei Domnului ca s-o curățească; au scos toate necurățiile pe care le-au găsit în Templul Domnului și le-au pus în curtea Casei Domnului, unde le-au adunat leviții ca să le ducă afară, în pârâul Chedron. 17 Au început aceste curățiri în ziua întâi a lunii întâi; în a opta zi a lunii, au intrat în pridvorul Domnului și opt zile au curățit Casa Domnului; în a șaisprezecea zi a lunii întâi, isprăviseră. 18 S-au dus apoi la împăratul Ezechia și au zis: „Am curățit toată Casa Domnului, altarul arderilor-de-tot cu toate uneltele lui și masa pâinilor pentru punerea înainte cu toate uneltele ei. 19 Am adus iarăși în bună stare și am curățit toate uneltele pe*Cap. 28:24. care le pângărise împăratul Ahaz în timpul domniei lui, când cu fărădelegile lui: sunt înaintea altarului Domnului."

20 Împăratul Ezechia s-a sculat dis-de-dimineață, a strâns pe mai-marii cetății și s-a suit la Casa Domnului. 21 Au adus șapte viței, șapte berbeci, șapte miei și șapte țapi ca jertfă de ispășire*Lev. 4:3,14. pentru împărăție, pentru Sfântul Locaș și pentru Iuda. Împăratul a poruncit preoților, fiii lui Aaron, să le aducă pe altarul Domnului. 22 Preoții au înjunghiat boii și au strâns sângele, pe care l-au stropit*Lev. 8:14,15,19,24.Evr. 9:21. pe altar; au înjunghiat berbecii și au stropit sângele pe altar; au înjunghiat mieii și au stropit sângele pe altar. 23 Au adus apoi țapii ispășitori înaintea împăratului și înaintea adunării, care și-au pus mâinile*Lev. 4:15,24. peste ei. 24 Preoții i-au înjunghiat și au turnat sângele la piciorul altarului, ca ispășire*Lev. 14:20. pentru păcatele întregului Israel, căci pentru tot Israelul poruncise împăratul să se aducă arderea-de-tot și jertfa de ispășire. 25 A pus*1 Cron. 16:4;25:6. pe leviți în Casa Domnului cu chimvale, alăute și harpe, după rânduiala*1 Cron. 23:5;25:1. Cap. 8:14. lui David, lui Gad*2 Sam. 24:11., văzătorul împăratului, și prorocului Natan, căci*Cap. 30:12. astfel era porunca Domnului dată prin prorocii Săi. 26 Leviții au luat loc cu instrumentele lui David*1 Cron. 23:5.Amos 6:5., și preoții, cu*Num. 10:8,10.1 Cron. 15:24;16:6. trâmbițele. 27 Ezechia a poruncit să aducă arderea-de-tot pe altar și, în clipa când a început arderea-de-tot, a început*Cap. 23:18. și cântarea Domnului, în sunetul trâmbițelor și instrumentelor lui David, împăratul lui Israel. 28 Toată adunarea s-a închinat, a cântat cântarea și a sunat din trâmbițe până s-a isprăvit arderea-de-tot. 29 Și, când au isprăvit de adus arderea-de-tot, împăratul*Cap. 20:18. și toți cei ce erau cu el au îngenuncheat și s-au închinat. 30 Apoi, împăratul Ezechia și căpeteniile au zis leviților să laude pe Domnul cu cuvintele lui David și ale prorocului Asaf. L-au lăudat cu bucurie și s-au plecat și s-au închinat. 31 Ezechia a luat atunci cuvântul și a zis: „Acum, după ce v-ați sfințit în slujba Domnului, apropiați-vă, aduceți dobitoacele pentru jertfă și aduceți jertfe de mulțumire la Casa Domnului!" Și adunarea a adus dobitoacele pentru jertfă și a adus jertfe*Lev. 7:12. de mulțumire și toți cei pe care-i îndemna inima au adus arderi-de-tot. 32 Numărul arderilor-de-tot aduse de adunare a fost de șaptezeci de boi, o sută de berbeci și două sute de miei; toate aceste vite au fost jertfite ca ardere-de-tot Domnului. 33 Și au mai închinat Domnului șase sute de boi și trei mii de oi. 34 Dar preoții erau în număr mic și n-au putut să despoaie toate arderile-de-tot; i-au ajutat frații*Cap. 35:11. lor, leviții, până s-a isprăvit lucrarea și până s-au sfințit și ceilalți preoți, căci*Cap. 30:3. leviții s-au sfințit mai degrabă decât preoții. 35 De altfel erau foarte multe arderi-de-tot, cu grăsimile*Lev. 3:16. jertfelor de mulțumire și cu jertfele*Num. 15:5,7,10. de băutură ale arderilor-de-tot. Astfel a fost așezată din nou slujba Casei Domnului. 36 Ezechia și tot poporul s-au bucurat că Dumnezeu făcuse pe popor cu voie bună, căci lucrul s-a făcut pe neașteptate.
